Nyx sat up when the train was gone, blinking. "Hm." He let out a breath. "Well. That was… certainly interesting." He let out a laugh, looking over at Jude with a happy, wide smile.
"I know." Jude laughed, "It happened by accident the first time I did it. I fell asleep and thought I was being run over when I woke up." He smiled at Nyx's smile like he always did, like it was a chain reaction and he couldn't and didn't want to stop. It was addicting, he felt, to see Nyx happy. They only problem was that addiction was a bad thing for him.
Nyx liked Jude's smile, he realized suddenly. He liked the way the other boy's mouth curled up at the edges, then finally split to reveal his teeth in a quick, almost shy smile. He ran a hand through his hair, laughing at Jude's words. "I see." He replied, chuckling a little.
"Yeah…" Jude said, fiddling with his sleeve and looking at the ground shyly, "So, what do you think?"
The sun was drifting east now, the sky turning from pale blue to the haziest of purples, turning everything Jude saw rose-coloured.
"It's beautiful." Nyx replied slowly, eyes scanning the horizon still. "It really, really is." he bit his lip a little bit and pushed away the memory of that kiss. No. He needed to focus on the here and now.
“Yeah?” Jude smiled, thinking about how Nyx was more beautiful than anything he’d seen before, like he’d told him when they’d first met. How he wanted to tell him, again and again that he was so fascinating, and that he could look at him for hours. Maybe he’d know if Jude kissed him again— longer this time. But Jude wouldn’t do that. He’d was already toeing the line of longing, and he wouldn’t cross it unless invited.
He bobbed his head in a nod, and stood, looking around still as if he couldn't get enough of it. As if his eyes were devouring the landscape and eating it the same as anyone else would eat food.
"Hey, let's go back to the field," Jude suggested, looking to the oncoming sunset and wanting almost desperately to bury himself in the cool grass. Maybe they could watch the sunset together. It would be Nyx's first, and Jude really wanted to see his smile when the sun would sink down, and colours would fly across the clouds.
Nyx blinked. "Hm? Oh. Alright." He came over to Jude, smiling still. He didn't think he could have stopped even if he wanted to. He bounced on his heels a little.
Jude walked slowly to the left, where he knew that the grass grew longest, and made something like a cowlick when he sank into the cool grass. His smile was small but everpresent now as the tallgrass softly crunched beneath his shoes and his hair hung over his face. "What do you think you're gonna do…once we're done fixin' you up?" Jude asked, his smile faltering a little.
Nyx sat down beside him, and shrugged. "I don't know." He replied honestly. "I…" He shrugged again, a soft laugh leaving his throat. "I really have no idea."
"Hm," Jude murmured, "Travel, maybe?" There were hundreds of places Nyx could go. Jude had already conquered major cities throughout Europe in his college 'soul searching,' and hitchhiking days, and he knew a few places he might like.
Nyx perked up a little bit. "That would be amazing! But…" he deflated, "I don't have any money to do that with. And I can't really fly. I don't know how it would affect me."
"You could sail." Jude suggested, "Trains, driving…hitchhiking?" He thought about the road trip he and his buddies took across the tri-state after graduating high school, and then all the new friends he made in Europe through broken French, Italian, and German. "It's not as bad as you think. You make a lot of friends."
Nyx shrugged a little bit, and thought for a moment. "I suppose I would have to just figure it out. But…I've also had no education. I have no degrees, for anything. Finding a job would be difficult."
Jude nodded, but perked up with a half-serious idea, "You could be a vlogger or a blogger." He laughed, imagining Nyx in a little french café writing about his experiences in Paris, or wherever he'd been. "That might work." He shrugged, smilling again.
Nyx frowned a little. "A…what?" he asked slowly, cocking his head at Jude and watching him carefully. He had no idea what those two words meant.
"A vlogger, someone who records their adventures, or just daily life to viewers on youtube." He smiled, imagining Nyx holding a camera high up as he walked through busy streets, then somehow finding himself there with him, waving at the camera. Jude shook those thoughts away, because I can't have them. "A blogger is someone who does, like, weekly updates, writing about whatever they're up to and publish it on their own page."
Nyx swallowed, and nodded. "Hm." He darted a glance at Jude. "That sounds interesting." He replied with a faint smile.
Jude nodded, stealing another look at Nyx when he wasn't looking, "I think they'd enjoy seeing you smile at everything." He knew he did, and was positive that his laugh could make anyone smile. The sun was moving slowly to the horizon, and the golden-pink hues drifting through the sky trailed like cigarette smoke and the air rolling gently through the tallgrass field smelled like dew.
Nyx let out a laugh at that. "That or they'd be annoyed." he replied with a smile, eyes studying the sky, taking in its colors and all that beauty.
"Annoyed?" Jude said, fiddling with a stalk of wild wheat and bumping Nyx's shoulder with his own, "Why would they be annoyed?"
Nyx shrugged. "Because I'd be smiling all the time. And that annoys some people." he replied, glancing shyly over at Jude and giving him a quick smile.
"Oh really?" Jude emphasized, "What people? Tell me who gets annoyed." He sighed, catching Nyx's fleeting smile and wishing he could kiss it when it appeared again.
Nyx shrugged. "People are annoyed by strange things sometimes." he replied. "Doesn't mean it's logical." It isn't logical that I want to kiss you again so bad, but yet here we are. His brain added, and he sighed softly.
"Life isn't meant to be logical." He scoffed, smiling, "I wasn't a logical decision, and my father's annoyed by me." Jude twisted the stalk in his hands into little knots, "Nothing we do in life is logical."
Nyx took a deep breath, wrinkling his nose. "I'm afraid that might be a problem, then." He replied. "Seeing as how the mechanical part of my brain runs on logic."
"Really?" Jude teased, smirking and turning to face him better, "So everything you do and feel…logic is behind all that?" He wanted Nyx to kiss him, or for himself to kiss Nyx to prove his own statement wrong..or prove it. Either way, they'd kiss.
"I didn't say everything!" Nyx protested. "Just…I don't know." He shrugged slightly, looking at Jude a little shyly.
"I'm only teasing…" Jude said bumping his shoulder again playfully, "No one knows, really. Everything in life, I think is illogical." Everything except the idea of you.
