"And school?…Friends?"
"And school?…Friends?"
"I was homeschooled by my dad, which clearly didn't do me much good. As for friends… not really. Just the alley cats." He finished his sandwich and sighed quietly.
Sorin handed him a water bottle. "I didn't really go to school either. My dad and brothers taught me everything I know now."
Cas sipped his water and nodded. "My mom abandoned me pretty much as soon as I was born, so my dad raised me alone. Raised being used loosely."
"Oh… I'm sorry, Cas," Sorin finished up the rest of his sandwich and sighed. "My father wasn't all that great either. He always favored my brothers, more specifically Michael."
"Don't be sorry, it's not your fault… we finally had one too many arguments and I'd had enough. I left." Cas lay back on the blanket. "Did you have a mother? Well, obviously you had to be born, but you know what I mean…"
"No, angels don't have mothers. God is our creator, our Father."
"Huh… so is God like, your dad then? I don't think he'd show favoritism like you were saying, though…"
"He tries not to make it obvious, but I know he does. If he loved me-" Sorin stopped himself, he couldn't display his emotions at a time like this, especially in front of Cas.
"God or a different dad? I'm still confused."
"God," he took a sip of water.
"Huh… isn't favoritism a sin or something? And God can't sin?" Cas glanced over at Sorin curiously.
"He's God. He does whatever he pleases."
"I mean, yeah, I guess… I never really thought about it much. Dunno if my dad was religious or not."
"Your father…didn't go after you when you left?"
Cas shook his head. "During the fight, I told him I was leaving. I'm a man of my word and he didn't care enough to try and get me to come back, so I didn't."
"I'm sorry you had to live like that Cas…" he lied down on his back. "Mine didn't either. Well, except with me, I didn't leave; he kicked me out."
"Mm… What did you get kicked out for? To my knowledge, there's usually a reason."
"Berenice."
"What about Berenice? Did she do something and blame you?"
"Falling in love with her wasn't something that was exactly allowed up there," he pointed towards the now dark blue sky. "I was her guardian angel."
"Ah… why was she able to sense me through the phone, though?" He asked, looking back out on the pond to watch some ducks.
"Demon senses are incredibly strong. She probably just heard your breathing."
"But I was hardly breathing! And she referred to me as a 'soul' which was strangely unnerving…"
Sorin smiled a bit. "Yeah, she's… that's just the way she is."
Cas nodded, shivering as a breeze blew through his (cat) ears. He seemed entranced by the nearby geese.
Sorin wrapped a wing around him, watching the geese as well.
Cas gave off a low growl as he watched the geese; not directed at Sorin, of course. He looked like he might jump up and start chasing them at any moment.
He cocked his eyebrow questioningly. "Cas?"
"Is it strange that I have to fight a strong desire to kill those geese?" Cas asked softly, his tail swaying as he kept his eyes fixed on the birds.
