Tolly shivered at the feeling. "Am I?" he asked quietly, rubbing the shoulder with the scar on it nervously. "Then why did he get to do this to me?"
Tolly shivered at the feeling. "Am I?" he asked quietly, rubbing the shoulder with the scar on it nervously. "Then why did he get to do this to me?"
"because he was the weak one. He could deal with his problems so he let out his anger on his wife and child." He said softly
"Children," Tolly corrected quietly. "Um… he did worse to my brothers. Honestly, this is… nothing. Not compared to what they had to go through."
"you have siblings?" He glanced up at Tollys "none of you should've been the recurving end of his abuse."
"Yeah, I have a sister and I had two brothers. Um… now I just have one. But… anyways, I only had to deal with dad until I turned 9. My brothers had to deal with them until they… well, Ilya ran away at 17 and… and Demyan only… he only got to 16 before he… um… he passed away." Tolly took a shaky breath, eyes burning with unshed tears.
Cas' flinched and hurried his head into Tollys shoulder "how did he…pass away?" He asked, the question lodging in his throat.
Tolly swallowed, leaning against Cas for comfort. "It… um… it was a car crash. Dad was… he was drunk and they were fighting and a minivan hit the side of the car and… and Demyan didn't make it."
"I..I'm sorry." He bit his lip to stop the sob coming from his throat, hoping Tollys couldn't sense his erratic heartbeat or slight trembling.
Tolly felt him shaking and turned to face him, carefully wrapping Cas up in a warm hug. "I'm sorry! Did I upset you? I'll just shut up about it, it doesn't really matter. Sorry."
Cas' shook his head "don't say that, your family is very important." He took in a Shakey breath "I'm sorry, I'm not good in emotional situations."
"It's fine, we don't have to talk about it if you don't want to." Tolly pulled Cas a little closer, frowning when he noticed how close he was to crying. "Shit! Did I make you cry?"
"almost, if you tell me your dog died too I think I might." He tried to joke but just saying it aloud made him wanting to cry
Tolly forced out a laugh. "I'm sorry, Cas. I didn't mean to put you in such a bad mood." He petted Cas' hair gently, trying to calm him down. "Are you alright? Do you want me to talk about something else?"
"yes please. It's not that I don't care. I really do, believe me I do. I just can't handle that much at once." He leaned into Tollys hand and purred softly in content
"I get it. Stuff like this can be… a lot. It's hard to hear about." Tolly smiled softly at him, a little bit of sadness lingering in his gaze. "Um… what should we talk about then?"
"was he always that way?" He asked softly, faxing up at Tollys with a hopeful expression,
Tolly sighed shakily, burying his face in Cas' shoulder. "I… um… he was nice when we had company over. He was like… a new person. All smiles and pats on the back. And one time, when mom was still… still trying, he took us to this little water park, and we had a vacation."
"but he was never genuinely happy. At least not when his kids were with him." Cas' sighed and shook his head, nuzzling Tollys head with his own
Tolly huffed against Cas' neck. "My dad wasn't… he wasn't a happy person, Cas. We're Russian, emotions are only good for drowning in vodka and all that shit."
"sounds like fun…" Cas' muttered sarcastically, shivering slightly as Tolly's breath caressed his neck "vodka and emotions. Human's best poison."
Tolly snorted. "Yeah. Plus he was big on the whole 'emotions and affection are for girls so I'll never ever show them' thing. It wasn't the nicest environment to grow up in."
"well at least you didn't live in it for long, you get to live here for a while. I'm sure you'll love out soon after college too. Maybe find a place for your sister, brother bad mom, away from him." He suggested, a small smile appearing as he managed to make Tollys smile a bit.
"Oh, I actually… I haven't lived with him for a long time. That's why I say my brothers had it worse. Um… my mom kind of… armored up after my sister, Fey, was born. Started calling dad out on his shit and standing up for herself and… eventually, she divorced him. But she only got me and Fey. Dad… um… dad got my brothers."
"then after college we can try to get to your brother out." He said with a nod.
Tolly laughed. "Ilya's… Ilya's not dealing with our dad anymore. The old man's not exactly our biggest worry. I mean… he died last year. How could he be?"
Cas' relaxed a bit and sighed "did he inherit his father's actions?"
"No, Ilya's just… he's been through a lot. He…" Tolly smiled weakly, an excited sparkle in his eyes. "He's been talking to me more recently. We went to a… um… a cafe! And we had cake and we… we talked. It was wonderful."
"that's great! He's doing good then? The both of you?" Cas' broke into a smile at hearing that Tolly had gotten to spend time with his family
Tolly nodded, his hesitant smile growing brighter and more sure. "Yeah! He moved into his first apartment and I'm supposed to visit in half a week. I'm… um… I'm really excited about it." He flushed, embarrassed by how enthusiastic he was.
Cas brushed his hand along Tollys cheek "I'm sure he's just as excited. Watcha gonna do this time?" He asked, the excitement catching onto the both of them
