"But if it's not wrong, then why don't you do it? Meat is good for you." Kono picked up a jeweled necklace.
"But if it's not wrong, then why don't you do it? Meat is good for you." Kono picked up a jeweled necklace.
"I don't - " she sighed. "I don't know how to explain human psychology. I just don't like it. I'm not condemning anyone who does. I just don't."
"Hmm… humans are confusing." Kono muttered, letting the necklace fall from his hand.
Gemini snorted. "You think that now? Try living with them."
"I don't think that would end well. Remember the whole… dragon thing. Can't stay fully human for more than a couple days."
"No, it's - it's sarcasm - am I going to have to explain everything to you? This is going to get really frustrating," she said, putting her head in her hands.
"I don't 'get out much' as you said earlier. I'm not great at conversation." Kono sighed softly to himself.
"You're not as bad as some people, despite being completely clueless," she assured him.
"Mm… how do you mean?" Kono kept fidgeting with various bits of treasure.
(How do you explain that little hiss through your teeth when you're like "yikes?")
"Some people don't understand how to be decent human beings," she said, choosing her words carefully.
(Gemini inhaled sharply through her teeth, Kono's cluelessness a bit painful to experience)
"Well, I'm no expert on human decency… I have a feeling I've only met humans who aren't 'decent'."
(👌👌👌👌 )
"Why thank you, good sir, I feel so validated," she replied sarcastically.
Kono sighed. "Except for you. You humans and validation… what do you care what some random dragon shifter thinks of you, anyway?"
"I. Don't. KNOW. Trust me, if it was an option to not care about anyone else's opinion, I would take it. But that's not how the human brain works," she told him plainly.
"Why don't you just lie to yourself until it feels true?" Kono said entirely seriously. "If I can do that, you can."
Gemini shook her head. "It doesn't work like that. Humans can lie to ourselves, but it won't ever feel true."
"Well, yeah, but you can repress it enough that it's pretty close…" Kono said dreamily, staring blankly at a wall.
"That's not - I don't like doing that either. Because it never works and then I feel like a failure for being able to be hurt," she sighed.
Kono shrugged. "Yep. Better than nothing, though. Trust me on that one."
"No offense or anything, but I trust myself a LOT more than I trust you," she answered.
"That's fair. Either way, I've done my fair share of lying to myself." Kono flicked his tail, still staring at the wall.
"I can tell, " she told him emphatically. "You've made that very clear."
"Mhmm. Do human parents generally stay with their children?" Kono glanced over at Gemini.
Gemini shrugged. "I think so. Most of them die, where I live, so I can't be sure. They usually don't leave in purpose, though. Those that do are what we call 'assholes.'"
"Oh… does that make my father an 'asshole'? My mother would not be… she's dead, so, you know." Kono hummed, picking up a coin again.
"Yeah, basically," she told him, shrugging. "I don't know if it's the same for dragons, though."
"Neither do I… I mean, he taught me that humans are dangerous and I needed to protect the treasure, and that was about it before he flew off. Wonder if he's still alive…?"
Gemini looked away. "The Earth is a big place. It's sort of impossible to know."
Kono shrugged. "Dragons live a long time and are hard to kill, so it's likely. If not likely, then at least possible."
She shrugged blankly, yawning. "Just… don't go looking for him or anything. Had a friend who did that once, and it didn't work out well."
