“You see?” Wilhelm pointed out the mistake, careful to only sound constructive instead of critical. “I used to do the same thing.” He looked over the incomplete questions, tucking his pen behind his ear.
“You see?” Wilhelm pointed out the mistake, careful to only sound constructive instead of critical. “I used to do the same thing.” He looked over the incomplete questions, tucking his pen behind his ear.
Connor grumbled under his breath, and picked up his pencil, fixing the problem carefully. "Is tha' better?"
“Let me see.. yes, that’s right.” Wilhelm nodded, now gesturing to an unfinished question. “Is this the one you were stuck on?”
Connor nodded. "Yeah, 't is." he replied, looking at Wilhelm, then the paper.
“That one’s tough, I agree. I think that we should just skip it for now and come back at the end. How does that sound?” Wilhelm read over the next few problems.
Connor nodded. "Alright. Sounds good." he replied. He looked at Wilhelm again, letting out a soft, slow breath.
Wilhelm’s eyebrows were slightly furrowed in concentration, but overall he looked totally relaxed and in his element. “So, for this question. Here’s what you want to do..” Wilhelm walked to his bag, quickly pulling out a piece of scrap paper before returning. He jotted a couple things down, showing Connor the correct steps to get his answer.
Connor nodded a little bit, and slowly followed Wilhelm's instructions, trying to understand why Wilhelm was doing the process as he did.
“Do you understand?” Wilhelm looked up at Connor again, posture slightly hunched and head tilted. “I can explain again if you need me to.”
Connor shrugged a little bit. "I…sort of understand." he replied slowly, looking at Wilhelm. "AH guess?"
“Sort of?” Wilhelm glanced back down at his writings for a moment, trying to find a weak point in his explanation. It all made sense to him, of course, so that didn’t provide much help. “Which part isn’t clear?”
Connor shrugged a little bit. "Ah dinnae know, ah just…ah'm sorry. Ah just dinnae understand it."
“Don’t be sorry, Connor.” Wilhelm frowned slightly, lightly patting Connor’s shoulder. “Should I try to explain it differently?”
Connor nodded a little bit. "Yes please." He replied, glancing up at Wilhelm for a moment.
“Right. Give me a moment to figure out how to say this.” Wilhelm quieted for a few seconds, finally beginning to speak. He explained it in the simplest terms he could think of, still striving to be completely accurate in his words.
Connor bit his lips, listening to Wilhelm quietly. "Ah…think ah understand a bit better now." He said when Wilhelm was done. "Thank you."
“That’s better? Good.” Wilhelm nodded, straightening his back. “Now that you better know how to do this, how would you answer this question?” He tapped the next unfinished question, looking directly at Connor.
Connor frowned a little, thinking, then slowly gave an answer, looking at Wilhelm. "Is tha' right?" he asked cautiously, raising his eyebrows.
“It is, good job! Hopefully you’re getting the hang of this, but I don’t doubt that you will with time.” Wilhelm grinned, rolling the undone portion of his shirt between his fingers.
Connor shrugged a little bit. "Maybe ah will eventually." he replied. "An' maybe ah won't." he wrote down the answer on the paper, a red curl falling into his face.
Wilhelm watched him write, a concentrated expression still plastered onto his face. “Maybe so. Do you think you have the hang of this for now, or do you want me to keep helping for the next few questions?”
Connor shrugged. "Can yeh help out? Please? Unless yeh've go' yer own work ta do, anyways." he said, swallowing and looking at the homework.
“No, I don’t. I can help, sure.” Wilhelm nodded, readjusting his posture to get a little more comfortable.
Connor nodded. "Alright…" he trailed off, and looked at the next problem. "So…how do ah do this one?" he asked.
“Well, let’s think about it this way.” Wilhelm began to rattle off the best way to solve a problem like that one, before stopping himself. “Ah, let me rephrase.” He started again, this time in more easily understood terms. “Does that make sense?”
Connor nodded a little bit, listening carefully. "Yeah. It does." he carefully worked out the question, and then showed what he had done to Wilhelm. "How's this?" he asked curiously.
(I gtg soon)
“You’ve got it, yes.” Wilhelm smiled softly, a proud gleam in his eyes. “Do you think you have the next one? Let’s look over it..” He trailed off, reading the question.
(alright!)
Connor smiled, and read the next question. "Ah think ah can do this one." he said slowly. He wrote out the answer, then showed it to Wilhelm. "Is this it?"
“Let me see.” Wilhelm took the paper, reading it carefully. “Yes, you’re correct. I think you might have a better grasp on this than you give yourself credit for, you know.” Wilhelm’s voice was gentle and soft once more as he gave back the paper.
Connor smiled happily. "Thanks! An' ah seriously doubt that, bu'…" He shrugged, and looked at the next problem. "Ah'm no' great at biology. Or maths. Which is nae a great combination."
