Killian chuckled. "Sometimes, I guess."
Killian chuckled. "Sometimes, I guess."
”Oh, come on. You two sound like you've been doing that for years.” Sophie pointed out, not dropping the topic yet.
Killian shrugged a little. "I…guess we sort of have."
Jade chuckled a little. ”I don't know about years, but we have had an ongoing banter for quite a while.” she shrugged. ”It keeps things interesting.”
”Huh.” Sophie acknowledged. ”How did it start? Like who gave the first line?”
Killian shrugged. "Probably me." he said with a laugh.
”I think it was you.” Jade agreed, laughing with him. ”Before you ask, Soph, I don't remember what the line was.”
”Dang.” Sophie sighed in mock disappointment.
Killian laughed a little. He ate some more, looking between Sophie and Jade.
”Must’ve been a good line though if you guys are still bantering for this long after.” Sophie commented before taking another bite of her meal.
Jade just shrugged. ”Could have been.”
Killian chuckled. "Mm. I don't know." He replied with a shrug.
”It doesn't really matter anyway.” Jade pointed out. ”I see no end in sight for our little battle of wits.” she smirked at him.
Killian winked at her. "Of course." He replied with a laugh.
Jade chuckled at the wink but didn't comment.
Sophie raised a brow with a smirk at the last exchange between the couple. ”And how often do these ”little battles” end with flirting?”
Killian blinked. "Oh. Uhm. I don't know."
”Oh, please. Half of what he says sounds flirty anyway.” Jade shrugged. ”It doesn't mean anything. It's just banter.”
"How do you know it doesn't mean anything?" Killian challenged, arching an eyebrow at her.
Jade looked at him in confusion, not expecting the challenge. ”Well… I mean, you always seem to have some flirty one-liner for just about anyone you talk to…” she explained. ”Does it mean anything?” she asked hesitantly.
Killian shrugged slightly, unsure what to respond with. "Uhm. Do you, er, want it to?"
Jade blushed at the question. This took a turn she wasn't expecting. Where had this even come from in him? ”I… Uhhh…” she stammered. Did she? Yes. That thought was very clear but… Could they? She wasn't sure. ”Maybe.” she said softly. ”But you know it's not that easy.”
Sophie was silently celebrating that her friend had finally found someone but she wouldn't say anything to ruin the moment. She would wait to start teasing later.
Killian shrugged. "Yeah. You're… probably right." He replied softly.
”It would be nice if we could though…” Jade admitted, still blushing.
Sophie blinked in surprise and confusion. That was the closest thing she’d heard Jade come to an ”I love you” but she didn't understand what was keeping them arms length away from each other.
Killian shrugged slightly. "Yeah. But…it's not a good idea." He said softly.
”No. It's not.” Jade agreed just as softly as she looked down.
Sophie was beyond confused at this point.
Killian finished eating, and got up to put his plate in the sink.
Jade sighed and stared uncomfortably at her plate.
”Alright, will one of you please tell me what the hell is going on with you two?” Sophie said finally losing her patience. ”You act like the world will end if you acted on what you both are obviously feeling for each other.”
Killian sighed softly. "Uhm." He looked at Jade helplessly.
”I-It’s nothing you need to worry about, Soph.” Jade said calmly though she didn't look back up. ”It’s mostly work stuff.” she shrugged.
”You expect me to buy that, Juliet? Your Romeo is literally standing right there.” Sophie asked, throwing the nicknames to show how apparent she found their admirations were for each other.
"So…we're going to commit suicide over each other?" Killian arched an eyebrow. "That doesn't sound like something I'd do."
Jade gave a silent chuckle at Killian’s attempt to lighten the mood. ”No, we're not going to do that.” she said with a small smile. ”Sophie was making a bad joke.”
”Look, I’ve never heard of a job getting this much in the way of a relationship before, so are you going to tell me the truth?” Sophie almost glared.
Killian sighed softly. "Uhm. It's not…" he looked between Sophie and Jade, hesitating.
”That is the truth. Our work is a bit complicated when it comes to relationships in general. It's not just us.” Jade explained.
”What? Are you CIA and KGB in the Cold War or something?” Sophie retorted, still not convinced.
