"Mainly Sundays since the restaurant isn't open on Sundays. I work almost every other day," She explained. Her hand tapping away at the table again. "You don't really have to do that though. I'm not failing to the point where I'm not going to graduate."
"Yes, well," Lotus thought for a moment, "What do you want to do once you graduate? Because depending on what that is you'll need good grades."
Cat shrugged again. "I don't really have a plan. I haven't applied to any colleges and I already have a job so I guess I can just stay with that," She admitted.
"Oh," Lotus said deflating a little before forcing themselves to perk up again, "Where do you work?"
"DeMaino's on broadway," She said. "I'm a waitress but sometimes I wash dishes or help cook." Her hand was tapping again.
"Oh, nice," Lotus responded really unsure of how to respond to that. And the tapping started up again, "Is it a decent place to work?"
"Yeah tips are good and the cooks always give me free food," She said. "Have you ever had a job?"
"Not a conventional one no," Lotus responded rubbing at her forearm, "According to tax forms I'm under freelancer."
She nodded. "All of my jobs have been under the table. Not very legal but a lot easier for me." She admitted smiling.
Lotus didn't want to look stupid so they didn't admit that they didn't know what under the table meant. They would have to ask Myrah when they got back home, "Okay."
"So freelancer? does that mean you program for other people?" She asked tilting her head. Her hand stopped tapping and she crossed her legs.
"Yeah," Lotus nodded along glad they were on a topic she could follow along with, "I get emails from businesses asking for help making a website typically. Sometimes I get requests for apps. And the rare, but fun ones are those asking me to check over there own programs. It took me a bit, but I built up a decent enough reputation that I make a couple hundred from one commission at this point. Not the best I could do, but at least it's something."
Cat nodded. "that sounds awesome! You get paid that much to do something you love," she said looking at Lotus. her palm was face down on the table.
"Um, yeah," Lotus blinked a few times. They hadn't been expecting that "I guess I do."
"You do like it right? You seem happy when you talk about programming and stuff," She said smiling softly. She leaned on the table. making herself not even an inch closer to Lotus.
"I love it," Lotus responded with a little grin. They honestly couldn't see themselves doing anything else in reality.
Cat nodded. "Good because it sounds like you're really good at it!" She said smiling at her. She was practically on the edge of her seat. her phone was face up on the table. It vibrated and turned on showing a text from 'dick'. she glanced at it but then flipped her phone over.
Lotus grinned back and could feel the phone vibration along with hear it. Most of the minor overload and gone by, "I guess I am. Never really considered myself all that great, but if you say so."
Cat smiled at that. "I'm going to have to go soon but I'll see you tomorrow?" she asked. she didnt really want to leave. One of her hands were on her phone. she whent to stand up.
"Um, yeah," Lotus nodded as they stood as well. They shoved their hands into their pockets and gave her a little grin, "See ya tomorrow."
Cat nodded as she stood up. "Like I said umm see you tomorrow." Cat waved. She saw Sam walk over to them. She picked up her backpack. she always ha her backpack.
Lotus gave her a wave and let out a sigh. they ran a hand through their hair and left the library hoping to make it home in time for supper. That was productive to say the least.
Cat left with Sam. When she got home she quickly did all of her homework. She'd have to go to all of her classes tomorrow. Now that she didn't want to get kicked out of school.
Lotus made it home and got started on the homework they got from school before getting called for dinner. Myrah had begun her bombardment of questions which started of course with "Can you see color now?"
"No, no I can't," Lotus responded and the questions continued.
Until Myrah finally asked, "Did you tell her your touch imprint is on your-"
"I'm going to my room," Lot stood up and walked away from the table at that point. They couldn't handle that anymore.
Cat came to school the next day excited for English for the first time since middle school. She got to class a few minutes early.
Lotus hadn’t broken their schedule though to say maybe everything was moved a few minutes up wouldn’t be that bad. They arrived in the English class and put their stuff down at their desk. They spotted Cat and gave her a quick smile. It’s what friends did according to Myrah.
Cat sat down close to Lotus but not close enough for there to be any accidental bumping. She glanced at Lotus and smiled back. She took out her notebook and pencil.
Lot took out their own supplies as well. They hadn’t expected Cat to move, but it was fine with them. They glanced over and asked, “How was the rest of the day yesterday?”
“It was fine how about you?” she asked opening up her notebook to a fresh page. She didn’t draw yesterday so both there hands should be unmarked.
"Okay," Lotus responded flipping past the pages of pokemon and video games. They opened up to a fresh page and left it there, "It could've been better. Could've been worse."
