“I will do anything for you And I will let you do anything, but I will not let you see what’s about to happen. I can’t let you here it either. So, promise me you’ll stay here. That’s the only thing I’m asking you so please, understand that I have to do this,” Nick stopped Lucas with his hand on Lucas’s chest. “Please.”
"L-Love…" Lucas hugged him tightly, noticeably trembling. He was starting to hyperventilate, and panic was setting in. "Y… You c-can't… please…" He whispered, his voice breaking.
“Shhhh, shhhhh,” he rocked Lucas back and forth. “I’ll be fine. I have to go before they get impatient…” Nick ran off to the back of the school and frowned. “I’m ready…”
Lucas dragged himself into a dark corner, dry sobs wracking his body. He couldn't breathe, and his vision was going blurry. He was full on panicking now, and there wasn't much that could calm him. He wheezed and choked through his hyperventilating, shaking violently enough that he was struggling to stay sitting upright at all.
The nurse passed by and saw this mess. “Lucas. What happened are you okay? Breathe, Breathe. In and out. Tell what happened where’s Nick?”
Lucas tried to speak, but ended up just collapsing hopelessly into a coughing fit. Considering he wasn't able to verbally communicate, and he was shaking so hard that he could barely move, he just looked over at the door Nick had gone through.
The nurse looked at the door and nodded. “I’ll be right back,” she ran over to the door and herd loud grunts. She looked over and gasp. Nick was lying on the floor bleeding, like there’s no tomorrow and three guys with bats. “All of you go to the principal’s office. NOW!”
They all ran.
“I’m fine,” he groaned and coughed up blood.
Lucas started sobbing when he heard Nick's voice. He tried to get up to run to him, but he just fell right back down. "N-Nick!" He wailed, shaking where he lay on the cold tiles. "Nick!"
“Lucas!” Nick coughed up more blood.
“Call an ambulance Lucas!” The nurse yelled. “Stop yelling. You’re hurting yourself Nick.”
"I c… I c-can't!" Lucas called back. "I d-don't have… h… have a phone!" He looked down at his hands, feeling very dizzy. Oh god… I'm probably going to pass out… He realized, which made him even more panicked.
“Lucas, calm down….don’t panic….use mine.” In between pauses he coughed up blood. Nick reach out his phone. ”Hurry.”
Lucas took the phone with shaking hands and managed to type '911'. "H-Hello? Um… I… we need help. M…. M-My friend is b-badly hurt." He stumbled over his words and seemed to be growing increasingly panicked, but he managed to give them the school's address. "I-I think I'm gonna pass out…" He said weakly, which made the operator decide to keep him on the phone for now.
“Breathe okay? He’s going to be fine. Deep breaths that’s what Nick would want right,” the nurse looked at Lucas, while Nick held a thumbs up.
Lucas tried to draw in deep breaths, but the hyperventilating was just making it really hard for him. His vision kept shifting in and out of focus until he just collapsed, the phone clattering to the floor. "Hello? Sir, are you alright?" The phone operator asked, receiving no response.
“Does he sound okay!” Lucas yelled, coughing blood. “How long will it take you to get here!”
"We'll be there as soon as possible, sir." She replied. "Five minutes at most."
“Well, hurry up!” the nurse yelled hanging up the phone. “How are you doing Lucas?”
Lucas didn't respond, as he was still unconscious. He still trembled slightly where he lay on the ground.
“Lucas…” the nurse gasped. They heard sirens and she took a deep breath. They came rushing in putting both of them on medical beds, while they drove to the hospital.
Lucas started coming to on the way to the hospital. "Nngh…" He winced as he opened his eyes. "N-Nick…?" He called out weakly, his voice faltering and breaking.
Nick was unconscious and the doctors told him to keep calm. “We’re almost there, don’t move.
Lucas forced himself to stay where he was, but he wanted desperately to go over to Nick. He was still shaking and seemed to be starting to panic again.
“Calm down!” One on them yelled trying to stabilize Nick. They got to the hospital and they where rushed in. Nick had to have surgery, but Lucas was rushed to a room.
Lucas flinched at being yelled at, just freaking out more. He was rushed into a different room at the hospital and had an oxygen mask strapped to his face to try and help him stop panicking. He was still shaking violently and was being held down on the cot so he couldn't do anything drastic in this state.
They stabilized Lucas and took the breathing mask off. “Okay, how are you feeling?” The doctor asked.
Lucas didn't reply. He just turned onto his side and curled up a bit, still shaking, but able to breathe. He couldn't think about anything but Nick.
“Nick will be fine. All he needs is a little surgery and then he’ll be in the same room as each other okay?” The doctor touched Lucas’s shoulder.
He nodded weakly, still not seeming entirely convinced. He closed his eyes and resigned to wait.
“We’ll leave you. Press the button if you need anything. Here is some water. The doctor placed it in the cup holder before leaving.
Lucas nodded again, eventually sitting up and toying with his hair anxiously. He took a few sips of the water, but he was too unsettled to feel comfortable putting much more in his stomach.
