“She’s sick, apparently,” Dakota said, cutting their cousin off. They’d tried Aunt Heather. They’d tried everyone else. They closed their eyes and leaned back against their truck. They really were alone.

Before turning away I saw Silas slowly reach up to the thing’s bulging face, his long white fingers sliding over its needle like teeth before breaking one off with a loud crack.

“Who are you?” he asked flatly, noting how unnerved she was by him. It pleased him, which he allowed to show through his smirk that by some would be considered arrogant.
