"I can't even take care of myself, like, at all… I have to come crying to you for help because I'm too big of a coward to do it myself…"
"I can't even take care of myself, like, at all… I have to come crying to you for help because I'm too big of a coward to do it myself…"
"You're not a coward," Nick said softly. "You don't need to suffer through everything on your own. You have nothing to prove."
Cas bit his lip, looking away again. "B-But I do, though… I'm the prince. The only prince in my kingdom. I'm expected to have some problem solving abilities, but it's kinda hard when the king is my problem."
"We'll get through this," Nick reassured, hoping that by saying it that would make it true. He wouldn't know what to do otherwise.
He shrugged. "Maybe we will, maybe we won't. Maybe we'll die before we can, who the hell knows?"
Nick sighed. “Whatever happens, I’ll just remember all of the moments with you and that I love you.”
"I love you too…" Cas shuffled closer to Nick, tucking himself under his arm.
Nick smiled. "No matter what happens, I'll do everything I can to make sure we both make it out alive."
"Thanks, Nick. Glad you care." Cas kissed his cheek before moving his head back down to his shoulder.
"Of course I care," he replied, glancing at Cas. "I care so much. By the way, are you feeling any better?"
"Eh, not much. I'm okayish now, but I can tell I'll be sore tomorrow."
“At least it’s only temporary, right? And if you need anything I can help,” he said, trying at optimism again. “Do you think you can go back or do you want to rest for a bit more?”
"Um… I might… we can sit here a bit longer, I guess…" Cas fidgeted with his hands, not meeting Nick's eyes.
“Okay, that’s fine,” Nick replied. “Is something wrong?”
"N-No, just still feeling dumb…" He shrugged, forcing himself to drop his hands.
He didn’t say anything in response, unsure what the correct response to that even was. Instead he leaned in and gave Cas a peck on the cheek. “Being with you is nice.”
"Mhmm… I like hanging out with you, even when I hurt myself." Cas laughed weakly, managing to look up at Nick.
“I can kiss it better, if it would help,” he joked, trying to make Cas feel better.
"Kiss what better? My back?" He kissed Nick's cheek softly, a faint glimmer of humor flashing in his eyes for a brief moment.
Nick was glad that he could make Cas feel better, however briefly. “Yeah,” he said with a small smile.
"I mean, if you wanna kiss my back, I won't stop you… it'd be kinda weird, though." He shrugged, wincing slightly when he did so.
Nick blushed, not having thought much about that. “How about I kiss your lips instead?”
"That'd be nice." Cas kissed Nick, having to tilt his chin up quite a bit to do so.
Nick kissed him back, putting his arms around Cas’s waist. This was definitely better than Cas being upset, though Nick knew he couldn’t do anything to actually take the pain itself away.
Cas pulled away once he needed air and lay his head on Nick's shoulder again. "We… we should probably head back soon…"
“Yeah,” he agreed, even though he didn’t really want to move. He hoped that Cas was feeling up to it. “Do you think that you can get back onto the horse, or would you rather we walk?”
"I think I can get on. Well, with your help." Cas carefully got to his feet, placing one hand on the fence to steady himself.
Nick stood as well, getting the horses rounded up. “Okay, I can help with that.”
Cas nodded, getting up onto his horse with Nick's help. "Alright, let's go." He gently urged his horse on towards the stable.
Nick followed, watching Cas to make sure he didn’t accidentally hurt himself again. He soon was level with him.
