Rook laughed. "Just wanted to catch up, Brainiac."
Rook laughed. "Just wanted to catch up, Brainiac."
Jade didn't laugh but let her shoulders shake in amusement at the nickname. ”Good to hear, birdie. For a moment, I thought you needed my help.” she teased.
Rook chuckled. "Me? Never." she replied, stretching languidly.
Jade’s shoulders shook again. ”So, what’s new with you?” she asked. Jade was almost always willing to help a fellow hero out but usually preferred going solo.
"Eh. Not much, really. I'm working on investigating some stuff." she shrugged.
Jade raised a brow. ”Investigating what?” she asked very intrigued. ”Are you sure you don't need any help?”
"Some villains that are behaving strangely. Nothing you need to worry about. Besides, you've got your hands full with Hex, from what I've heard."
”Where did you hear that?” she questioned, glad her helmet was hiding her blush. ”And strange how?”
She laughed a little. "Well. You realize I'm a bird, right? I see a lot of things. Besides, I heard about the bank."
”Ah. Of course, I know you're a bird.” Jade answered obviously. ”You’d better not be spying on me.” she warned teasingly. ”Now, how do you mean by ”acting strangely”? In what way?”
"I'm not, I'm not." She sighed. "Just…a lot more organization and stuff. I don't know. There are strange patterns emerging."
”Good.” Jade smirked a little before nodding thoughtfully. ”I’ll keep an eye out for that then and let you know if I find anything.” she assured. She hesitated briefly before asking another question. ”Any gangs related to this pattern you've noticed?”
Rook nodded a little. "Alright. And…yes, a few." She replied, running a hand through her wild red hair. "I'm not quite sure which ones, though."
Jade nodded. ”It’s ok. I was just wondering.” she shrugged. ”I can check which ones. Sorry, it was just something I was researching earlier. Guess it's still on my mind.” she explained, shaking her head slightly.
Rook nodded. "Why were you researching it?" She asked curiously.
Jade shrugged. ”When I don't have anything to work on, sometimes I look at cold cases.” she explained calmly. ”I found one about a missing woman and her husband was part of the Ten Cranes. So obviously he’s the natural suspect but it wasn't specified if she was killed or just disappeared.”
Rook nodded a little. "Yeah. The Ten Cranes are…a definite problem still." she replied. "Were there any witnesses you could talk to about that?"
Jade shrugged a little. "Just the husband and their son. But I doubt the husband would be very forthcoming with any information and something tells me the son won't want to talk about it either." she explained. "Honestly, I can't say I blame the guy. I wouldn't want to talk about a trauma like that myself and I don't really know if he knows much about what happened."
Rook nodded again. "Ah. That does make it difficult." she sighed. "Too bad you can't time-travel, right?"
Jade's shoulders shook. "Wouldn't that solve a lot of crimes." she said amused. "Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be using time travel anytime soon. Still too unpredictable and too many bugs."
She laughed, shaking her head. "Ah, right." she sighed. "I don't know how to help you, then. my skills aren't exactly good for cold cases."
”That’s alright, birdie.” Jade said with an audible smile as she placed a hand on the shapeshifter’s shoulder. ”Thanks for listening though.”
Rook rolled her eyes. "I'm not a birdie, Brainiac."
Jade’s shoulders trembled with silent laughter for a moment as she lifted her hands in surrender. ”A crow is a type of bird.” she replied, still grinning.
"Yes, I know." Rook grimaced at her.
Jade shrugged as though that proved her point and was therefore justified in using the nickname.
Rook rolled her dark eyes, tossing her head. "Really?"
Jade smiled wider under her helmet. ”Why not?” she asked, teasing a little.
Rook sighed. "I'm not a birdie"
Jade shook her head at the other's stubborn reluctance. ”Whatever.” she said, crossing her arms.
