Romilly sat down in one of the open seats, “Ah…” she tilted her head at the hand signs the others, and Max, were making. It seemed like they were communicating some way, but she didn’t recognize the language. She was only familiar with understanding English so far, and she even had a little bit of trouble with that “Is that, what are you doing?”
Ezra was glad when they started to sign. It was less pressure on him, since he hadn’t had a clue what they were saying. He nibbled at the edges of his sandwich, but in truth, he was already ready to leave the cafeteria. He never usually ate much.
“We’re communicating with hand gestures,” Max explained. “Each one means something. Like, for example, here is ‘I like dogs.’” He signed the last part as he said it. “I’d teach you some, but I mostly know basic stuff.”
“Ohh,” She watched him, “Please, That’s cool. I know something like that. I can’t do it well anymore, though.” She stuffed her hands in her pockets and leaned forward into the table. “I’m Romilly,” she spoke to them all with an excited, while a little unnerving, smile, “Max’s friend, I’m his friend.”
"I think I know everything," Lexath said quietly, it was the first time they had spoken and knowing them, it was probably the last for a bit.
Max was a bit surprised that Lexath was using sign language when they could talk, but he had known some people with pretty weird curses, so he easily shook it off. “It’s impressive that you all seem to know so many languages,” Max replied with a smile.
"I'm Lexath. I forgot to introduce myself!" They fingerspelled their name, smiling shyly as they did so.
(Oh frick I was sleeping sorry!)
Elizabeth glided into the lunchroom late. She'd somehow managed to get lost, even with a crowd of people heading in the same direction. She carefully scanned the lunchroom for an empty table and found that every. Single. One was full, except for one near the edge of the room. She reluctantly glided over and hesitated. "Sorry to bother, could I join you?"
“Of course!” Max exclaimed. “I’m Max, by the way!”
"Elizabeth," she introduced herself as she sat cross-legged, hovering above her seat. "Nice to meet you… I think," she said quietly.
"I'm Ava!" She says smiling wide and turning to the new girl. She grabbed her lunchbox from her backpack.
Elizabeth nodded to her. "Lovely name," she commented. She was only basing her responses off of what she'd heard throughout the day, but she hoped it was what normal people were supposed to say. She didn't have any food, so she simply fell silent, staring down at the floor.
Romilly rested her chin on her hands, gazing at Lexath’s baggie, “Are those acorns?” She mumbled and smacked her lips “I like acorns.”
"Want some?" Lexath asked, reminding themselves of the magic saying. Always ask, never tell.
"Thank you!" she says taking out her sandwich. "Did you bring lunch?" she looked up at the girl.
(sorry i misread vengeful's thing and thought they were talking to Elizabeth)
“Ah! Yes please!” She lifted her head out of her hands to hold out her palms, “Thank you, thank you, thank you.” She hummed happily and bounced her knee under the table, a particular habit she saw other students doing that she picked up on.
Elizabeth shook her head. "Er, no. Not that I need it, anyway," she responded quietly, tapping her fingers on her leg.
Lexath smilled. "No problem! I can't eat them all anyhow." They handed over the baggy.
"Even if you don't need to eat it still tastes good," she says, "Want a cookie?" She pulls out a baggie of 3 chocolate chip cookies.
Romilly gasped, having expected to only be handed a few. She took the baggy and stuffed her hand in to fish out a handful. Satisfied with half of a handful, she handed the baggy back and thanked Lexath again, “I’m happy!”
"Here! Have the whole bag." Lexath replied, accidentally commanding. Their curse was put into action and they immediately apologized. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry!"
"Er, no, thanks. I'm fine," she responded, picking at a nail. No way she was going to accept anything from a near stranger.
Max ate his food, glad that everyone at his table seemed to be getting along for the most part. His appetite had rapidly increased as soon as he had bitten, and he was demolishing the large amount of food he had gotten, but was pretty self-conscious about it. “You guys are all so nice!”
(oops, I'm just going to pop in here)
The second Gavriel walked into the mess hall, he knew how much of a first-year he looked like. Standing in the middle of all the tables, constantly looking around for some empty place to sit at. He brought his own lunch knowing that if h even attempted to pick up a lunch tray that it would fall straight through his hands causing a scene. It was like everyone had someone to sit next to and was already talking to them, except for this one kid. The kid was at the corner of the table not much far from the other kids but not talking to anyone. Perfect. Gavriel made his way over to the table and sat diagonally across from said boy and took out his lunch, not saying a word.
Max noticed another newcomer at their table, and smiled. “Hey! What’s your name?” Max exclaimed. “Mine is Max!”
Gavriel internally groaned at the second someone noticed him. Is everyone at this school going to be like this? "I'm Gavriel." He quickly said, not even sparing the Max a glance. Socializing was way too hard and what was the point of it if you were just going to end up awkward in some way after it. Or that's how it was for him.
Max beamed anyway, ignoring the fact that Gavriel wasn’t paying him any attention. “Nice to meet you!”
"Mmh." Gavriel responded, hoping this interaction would end soon. He closed his lunch bag and took out his phone, putting in his earbuds as he did so.
Ezra was about to point out how the new guy was being a bit rude to Max, but he stopped himself when he realized he couldn’t say much better about himself. Besides, Ezra didn’t even know what the guy’s curse was. He shook his head, glancing at Max before he interjected, “Uh, hey Max? Could you help me find my next class after lunch?” Ezra didn’t know where his class was after all, so maybe a little bit of help wouldn’t matter.
