Rook frowned at that. "Brainy, who exactly did you go to for help? Because any law-abiding citizen wouldn't have a problem with a judicial setting."

Jade rolled her eyes. ”It’s not all his fault.” she defended him. ”His father was abusive so he ended up in the foster system for a while and lashed out at the system. Minor juvie record.” she explained.

Rook sighed softly. "Brainwave…" She trailed off. "Just be careful with this guy, alright?"

”Relax, Rook. I trust him. Besides, he’s not the one I’m worried about.” Jade reminded her. ”I know what I’m doing. He actually gave me a few useful ideas about what happened when I was still recovering from the drug.”

Rook nodded a little. "Alright. Alright." She replied, studying Jade.

Jade was confident that she could trust Killian, though a little surprised by how much she trusted him. ”Like I said, I’ll ask him but I can't make any promises that he’ll agree to it.”

Rook nodded. "Yeah. Makes sense." She replied. "Just, like I said: be careful about him."

Jade smiled at her ally and placed a friendly hand on the shapeshifter’s shoulder. ”I’ll be careful.” she told her, despite being up to her neck with how much she honestly liked him. She was soo past careful now.

Rook examined her carefully. "Mm. You better be." She replied.

”When am I not?” Jade shrugged with an audible smirk. Damn, Killian was really rubbing off on her.

Rook raised an eyebrow. "Brainwave. Just be careful."

Jade rolled her eyes. ”Alright, now you sound like a broken record.” she said. ”I’ll be careful.”

Rook rolled her eyes right back. "I know." she replied. "And you better be."

”I will.” she said simply as she nodded. ”Heroes honor.”

"Good." Rook replied simply.

Jade almost chuckled, for some reason, but bit her lip to keep the sound from escaping. ”Was that all you wanted to talk about?” she asked, a little curious. ”Sorry for dumping all that Harbinger stuff on you.”

Rook shrugged a little. "I just wanted to catch up, see how you're doing." she replied.

”Ok.” Jade nodded, accepting the answer. ”Well, I’m a little better now that I’ve talked to you.” she admitted. ”And thanks for the tip about the crime trends.”

Rook nodded. "Alright." she replied. "And you're welcome."

Jade smiled a little and stretched her arms out. ”Well, since it's so quiet I think I’ll call it a night. Let me know if anything happens.”

Rook nodded. "Alright. See you." She replied, running a hand through her hair.

”See ya.” Jade nodded before mounting her bike and starting it up.

Rook nodded. "See you. Be careful, Brainy." She morphed into a bird again.

”Take care of yourself, Birdie.” Jade smiled back before quickly driving off to avoid Rook dive-bombing her.

Rook rolled her eyes, taking off into the air.

Jade almost chuckled at getting away with calling her that again but bit her lip to stifle it. She drove around the town in one last quick patrol before returning to the Den. Once there, she shut down a few things for the night and changed back into her civilian clothes, ready to head home. Though she hesitated at the computer for a moment before quickly typing in a search for the new gang patterns that Rook had mentioned.

It showed up a strange pattern. Of some of them seemingly working together to accomplish things they couldn't have on their own. Jailbreaks, for instance, freeing members that had been locked away for a long time.

Jade frowned thoughtfully at the screen. This was definitely strange. Some of these gangs never worked together… A couple of them were even rivals. The information about the jailbreaks was very worrisome. She pulled up the files on the recently escaped prisoners, hoping that one name wouldn't show up.

The one name did indeed show up. Henry Blackwood, listed as escaped only days ago.

”Damn it.” Jade swore and immediately picked up her phone, dialing Killian’s number. She needed to warn him.
