“Good bye Aurelie,” Cat called in a monotone voice. She didn’t turn around and leave instead she watched Aurelie go.
“Good bye Aurelie,” Cat called in a monotone voice. She didn’t turn around and leave instead she watched Aurelie go.
Aurelie walked back through the gates to the side door she had snuck out of. She tried to get Cat out of her head, upset.
Once Cat saw that she had snuck back in she turned around. Going to a different hiding place she had in town.
Aurelie sighed as she walked back to her room. Of course Cat was there! It wouldn't matter in a few days, anyway. Hopefully her true love would find her and she wouldn't have to think of Cat any more…or she could end up trapped in a magical slumber forever.
Cats eyes watered as she sat on the ground in an abandoned house. She finally let tears slip through thinking about twists going to happen in a few days.
Aurelie found a book and began to read to avoid thinking. She knew if she did she would only make herself upset. Her father definitely would not understand, and she didn't want him to try and throw more boys at her. Lord knew that would only make things worse.
Cat tried to calm herself down and stop thinking of the princess. She knew there was nothing she could do. Aurelie hated her.
Aurelie's mind kept wandering. It was no use. Even her best distraction wasn't working. She sighed.
Cat stood up. She had to do something. She cleaned off her face and walked out. Talking to a few people before sneaking to the castle. She was on the side throwing pebbles at Aurelie’s window.
Aurelie noticed the pebbles with confusion. Who would be throwing rocks at her window? She set down the book and walked over to it. "Hello?" she called, opening the window and looking down to see Cat. "What do you want?" And why are you following me?
“Can you come down and we’ll talk I don’t want to attract any guards with shouting?” She whispered shouted.
Aurelie rolled her eyes, looking annoyed. "Fine," she mouthed, closing the window. A few minutes later she was standing in front of Cat. "What?" she asked irritably. "Here to tell me how to live my life again?"
“I’m not telling you I’m asking. Do you want to go into town and I’ll introduce you to people? I know you say it won’t help but I think it really will,” Cat attempted biting her lip.
"If you want me to go into town and meet people, I'll do it, okay? But I'd rather go by myself," Aurelie said unhappily, wrinkling her nose. Because you'll distract me and I won't want to talk to the other people, she added internally.
“I don’t want you to go alone. Can I at least introduce you to a few merchants daughters. If you click with one of them I’ll leave you guys alone,” she pleaded feeling a pang of jealousy but buried it down.
"You won't leave me alone until I agree, will you?" she sighed, giving in. She might as well try, she supposed, even if she hated and loved being around Cat at the same time. Even if being around Cat made it hard for her to concentrate.
Cat nodded. “Are you ready to go now?” She asked.
Aurelie sighed, sharply letting out a breath. “I suppose,” she conceded. “Let’s get this over with.”
She smiled turning around and walking towards the town.
Aurelie followed unenthusiastically, trailing behind Cat like a petulant child. She pulled up the hood on her cloak to conceal her face, but she looked highly annoyed at this turn of events.
Once in town she turned to the markets. There were a lot less people than the day of the festival. She stopped in front of a bakery.
“Is this where we’re going girl hunting?” Aurelie huffed, wrinkling her nose. “Please tell me you don’t intend to stop at every bakery, butchery, or other shop. I don’t have a lot of time to spare.”
“No just 3 shops but we’re starting with her because I think you’d like her,” Cat admits holding the door open for her.
Aurelie groaned but walked through the door, her face shifting into a polite mask as soon as she entered. She held her head high, her hood still on. “Should I take off my hood? Will she freak out if she recognizes me?”
“You should keep it on for now. She won’t freak out but I’m not sure where her parents are,” Cat said walking in behind her. It was a small bakery. No one behind the counter but she rang the little bell.
Aurelie kept her pleasant look on, though she really wanted to scowl and cross her arms and act like a child instead of a nearly-eighteen-year old princess. Of course, though, she stayed still and serene as the two of them waited. She was extremely aware of Cat right next to her, but tried not to think about it.
Cat made sure she stood at least a foot away from Aurelie as a girl there she walked out from the back room.
Aurelie glanced at Cat to do the talking, since Aurelie had never seen this girl before in her life. Her posture looked regal even hidden beneath her cloak.
Cat smiled at the girl. “Hey Grace! I was just in town and was wondering if we could talk?” She asked looking around.
Grace? Was that where Cat had gotten her fake name from? Aurelie smirked slightly at the thought before remembering that she was supposed to be nice to these random girls because Cat thought it would help. Aurelie doubted it.
