“I’ve taken spanish 1 like 5 different times,” she explains. “Plus Italians practically my first language and they are close enough that I catch on pretty quick.”
“I’ve taken spanish 1 like 5 different times,” she explains. “Plus Italians practically my first language and they are close enough that I catch on pretty quick.”
"Then why not take Spanish 2 or 3 or maybe not take it at all?" Lotus asked. They understood transferring, but that didn't mean retaking the same class over and over.
“A foreign language is a required course and they won’t let me take a higher level because I never actually finished any of the classes or I technically failed them,” she explains. “I won’t take a different language because like why not just get the easy A?”
"Yeah, I guess," Lot responded with a shrug, "But at this point you could definitely argue that you could at least take Spanish 2."
Ava shrugged. “ probably.” She’s never met anyone who actually cared about all of this. “Anyway did you blow anything up in science?”
"No," Lotus sighed, "Luckily. I've got teacher permission to skip labs and stuff so no risk."
Cat smiled. “Awe man if there’s a big fire then we get out of school for at least the day,” she joked.
"Yes," Lotus conceded slightly, "But I would be ostracized further."
Cat shrugged. “Worth it,” she said smirking. “Then again I once got expelled for accidentally starting a fire. So maybe it’s not.”
"You've been expelled before?" Lotus asked her with a raised eyebrow.
Cat shrugged. “Yeah I might be one of the courses for my family moving a lot,” she admits. “But I haven’t been kicked out of too many schools. Just like 3.” She had to think for a second and yeah technically she was only kicked out of 3 schools.
"Damn," Lot responded their voice dipping and then going up again, "Mind if I ask how? Besides the fire one."
“The other too where fights. I don’t do that anymore though. Last time I was expelled was 8th grade,” she explained biting the inside of her cheek. It felt weird telling the truth.
"Considering middle school is a hellscape," Lot responded slight venom lacing their voice, "I honestly don't blame you."
She nodded. “Yeah it was pretty bad,” she agreed. Her leg started bouncing.
Lotus let out a long sigh as they closed their eyes. They opened them back up, "Yeah. Sorry about that, middle school was rough for me."
Cat shook. “it’s fine I get it,” she said. “If you Umm don’t mind me asking. Why did you used to move a lot?”
"Mostly because my parent's jobs moved them around a lot," Lotus responded tapping on the computer tables in front of them. Of course, there were those times you were the reason, the little voice in their head reminded them once more. They shook it off mentally, "Why do you ask?"
Cat shrugged. “I was just wondering. I never really met anyone that moved around a lot besides me,” she said. and all the other foster kids
"Ah, okay," Lotus responded with a little shrug. They didn't hesitate as they asked Cat, "Why did you move around a lot?"
Cat thought for a second. She half wanted to tell Lotus the truth but if word got out it would reveal that she’d been lying to everyone. It wasn’t that bad and Lotus would probably not care… “Can i tell you something that you can’t tell anyone?” She asked biting her lip.
"I, sure," Lotus blinked a few times not expecting that answer. They thought for a moment, "You don't have to though."
“I Umm its ok. I’m in foster care and I usually don’t like people knowing,” she admits. It felt good to tell her. “I love around a lot because I have shit luck with homes.” and when you find a good one you screw it up.
"Oh," Lotus blinked again. They hadn't been expecting that either, but it made complete sense, "I, uh, want me to tell you something then?"
“If you want. You don’t have to though,” she said smiling softly. She wanted her too. Wanted to get to know Lotus more.
"I, god this is difficult," Lotus muttered to themselves before they took a breath in and out, "I'm, uh, autistic and, um, identify as agender?"
Cat paused for a moment thinking. She wasnt expecting that. "Agender that cool. Is that sort of like nonbinary? Do you go by they/them pronouns?" She asked slightly proud of herself for remembering the terminology but also hoping she didnt just ask a stupid or too many questions.
"Yeah," Lot let out a breath they didn't know they were holding, "Exactly like that. I, uh, was expecting stupider questions to be honest."
Cat shrugged. “Not all of my homes where full of assholes. There was this lesbian soulmates that mainly took in queer kids. I learned a lot,” she admitted.
“That’s good,” Lotus smiled a little at her, “Glad someone out there cares.”
