When my parents got my clarinet last year, it came with a box of super old 3 1/2, and I died trying to make a sound. Now I have a 1 1/2 and I've given up trying to learn. Still can barely make a sound

Your reeds placement is crucial.

I think it's right, it's just a different kind of air than flute. It's a lot harder

Do you curl your bottom lip? It helps a LOT

As an OG clarinootist, I have some advice.

I have a special flute it's like 4 inches longer, and has 2 extra keys. I can go all the way up to a third octave E flat, and first octave, below that already really low C, to A flat. It adds like 4 extra notes.

SPutters You have a B flat Foot joint! I want one so badly, does it make the upper register more difficult to hit?

Nah. It makes alternate fingerings easier, and the higher octave comes out a little bit easier, but it's still rough.
