You're not good enough. You'll never be good enough. Dani looked on helplessly as the memory unfolded. Dead bodies littered the streets, fires everywhere, people screaming, and HIM standing in the middle of the street, holding Kaitie's lifeless body in his arms. He laughed. "Your sister is dead child." Her uncle was the one of the most ruthless agents of the R.A.C. Then he dropped her and walked up to Dani, stabbing her in the stomach. Dani screamed and sat up.
Ace stared into space, wondering if it had been THAT obvious. His face deepened to a darker red as he continued thinking about Macha and the kisses they'd shared. "So, how are you and Ana? You guys seem to talk a lot." Ace leaned back into the cushions of the sofa, satisfied that he'd made a good enough conversation turn around.
Joshua snapped out of his reverie. His face flushed, and he hid his face in his sweater paws. "I…we're friends? I guess? I just met her yesterday. I barely know her…" He lowered his voice until he was nearly whispering, "She's super cute, though."
A scream pierced the silence.
Joshua turned around in alarm. "Dani," was all he said before bounding out of the room and down the hall to Dani's bedroom. Upon reaching the door, he apologized to the door and Dani's privacy before flinging the door open. He rushed to Dani's bed side and gently placed his hand on her shoulder. "Dan, what happened–are you okay?!" He spoke in a hushed, yet concerned voice.
Ace sat in shock. The last time he'd heard a scream like this was when Kameo…………No, don't think about that, Ace chided to himself. He lept off the couch and slid into Dani's room.
(Lol, Protective Brother Squad to the rescue! Invading people's personal privacy since…looks at watch three minutes ago! XD)
Is your tiny XD man okay? Is he dead?
Dani took in her breaths in short gasps. She looked at Josh. "I-it w-was so h-horrible." She told him, tears streaming down her cheeks. "K-Kaitie……………." She hugged her knees and sobbed.
Ace enveloped Dani in a hug, desperately hoping she wouldn't sense how awkward he felt.
(But we need to remember that the girl is just 16 and has been through so much, nightmares are frequent for her.)
Hasn't everyone been through a lot in this roleplay? All of our characters have sad backstories…
(Yup. You haven't heard about the worst that happened to Dani yet. *evil grin)
(But i'm pretty sure Ace has the worst backstory.)
Dani felt two strong arms envelope her, and she let herself sob into Ace's shoulder.
(Ack! I gtg now! See you all tomorrow! X~X)
Dani sobbed into his shirt and he patted her on the back. "It's going to be okay. I can't promise it, but it's going to be okay."
After a few minutes, Dani's sobs subsided and she calmed down. She pulled away from Ace and hugged her knees. "Sorry Ace." She said, her voice still trembling.
"No, don't be sorry. I'm glad that you're okay." Ace felt a rush of affection towards Dani, almost as if she was his little sister.
Dani nodded gently. "Just to warn you, this might happen again." Dani picked up a picture that was beside her bed.
"We all of our fair share of breakdowns, me especially." Ace flashed a grin towards Dani and gave her a thumbs up.
She smiled at Ace. "Thanks for being understanding. My brothers would burst into my room with nerf guns every time I screamed in my sleep. They called themselves 'Dani's superguards'. It was funny." She smiled at the memory.
"My brother died at birth and my older sister was murdered in my village's massacre. She was expecting her first child." Ace's grin faded as he recalled his memories from the past.
Dani looked at Ace with soft eyes. "It's hard, isn't it? Always wondering what would have happened if they hadn't died?" Dani took off her jacket, showing Ace her scars. "I probably wouldn't have these if my family had lived."
(Ta-da! Ace earned her trust.)
"It is." a soft smile spread across Ace's face as he thought about life if they hadn't died. "I have scars too, but I doubt you want an up close and personal look at my tragic backstory."
Dani smirked. "Try me. I bet my backstory is more tragic than yours." She sat cross-legged on her bed and motioned for him to sit on the bed too.
"I don't know about that, my backstory is….." he fumbled for the right word. "Heartbreaking."
Dani raised an eyebrow. "I was tortured for two months, lost my parents and six siblings, including my twin sister, I lost three of my best friends, was stabbed more than once on more than one occasion, and several other things happened to me. I'm pretty sure I can handle it."
