"Yeah, he seems really nice, I haven't seen him here any other time I've come so I think he's new." He looked through the menu slowly as well, though in his head he already knew what he was going to order. Pulled pork with extra curly fries, his usual whenever he came here.
Rowan looked through the menu biting her lip. She paused for a moment before looking up at Soren and signed slowly, "What would you recommend for me to get?"
Soren read her signs as best he could, shrugging and looking at the menu with a smile, "Do you have anything in particular that you like? Or things you know you don't want?" He was happy to help her, but he was for sure going to recommend the fries.
Rowan thought for a moment her hands pausing. She hadn't thought about it like that and ended up signing after a long bit of thought, "Anything with beef is fine. Chicken would be fine as well. And I want a bun."
"Maybe this?" He signed, tapping the simple grilled chicken sandwich and smiling, "Or a custom burger, those are good." Really anything here seemed good, and he had tried both of the options he showed her and they were amazing.
Rowan looked at the chicken sandwich and thought for a moment. She didn't know enough about the menu to confidently order a custom burger, so something preset would be best. Grinning, she signed back to Soren, "I think I'll get the sandwich."
He nodded and smiled, "It's really good, I promise." Soren signed along with his words, though he didn't know how to sign promise. The waiter boy came back with their drinks, still smiling nervously as he set them down in front of them and pulled out his notepad to take their order.
Rowan pulled out the menu and pointed to the item she wanted to order. She figured it would be faster than writing it down in the notebook. She showed the menu to the boy with a little peice of paper in her other hand, I would like this!
“Alright, a chicken sandwich and what kind of fries would you like with that? Curly, regular, or otherwise we offer onion rings?” The waiter asked, reading her sign and smiling. He wrote down her order and looked up at her again to see what her voice would be, not seeming bothered at all by the sign or pointing to the menu.
Rowan pulled her notebook out and jotted down her answer. She was grinning and figured Soren might order between her answers. But she was quick and showed the waiter her notebook, Regular fries please!
(Hey heads up I might not respond for a day, I gotta get my computer fixed and it’s hard to respond on my phone just wanted to tell you :) (plus I would’ve forgotten to respond otherwise and the rep probably would’ve ended and I don’t want that))
(Yeah no that's fine! I also would like this not to end.)
“Perfect, and for you?” He wrote down the rest of Rowan’s order and turned to Soren, smiling lightly.
“I’ll have the pulled pork, with curly fries please.” He ordered, folding up his menu and holding it out for the waiter to take. The boy nodded and wrote it down before taking both of the menus and tucking his notepad away.
“Alright, I’ll have both of those out as soon as they’re ready.”
Rowan nodded grinning. She kept her notebook out and turned to Rowan to sign to him again. Her hands paused for a moment as she tried to think of what to say, "Do you always order that when you come here?"
He tried to read what she was she was signing, but he didn’t understand everything. “I feel bad for not knowing what you’re signing right now, but do you think you could write it down and teach me?” Siren asked softly, smiling a little, “That way maybe I can get better at signing and we can communicate better.”
Rowan nodded and pulled out her notebook. She wrote down what she had said and pushed the notebook so he could see the writing. She thought and then pulled it back. She took another moment and drew the hand motions above the words so he would be able to associate the motion to the word, hopefully. She went and let him see it once more giving him a thumbs up.
His smile grew and he signed “thank you” before starting to repeat the hand motions above the words. “No, most of the time I pick something new, I just ordered they since it’s my favorite dish that I’ve tried from here.” Soren tried to memorize the motions, repeating them slowly before trying to put together a sentence of his own. “Do you like it here so far?”
Rowan grinned brightly as she saw Soren practicing. She was practically bouncing considering no one had ever tried to do this for her, ever. At least having almost no knowledge of her. She saw Soren's question her already huge smile growing, "Yeah! It's great!"
“I’m happy you like it.” He replied, both in talking and sign since he didn’t know all of the words. Seeing Rowan happy made him even happier, and she seemed overjoyed at his signing, meaning he must have been doing alright.
"So am I! Mind if I ask what do you do in your free time?" Rowan asked him ready to write it down if he didn't understand her signing. She was glad he wanted to learn signs, but she wanted to learn about him too. It was more a measure to calm herself down from leaping and kissing the guy. That was too fast, she knew that much.
He didn't understand all of the signs, but did get what she was trying to say. "I do a lot in my free time, I like to play guitar though, and be outside of I'm not reading books." Soren was careful not to bring up his magic, unsure of how Rowan viewed magic, "What about you?"
Rowan was glad he understood the signs. She thought for a moment before responding, "I like to read as well! I actually work part-time at a bookstore. Otherwise I do a bit of gardening. What's your favorite book genre?"
Soren smiled and nodded, picking out the words he knew and only not knowing what she was talking about with the gardening. "Anything fiction or action filled but if I'm being honest, I like the books that have a little romance in them." He admitted, signing along a little and feeling his cheeks heat up slightly. It wasn't something he openly told everyone, though for some reason he found himself telling Rowan like he had known her for years.
"I enjoy fantasy books, especially those with magic. And a healthy dose of romance is always good," Rowan responded seeing his slight blushed. She could tell he was embarrassed about the romance part, as most men were. She still had a grin on and went to grab her notebook so she could write if need be.
"What does this sign mean?" He asked, copying the fantasy sign and then the magic one. Soren was happy he was picking up on sign fast, but he felt embarrassed asking what some of them meant. Hearing that she worked at a bookstore made him smile a little and he wondered what she would think of his job as a mechanic as his green eye met hers.
Rowan looked into his eyes for a moment. Green staring at green before she. pulled her pen out and copied the words down. She had to take a moment to draw the signs before showing it to Soren, Fantasy. Magic.
“That makes sense.” He said, repeating the signs again before letting his hands fall to the table. “This is the most important question I’m going to ask you today.” Soren smiled and paused for a dramatic effect before asking, “What’s your favorite color?”
Rowan grinned and paused for a moment in thought. Signing colors was always a pain so instead she turned her head and pointed to the red bow in her hair. She signed with her other hand, "Red. And you?"
“I don’t know how to sign orange in sign language, but it’s orange.” He said, still grinning happily and leaning back on his chair as he waited for their food. “Any questions you’re dying to ask me? Or words you want to teach me in sign language?”
"Orange," Rowan signed for him. She grabbed the notebook and wrote it down for him as well. She thought for a moment before she signed slowly and carefully, "Jellyfish. Mind if I ask more personal questions? Or you could ask me your burning questions."
