"I just think it's what's best for you dearest! You know Ashley is the heir to one of the most powerful kingdoms on the continent. In the whole world, even. We need this alliance if you want to be able to rule one day," said Queen Lizelda, grimacing as her daughter, princess Azoni, scowled at her.
"That's bullshit and you know it, Mom! We're perfectly strong on our own, and if we needed an alliance we certainly wouldn't need one with that bitc-"
"Language!" Lizelda chided, staring reproachfully at her daughter. Azoni only pressed on.
"Come on, Mom! I'm seventeen, shouldn't I be… living my life? Not just wasting away in a marriage with someone you know I hate?"
Lizelda sighed. "You are young, but that is no excuse for you to avoid responsibility! You will marry her, and that is final!"
(oof this was long af. also, goodnight! sleep well)
(you do not have to answer but this is going up before i fall asleep)
Ashley was called to the queens chambers. this was weird because her mother usually never let her come into her chambers unless…oh no. her mother was going to start talking about marriage and how it is her duty and she didn't need any of her bullshit today of all days.
instead of going to her mother Ashley climbed out of her bed room window not realizing that there were people below her. she hit the bottom and was glad for all the training that she has done or she would have fallen right on her butt and probably broken something. also is was not a good idea to wear a dress but luckily it was on that was loose but snug and not to long that she would trip on.
Azoni tore out of her mother's chambers, ignoring Lizelda's orders to return. She'd had quite enough of her mother's orders today, thank you very much. Instead, she sprinted into her chambers, ripping off the dress her servants had laced her into and replacing it with more sensible clothes: her most comfortable trousers, a grey tunic, and her favorite riding boots.
From there she stormed out of the castle and into the stable, disturbing one of the squires who had been tending the horses. He was barely able to squeak out a quiet 'm-my lady' before Azoni began expertly saddling her favorite horse, a roan mare named Rose. Soon she had heaved herself onto the saddle and begun riding into the nearest town she could find. Damn her mother and damn this marriage.
(sorry about not responding, I fell asleep)
Ashley looked around looking for people she recognized. when she saw nobody she ran to the castle gates telling the guards to open the gates and let her out. they were hesitant then she barked her order again and they rushed to do it. when she got out the gates closed behind her and she went to town to help out.
(sorry i was on a class trip for the last week of school.)
(np! I was busy for a while too, srry for the wait)
Azoni road into town, stopping to grab enough food to fuel a few days of travel, and rode to the farthest town she could find on the map. She was going to show her mother that she was serious about escaping this marriage, and the best way to do that was to disappear for a few days. Plus, she needed to blow off steam. If she had to take one more etiquette class, she was going to do something stupid.
she made it to the town looking around for a job to do. she gave some small orders to help out the pore and get them food and water and then some new clothes with the money that she gave them. when she walked by a store she stopped to look around for things to get people. she wanted to show her mother how she could help and that she didn't need to be married. she had some money left but by some she means a lot. she bought horse food and other clothing. she was going to take a trip and not just for a few hours it was going to take a few days to get as far from home as possible and be left alone.
Azoni stopped for a break in a meadow a few miles into Ashley's kingdom, tying her horse's reins to a nearby tree and wandering a short ways into the forest. It was quiet except for the faint sounds of birds and crickets, with the soft trickle of a stream nearby. She located it quickly, gratefully sipping from it's waters. It was hot and the ride had been unforgiving to say the least, so she felt no shame in stripping down to her underwear and hopping into the river that was feeding it.
Ashley waited for dark to come. then setting out but before she got far she saw a shadow out of the corner of her eye.
(srry that it's short.)
(np. They're in the same spot right?
(yes)
(okay, cool! just trying to make sure.)
Azoni lounged around in the river for a few minutes before she began to hear something approaching her river. Thinking it was a deer or maybe something bigger, she didn't bother to throw on her clothes. She just grabbed the knife from her belt and stalked towards what seemed to be the source of the noise. Unfortunately, it was a hot girl.
well this couldn't any worse or better which one? there was a cute and pretty girl in front of Ashley naked and with a knife but she did have a dagger in her boot and two knives at her hips so there was that. anyway Ashley immediately looked away but grabbed for one of her own knives trying not to be weird about it but it still was. she grabbed it in her hand and turned back around looking at the ground.
"mind if you put on some clothing?" she asked with a blush but nobody could see in this darkness.
Azoni could feel her face flush cherry red as she realized she had just stalked up to this chick in nothing but her boyshorts. Instead of backing off the way she probably should've, she put a hand on her hip and made a shooing motion with her knife hand. "No, I don't! What are you even doing out here? This is practically the middle of nowhere, I thought I was all alone."
well this was so awkward thought Ashley. "well then…i am out here because i needed to get away from…home" deciding not to tell her that she is a princess but she probably could tell anyways."and honestly i thought that i was going to be alone to this is were i go to cool off." she said so matter of fact."what are you doing here?"
Azoni narrowed her eyes in suspicion, giving the girl a once over before deciding she could probably handle herself if anything happened. She put her knife back in her belt and turned back to the mystery girl with a frown. "I was traveling up to Donington," she said, referencing a town a few miles from here. "Ride was hot as hell so I decided to cool off in the river over there." She gestured to the river flowing steadily behind her.
Ashley followed were she was pointing and realized that is were she was going to be heading soon and farther. she still had her knife out but probably wasn't going to need it. she stuffed her knife back into her belt. "oh well i was going the same way but i am only stopping there for a little bit and going a bit further." she says walking around the girl to get a drink out of the water but decided against it because there might be something in it. so she through it on her face instead and letting it seep into her skin and refresh her. she stood and was walking back to her horse."good luck on your trip." giving the girl a wave and looked her over for the first time. she was cute, in many ways. god why was she thinking of this when they were only passing.
As Azoni watched the girl hop up onto her horse, she realized it might be helpful if they traveled together. The road to Donington was notorious for its bandits and slavers, and the last thing she needed was for one of them to notice her and hold her for ransom. It would be a pain for her to escape from, and- even worse- it would all but prove to her mother that he needed a spouse to look after her.
"Wait!" She yelled, scrambling backward to yank on her pants and tunic before the strange girl rode away. "Want to ride down there together? The road's fucking dangerous and It'd be nice to have someone to watch your back."
Ashley was already on her horse about to walk away when the girl yelled wait it spooked her horse just a little bit and it also spooked her. "hm the roads are pretty bad and it would be nice to have some company… sure i will ride with you but first you have to give me your name and no lies." she says not really willing to leave without some help. the girl comes back with clothing and it was kind of sad to see that but ashley was also glad.
"Az!" Azoni yelled, yanking on her boots and re-buckling her belt. It wasn't a lie; not really. Everyone Azoni had ever met called her Az. Even her stuffy as hell etiquette teacher called her Az, even though it had been a journey to get her there. She untied her horse and heaved herself onto the saddle, patting its ears comfortingly when it seemed understandably spooked by her yelling. "What's your name?"
"hello Az, i am guessing that is short for something but that's good. my name is ash and it is short for a different name." not giving all but close enough. she made sure that she was comfortable enough and started to walk at a slow pace. most people would have told her she was not going to make it far for a princess but she had a good feeling about this trip.
"Nice to meet you Ash!" Azoni cheered, urging her horse to walk faster. Once she was confident she could keep pace with her newfound partner, she tried to strike up a polite conversation. Something not too touchy but also interesting. Unfortunately, nothing came to mind, so she defaulted to her normal 'I'm quietly trying to scope out who you are' question. "What are you going to do once you get to Donington?"
"i will be heading farther then Donington but when i get there i am planning on helping anybody i can and get away from a forced marriage." that was probably i little to much information but it was some of the truth and he was glad to get it off her back. "how bout you what are you going to do or are you like me running from something that you don't want?"ashley is curious in what this girl has to say
"Same as you! Mom was going to force me into a marriage with someone I fucking hate so I just kinda ran away. She's deluding herself if she thinks I'm ever going to be forced into a marriage I don't want." Azoni scowled at the thought. She wasn't even sure she wanted to get married, and mom was deluding herself if she thought she could force Azoni into anything. "I'm not sure if I'm going to stay in Donington or move on. Hell, I don't even know if I'm going to go home again. Do you know what you're doing?"
"if i may ask what is this someones name?"she thought about it it seemed like there was a chance…no that wouldn't be right would it? "i don't think i will come home for a while but i will stay away until i can figure out a plan at least that is my plan so far. it's not a good one but whatever screw it." it was easy to talk to this person that she just met. "i also hate this person that my mother is forcing me to marry." i say not actually meaning to say it out loud.
(my parents might turn off the wifi so if i don't answer i will try to get to you as soon as possible)
(All good, thanks for keeping this up!)
Azoni laughed. "Guess we really are in the same boat, huh? No luck, no plans, and running away from marriages we hate. Maybe girls like us were meant to stick together." She carefully avoided the first question, knowing there was no way in hell Ash wouldn't remember the name of the queen ruling the kingdom she'd be marrying into. She half wanted to gallop off right now to avoid running her mouth any more, but something held her back. She really didn't want to ditch Ash, and… fuck it, she was starting to have a bit of a crush on her.
ashley looks over at this girl next to her. "what is your mother like?" not even realizing that she had not answered the first question but not really caring much."yeah maybe we are supposed stick together." she says with a slight smile on her face. she made her horse go a little bit faster wanting something to do.
(your welcome.)
Azoni sped her horse up as well, noticing that they had left the forest far behind. It looked like they were really out on the open road now, which meant the risk of an attack was getting higher by the second. "Mom's… well, she's my mom, you know? She's nice, I guess, but also really strict and crazy protective over me even though she's never taken the time to really know me and I just wish she'd give me some space. What about you? What's your mom like?"
