Ah, Nancy Drew. My childhood. I stood in front of the aisle in the library, debating on which one to choose. These books were all good. Outdated, but fun.

(naw I write in 3rd so yeah that's a thing) Connor sat in the back of the library, large volumes of comic books stacked on top of one or two actual novels. They had a volume of Transformers in their hand and was reading it for the millionth time while trying to draw one of the characters
I put the book down for a second, trying not to scream. Man, I hate plot twists. Reading them, that is. Writing them however……………….I took a notebook out of my bag to write something down before I forgot it, humming Piece By Piece by Kelly Clarkson under my breath.
(I usually write in third, too, I’m pretty bad at first.)
Sage sat in the corner of the room in a chair by a small table, sneakers kicked up onto it. Her fingers tapped on her thigh as she blared music through her headphones, skimming through The Book Thief, a favorite book of hers.
(yeah I can't do first person, it throws stuff way out of wack for me lol)
(Same, but I'll try first just this once so the character stays more like me and doesn't decide to take a life of her own.)
I muttered angrily when I yet again couldn't find the book I was searching for, and I settled for another classic I hadn't read yet.
(lol yeah that's why I'm doing it in first person too)
After redrawing the chest of the character for the fifth time, they angrily erased it and faceplanted into the comic book with a sigh. "I swear I can't draw anything right," they muttered, sitting back in the chair and fiddling with the volume on their headphones
Sage dropped the book onto her chest, switching her phone on to fiddle with a playlist, full mostly of Hispanic songs or the occasional Eminem song. Finding a song she liked, she turned the volume up. Then, she grew self conscious that everyone around her could hear it coming from her ear buds, so she turned it back down slightly.
(should someone be sitting by another character so we can get some dialogue or nah?)
I subconsciously started doing the salsa with my feet. Not too obviously, but my foot went back and forth. Why am I… oh. Someone's music. Now I felt stupid. I stilled my feet and reached into the bookcase, pulling out a book.
I grabbed a few books I had intended to read and sat down next to someone who had a stack of mainly comic books.
Connor glanced over to his side, seeing someone getting a book. They dragged their sketchbook and collection of comics a little closer to themselves, subconsciously worried they would be judged for having so many comics in a library of all places
I noticed out of the corner of my eye that Connor had pulled their sketchbook closer, but I paid them no mind and opened one of the books I had picked up, Fahrenheit 451.
(I LOVE FAHRENHEIT 451)
I walked past someone with a sketchbook and a girl reading… Ahh, Fahrenheit 451! "It's a good book," I said quietly, smiling.
I looked up and nodded in agreement.
(Me too! I need to read it again!)
Connor, upon hearing Fahrenheit 451 through their headphones, immediately took one out. "Hey, um. I'm a big Bradbury fan," they said, awkwardly pushing their badly fitted glasses back into place
(I'm actually naming my pet snake Monty after Montag in 451 lol)
(Tbh if I wasn't so insecure I would stand on a table singing at the top of my lungs)
(Gah! I'm here. Sorry, I had to pick my sis up.)
Humming Stuck on the Outside from If the Shoe Fits, I searched the aisles of the Junior Fiction section, hoping that no one would find it odd. I skimmed the books, then decided to go find one that I knew would never fail me: The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale.
"Did you guys see the trailer for the new 451 movie coming out?" I asked, hoping I didn't seem dumb for striking up a conversation with them.
"There's a movie coming out?" I asked. I closed the book partially, using my hand to hold my place.
"Wait, there's a new one coming out?!" Connor asked, voice raising a little too high for a library
I smiled at their enthusiasm, matching it. "Yes!! It's starring Michael B. Jordan. As in, Killmonger from Black Panther."
(mouth hangs open GOOSE GIRL? i'M LITERALLY READING THAT BOOK RIGHT NOW)
"Nice. I'll have to look it up later. And finish reading this book before it comes out," I replied, motioning towards the book I held closed.
I sang a little louder, not realizing of course, as always, singing a different song. "Sweet hour of prayer, sweet hour of prayer……that calls….me from…….a world………of cares……"
"It looks pretty good," I said, still smiling. "Enjoy the rest of the book. My siblings and I were going to read it for our book club, but I was the only one who actually read it."
"I've read it before… It's just that books sometimes don't stick with me the first time- not even the good ones."
Sage heard voices through her music. She turned it down a bit more, able to make out some of the words. She kept it like that, being someone who tended to ‘people watch’ quite often.
