Wilhelm frowned and winced slightly at the description. “That’s horrible, Oliver. I’m sorry.” He ran his fingers through his hair, trying to avoid picking at his knuckles again. “How long ago did it happen?”
Wilhelm frowned and winced slightly at the description. “That’s horrible, Oliver. I’m sorry.” He ran his fingers through his hair, trying to avoid picking at his knuckles again. “How long ago did it happen?”
Oliver shrugged a little. "Last year. I used to play soccer, and I was on the swim team. Obviously I can't do those anymore." his mouth twisted in a bitter smile.
Connor winced. "Ouch. I'm so sorry, ah did nae mean ta bring up bad memories."
Wilhelm bit his tongue. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have asked.” He drummed his fingers on the table, looking out the window.
Oliver shook his head. "No, it's fine." he replied. "I'm used to people being curious by now."
Connor looked between the two for a moment, and took another sip of tea. "Still. That must be awful."
“Alright.” Wilhelm nodded in both agreement and acknowledgement of Connor’s words, taking a sip of his water and looking at the doors momentarily. He fidgeted with his hands, nearly digging his nails into his knuckles before stopping himself.
Oliver's name was called by a group of loud, rather obnoxious boys, and he sighed, hauling himself to his feet. "I'll see you tomorrow, Connor." he said. He waved a little as he limped away, leaning on his cane.
Connor waved back. "See yeh." he echoed.
Wilhelm waved a bit to Oliver, leaning forward on his arms. “Nice kid. Surprised I haven’t seen him around.”
"He said he had ta take last year off because o' his leg, because he was bedridden for a long time, and was in an' out o' the hospital." Connor replied. "He told me about tha' in science, but hadn't told me how his leg go' damaged."
“Poor man. That sounds so painful.” Wilhelm grimaced. He finally finished his food, shaking his head. He rolled his shoulders back, clasping his hands behind his neck.
Connor nodded. "Yeah, it does." he agreed softly, running a hand through his hair. He had already finished, having scarfed his food down rather quickly.
“You started a new book, right? What is it?” Wilhelm tilted his head, trying to switch the conversation topic the best that he could.
"Oh, yeah, ah did." Connor replied. "It's uhm…actually more of a kids book. It's called Doctor Dolittle. He can, uh…talk to animals." he laughed a little bit.
“Oh? Huh.” Wilhelm tilted his head, smiling. “Is it any good?”
Connor shrugged a little bit. "Oh. Yeah, ah guess so." he replied with a smile.
Wilhelm stretched his arms above his head, sighing just a bit. “I need to get back into reading fiction. I haven’t read anything fiction for fun in ages, it’s mostly just historical and gardening books.”
"Ah can recommend you some, if yeh like." Connor replied, taking a sip of his tea and looking at Wilhelm.
“Would you? When you have time, of course.” Wilhelm added quickly. “Make sure you finish your science homework first.” His tone was teasing as he talked, a small, lopsided smile on his face.
"Yeah, sure." Connor wrinkled his nose at Wilhelm. "But ah don't wanna do my science homework!" he whined, cocking his head to the side.
“I don’t know what to tell you, buddy, you’ve simply got to keep those grades up.” Wilhelm said matter-of-factly, although his tone was far from serious.
Connor let out a soft whine, looking at Wilhelm. "Bu' ah dinnae wanna!" he complained.
“You’ve got to, Connor!” Wilhelm shrugged simply, throwing his hands up in a “not my problem” manner. “I don’t make the rules!”
Connor let out a loud, dramatic sigh. "But ah don't want to!" he insisted.
“Well geez, I don’t know what to say! I can’t believe anyone wouldn’t want to spend their evenings doing work!” Wilhelm scoffed in faux-distaste. “I’m shocked, truly.”
(I gtg to bed now. this will be my last reply)
Connor rolled his eyes, shaking his head a little. "Shocked, are you?" he replied with a laugh.
(gn!)
“Absolutely baffled.” Wilhelm smiled gently, running his fingers through his hair.
Connor stretched a little bit. "Good." He replied. "I like an air of mystery." He winked, laughing.
Wilhelm raised his eyebrows. “Oh, you do, do you? I’ll keep that in mind.” He took another sip of his water, ignoring the way his heart skipped a beat as Connor winked at him. “Ah, but in all seriousness, you should get your work done. Not that I don’t think you will, of course.” He added, fixing his posture.
Connor grimaced. "Ah'll do it, ah'll do it." He replied, leaning his head on the table. "Bu' ah will nae do it cheerfully."
“I wouldn’t either. Science is one of my favorite classes, and even I hate doing work for that teacher.” Wilhelm shrugged.
Connor grimaced. "Ah hate science, are yeh kiddin' me? This teacher is jus' th' icing on top o' the cake."
