"I promise to protect you, Fiona. From now until the day I die."
"I promise to protect you, Fiona. From now until the day I die."
"Y-You don't want t-to do that…I-I'll only be a b-burden…"
"No, don't you dare say that. You're not a burden, you never will be."
"T-That's not true…that's w-what they a-always tell me…that I-I'm nothing b-but a burden…."
Dorian made sure to keep his anger in check, "You're not a burden to me," He said quietly, "I love you, you're never going to be a burden, okay?"
"You're just saying that. No one loves me. No one has since me mother died." She was slowly calming down so her stutter faded but her heart hurt.
Dorian made Fiona look at her, at how much care and love he held for her behind his eyes, "I don't just say that to anyone, Fiona. I love you. I love you. Your heart, your passion, your gorgeous face and amazing personality. I love you, so much."
She wanted to tell him what she really felt, that she loved him more than life itself but she just… couldn't. The fear and doubt in her was too strong and she was sure he could read that in her eyes.
Dorian knew she wouldn't say it back, not yet. And he was fine with it. He'd wait as log as he needed for her and respect whatever she wanted to do. He kissed her forehead, hopefully she could understand what he was thinking.
She took a shakey deep breath, working herself up to push past her doubts and fears. "I-I love you too. More t-than I can say." Good job you idiot! You broke the one rule that you hadn't already broken! When they find out, you're going to be in a lot of trouble!
He smiled softly down at her, pressing his forehead against hers, "You're my world, Fiona, and I'll protect you with everything I have. From your family to strangers."
"Just don't forget to protect yourself as you do, Romeo." She giggled softly. "I'd be devastated to hear that you got hurt because of me."
"I will, don't worry, but your safety will come first." He nudged her nose with his own.
She relaxed in his arms, almost completely melting. We should be getting back, it's getting rather late."
"You never finished making your tea."
"Dorian…" She couldn't help but smile as she gave him a blank stare. "Come on, let's get going."
He pouted slightly, “But I want to stay here with you.”
"I know love but I can practically guarantee you that some, if not all, of my family will be waiting for us because, as I said, it's getting late and I should be getting home." She hoped he couldn't see the flash of fear in her eyes when she talked about going home.
“What if I don’t want you to go home? I can’t protect you there, can I?” He restes his forehead against hers, “When can I see you again?”
"Whenever you like. Just say the word and I'll be there." She smiled a little, relaxing in his arms.
Dorian thought for a moment, "Two days time, then?"
"Like I said, whenever you want. Now come on, we really have to go and I have to hope and pray that your little markings don't get us both murdered on the spot."
Dorian smirked, "They'd have to get through me before they could even try and murder you."
"James is a master swordsman and always carries a dagger. 'Going through you' would be taken much more literally than you think and it would not take long."
"You underestimate my skills love, I'm not too bad with a sword myself."
"Which one?" She raised an eyebrow at him with a flirty smile.
He smirked, "Both."
"Well, I know half of that claim is true. Not so sure about the other half."
"Guess you're just gonna have to wait and find out then."
"Okay, I'm serious this time, we really have to go."
