"Mm… not hungry." Lucas shuffled a little closer to Nick. "Who are you?" He asked, glancing up at the newcomer weakly.
"Mm… not hungry." Lucas shuffled a little closer to Nick. "Who are you?" He asked, glancing up at the newcomer weakly.
“I’m Nick’s brother, Devin. You can call me Dev if you want. I came as soon as they called, what did they say?” Devin asked, walking over to the other side of Nick.
"Um… they said he's… h-he's gonna be in a coma for a few weeks…" Lucas closed his eyes, starting to tremble again as his face grew paler.
He nodded slowly. “So, how do you know my brother?” He asked notice his shaking.
Lucas hesitated for a few seconds, not sure how accepting Nick's brother was of the LGBTQ+ community or if he even knew that Nick was into guys. "Uh… technically speaking, we're… um… dating…?" He said weakly, keeping his eyes closed.
Devin nodded. “Don’t break his heart alright?” He smiled. “Also…” Devin put his hand on Lucas’s. “Why are you shaking so much?”
"Um… I… I'm scared? I dunno… sometimes I just do that. I'm sure it's a mixture of a few different things." Lucas seemed relieved that Devin was okay with him dating Nick, but he didn't look much reassured in general.
“Well, don’t let Nick go. He’s a special one. When we wakes up don’t tell him o was here. He doesn’t like me very much. I can understand why but still…” he sighed.
Lucas nodded. "I can honor that… I… I suppose it was nice meeting you, though I wish it was under better circumstances."
“Me too. How about tomorrow after school I can pick you up and come here? It’s alright if you don’t want to. I’m staying in town until Nick has fully recovered and something tells me you live with him, he drives because you can’t,” Devin smiled.
Lucas blushed a bit in embarrassment, knowing Devin was right. "That… that sounds fine to me… see you then, I guess."
“Awesome, see you.” Devin got up from his chair and walked out the hospital door.
Lucas sighed softly and huddled up to Nick again. It took him a long while, but he finally fell asleep. He awoke early the next morning.
A nurse came in the room and put food on the bedside table. “Good morning!”
"Morning, ma'am…" Lucas said weakly, eyeing the food with little interest. He watched her pick up the older untouched tray of food. He still had Nick's arm wrapped around himself, and he really didn't want to move.
The Nurse picked up a needle from the other tray that she brought in. She moved to the other side of Nick and took his arm. “You can close your eyes if you want.
Lucas nodded and closed his eyes. Blood didn't bother him, but he really didn't want to watch the nurse hurt Nick. "Do you know what time it is, ma'am?"
“7:20, what time do you have to go to school?” She asked switching out the needles when the got full. Once she was done she put the main needle back in that gave him water.
He sighed. "…7:30." He clung tighter to Nick, really not wanting to leave him. School was going to be a nightmare. All he could hope was that the school nurse had actually gone to the principal so that most of his bullies would be suspended.
“You know you have to go right?” She put the blood in the tray. “They’re going to make you either way.”
"I know, I-I know… and I'm not usually one to skip, but… I really don't wanna go…" He replied quietly, briefly glancing up at Nick's face.
“I’m not one for speaking in other people’s places, but I know that Nick wouldn’t want you to miss school. He comes here a lot for checkups on you and him. Every time I suggest pulling you out of school he says, ‘No, he needs school, he might not know it but he does. Even though he gets bullied. Don’t take him out. I promise I’ll take care of him’. He’s a piece if work…” the nurse shook her head. “I’ll be going.”
Lucas sighed again, taking another couple of minutes before he reluctantly got up. He started trembling as soon as he was apart from Nick, but he forced himself to keep walking. He left the building and walked out into the rain. Sighing in defeat, he began to run to school.
The teacher was taking attendance and Lucas still wasn’t there by the time he called his name. “Lucas!” He called looking around.
When Lucas arrived at school, instead of going to class, he went straight to the nurse and settled himself down in the corner. He was shaking and pale, and generally seemed unstable. He really didn't feel comfortable being here.
“Lucas, are you okay? How’s Nick?” The Nurse kneeled down stroking his head.
"H-He's in a coma…" Lucas said weakly, burying his face in his arms as he shook. "I… I don't want to be here… I don't want to skip, but… I-I don't know if I can get through the day like this…"
(I’m giving this nurse a name)
She froze. “He’s in a coma.” She whispered. Nurse Joy put her hand over her mouth. “Okay, is there some one that can give you notes?”
(Eyyy nice)
Lucas shrugged. "L-Like… a parent, or a doctor?" He asked, his voice muffled and shaky.
(XD)
She shook her head. “Like a student. Teachers can’t hand you notes, that would be like cheating on a test. So?”
