“Oh come on at least go into town and meet people in general. Maybe you run into some girl maybe you don’t,” she said attempting to joke around but a pang of guilt and jealousy hits her and her last sentence comes out a little shaky.

Aurelie pursed her lips. “I don’t understand why you keep shoving girls at me. If you hate me so much, then leave me alone. And if this is some twisted way of trying to help me, why?”

Eli was beginning to feel quite awkward, but stayed there just in case things got ugly. Aurelie liked to think she could defend herself, but Cat might have some nasty tricks up her sleeve.

“I don’t remember actually saying that I hate you so I’m not sure why you keep saying g that I do,” Cat said her smile dropping. “Also this is me trying to help. That’s all I’ve been doing this whole time.”

“Because playing with my emotions is totally helping me,” Aurelie spat before composing herself. She carefully shut away her anger, her face turning into the calm mask it was around her father and the other royals. “Sorry, that was not very princess-like of me. If you would like to go, then that is fine.”

Eli frowned, knowing that when Aurelie got like this with someone it meant that she didn’t trust them. She was hiding all of her emotions from Cat like she was another member of the court.

Cat went silent. Looking sway from Aurelie and down at the floor. “I’m really sorry Aurelie. I didn’t mean to mess with your emotions. I really am just trying to help,” she says after a moment of silence.

“It’s fine; I understand,” Aurelie responded stiffly, covering up her hurt. One would really have to know her to recognize that she cared at all.

Cat didn't believe her. "I'm going to leave. I just wanted to know if you were up to going back into town," he said taking a step back.

“Yes we can go back into town,” Aurelie replied, taking a step forward. “Unless you don’t want to?”

Cat brightened up a little. "I want too. Just didn't think you did," she said with a small smile.

“I suppose that I can handle it one last time,” Aurelie replied offhandedly.

“I’ll be off then,” Eli added quickly. “I’ve got places to be.” He flashed a brief smile at Aurelie before hurrying off.

Cat waved at Eli but let out a breath when he left. She still didn’t like the guard. “If you’re sure then let’s get going,” she said a little less tense.

“Yes, let’s,” Aurelie agreed, her posture still rigid and her face meticulously devoid of any real emotion. Eli had told her it was kind of scary how she could cover up her feelings so quickly, but Aurelie had to in order to not disappoint her family and friends.

Cat ignored the fact that she knew Aurelie was putting on an act. She lead her away from the castle and into town.

Aurelie followed the other girl, throwing the hood of her cloak over her head again. Her intricate bun disappeared under the tan cloak, along with her neutral expression.

Cat walked a few feet ahead of her. wondering to a park area in the village. It was similar to the castle's gardens but less fancy.

Aurelie glanced around, admiring the gardens. She did like flowers. “Where are we going?” she asked.

“I don’t really have anyone for you too meet but that didn’t seem to be working anyway. I decided to just walk around the park. Maybe you’ll meet someone on your own,” she said looking around.

“Maybe,” Aurelie responded uncertainly. Or maybe you already met her, the thought came unbidden to her mind. Of course it wasn’t Cat. She was being stupid. “I suppose it wouldn’t hurt to try.”

Cat nodded. She wished they where in the park for a different reason. Before the events of the festival she was actually thinking of bringing her here. Holding her hand as they walked around. Instead she walked I front of her having no clue what she’s even thinking.

“So…we just wait here for someone to walk up?” Aurelie asked her, pressing her lips together. She glanced at Cat before looking away again.

Cat shrugged. “Or you go up to someone,” she suggested. She honestly didn’t have a plan. Her mind ran through scenarios but Cat honestly didn’t want to see any of them go through. She sat down at a bench next to a bunch of flowers.

“I suppose I could,” she echoed unenthusiastically. Aurelie glanced around at the other people there, not moving beyond that.

Cat crossed her legs and pretended like she was looking at the flowers. She had brought a small bag with her sketchbook but she knew she wouldn’t be able to focus on drawing. Not when she kept looking at Aurelie out of the corner of her eye.

Aurelie sat next to Cat, looking at people strolling by. In her mind’s eye, she was looking at Cat. She pictured Cat waking her up from her sleep and the two of them living happily together, slipping into a daydream.

Cat finally took out her sketchbook. The last 3 pages consisted of Aurelie so she quickly flipped past them. Settling on a blank page but all she could think of drawing was the princess next to her.

Aurelie didn’t even notice, being so caught up in her own little world. She smiled softly as she imagined being with Cat again, except without the lies this time. She thought she could forgive Cat, and she realized as she daydreamed that somewhere inside her, she already had.

Cat got frustrated when her mind kept traveling back to Aurelie. she hates me and even if she didn’t I can’t be with her. I’ll help her find her true love and then leave. she thought shutting her sketchbook accidentally slamming it out of anger.

That shook Aurelie out of her reverie. She turned to Cat, looking concerned. “Are you okay?” she asked softly.

“Yeah I’m fine,” she said putting on a small smile. She needs to think of this like a job even though that didn’t really work the first time.

Aurelie wasn’t convinced, but realized that pressing it would get her anywhere. “Okay, if you’re certain. Maybe we should just take a nap here,” she suggested.
