Grace nodded slightly confused but led them to a back room. “Ok what’s up?” Grace asked glancing at Aurelie but mainly looking at Cat.
Grace nodded slightly confused but led them to a back room. “Ok what’s up?” Grace asked glancing at Aurelie but mainly looking at Cat.
Aurelie looked to Cat as well to explain, feeling rather awkward but not showing it.
“Well this is Aurelie,” Cat admitted and graces eyes widened.
“You mean as in princess Aurelie?” She asked squirming slightly turning to Aurelie and bowing.
Aurelie blinked, color flooding her face. She took off the head unceremoniously, giving Grace a wan smile. “Um, hello. You don’t need to bow. It’s fine,” she said, glancing at Cat for reassurance.
Cat laughed nervously. “You don’t need to bow grace. Anyway I was wondering if we can hang out here? Aurelie doesn’t really get out of the castle much and wants to meet more people,” Cat said whispering the last part to Grace.
Aurelie adjusted her hair, pushing it all behind her shoulders. It was in a half-up half-down style today that was fairly casual for her.
Grace immediately stopped bowing and extended her hand. “Well it’s nice to meet you Aurelie!”
Aurelie shook her hand. “It’s nice to meet you as well,” she replied politely, with a smile. Grace seemed nice, but Aurelie didn’t understand Cat’s need for her to meet the other girl.
Cat shifted slightly as Grace dropped her hand. It was awkwardly silent for a good minute.
Aurelie glanced at Cat before taking a breath and breaking the silence. "So, how has your day been?" she asked Grace, doing her best to not be awkward. But even with her royal social graces, she couldn't avoid teenage awkwardness.
"Oh umm, its been great! The bakery's doing well how about you?" Grace asked also trying not to be awkward.
"I'm doing well," Aurelie responded evenly, with a small smile. She brushed back a lock of hair. "What's it like, working in a bakery?"
"I like it. Sometimes it gets boring if no one comes in but other times its so overwhelming with almost the whole town coming for bread," She said her smile widening slightly. "But I like baking!"
"Yeah," Aurelie said with a dreamy smile, imaging what it might be like to live such a wonderfully simple life. "What's your favorite kind of bake?"
"I like making cookies!" she said after a moment of thinking. Cat was close to them but made sure she was out of the conversation. She hated every moment of it but she new this was for the best.
Aurelie did her best not to look over at Cat, aware of every move that the other girl made. "Mmm. I love cookies," she responded. "What else do you do besides bake?"
"I'm usually really busy in the bakery but I also play the guitar," She said keeping her eyes on Aurelie.
"You can play the guitar?" Aurelie asked, impressed. "Wow, what can't you do?"
Grace blushed and smiled. "well I can't play any other instruments and I'm not that good," he admits.
"If you don't mind playing something for me, that'd be awesome," she said. "And you can say no," she added hastily, remembering that she was a princess.
"I'd love too!" she said. "One minute I'll get my guitar!" She left the room.
Aurelie shot a glance at Cat, curious to see her expression. She secretly hoped that Cat didn't like her talking to Grace, but Cat had suggested it. Why would Cat be jealous?
cat's face showed no emotion as she leaned back in her seat. her legs crossed trying not to look at Aurelie.
Aurelie did all she could not to huff with indignation. Cat just looked bored. Of course. Why didn't she just leave then? Aurelie and Grace could have fun by themselves, besides, why did Aurelie even care that Cat wasn't jealous? She was just being dumb.
"I can leave if you'd like," Cat said picking at her nails she didnt really want to go.
"It doesn't make a difference to me," Aurelie responded, her voice surprisingly level. She was unsure how she had come to be so skilled at lying, but it suited her well now, since she was sure Cat would probably want to leave. She clearly wanted to ship Aurelie off with some other girl, for reasons that Aurelie couldn't fathom. It hurt.
"Fine then I'll stay," Cat said deciding not to leave the two until Aurelie straight up tells her too.
Aurelie did her best to keep an even expression at that, a quick twitch of her cheek the only thing giving her away. “Okay, whatever.” She wondered when Grace would come back.
Cat's cold expression turned into a smile as she heard Grace walk in. "Sorry it took me so long I couldnt remember what room I left it in," She apologized sitting down with her guitar.
"No, it's completely fine," Aurelie replied, her voice going back to its milk and honey tone of earlier. Her face instantly warmed when Grace entered the room.
