"I'm really glad I didn't hook up with a random stranger while drunk," Jess said, nodding along. "Yeah, okay it's coming back to me now. This was Micheal's apartment, but you moved in here, I ran here in a panic, you opened the door while I was leaning on it, you were really pretty–" Jess stopped abruptly. Did she seriously just say that? Oh god, what was wrong with her. "I mean that's not what I meant. I mean you are really pretty, but I didn't mean . . . um . . . " Jess was just digging herself deeper into this hole and decided to stop talking.
"Thanks, I think you are quite pretty to." Crys said and smiled. "Oh, I think I could get you michael's address, I was given a paper on where to send any of his mail that was sent here. I could look for it and give it to you." She offered and got up.
Jess choked on nothing and started coughing. "Um, yeah, yeah, that would be great. Thanks." Jess smiled. 'Oh my god oh my god oh my god she called me pretty."
"Alright and you're welcome." Crys said and walked out of the room to find the slip of paper that was somewhere. After a minute or two though she found it on her bed side table and went back to the kitchen. "Here you go."
As soon as Crys left (her name had come back to her) Jess scrambled for a piece of paper and a pen. Before she could lose her nerve, she wrote her number and her name down on the paper, then put it under Crys's mug. She took the paper when Crys handed it to her. "Thank you." She pulled out her phone and texted the address to herself, then gave the paper back to Crys. "So I should probably get out of your hair," she said reluctantly.
Crys nodded. "Alright, that's fine. Honestly I didn't mind." She said and smiled then sat back down in a chair. "Have a nice day though."
Jess nodded and smiled. "You too." In truth, she didn't want to leave, but she was fairly sure that she had overextended her welcome, so she stood to leave.
"You could knock on my door any time you need help." Crys said and laughed. Then noticed the paper but didn't say anything about it.
Jess smiled. "Thanks. See you around." She put her phone in her pocket and walked out of the apartment. She blinked in the insanely bright sunlight, hoping Crys would call her.
Crys put the phone number into her phone and decided it was probably too early to call so she decided to get ready for her classes and do homework.
Jess flopped down in her bed in her own apartment. She pulled out her phone and called Micheal. "So, you moved."
"Oh. Shit. Yeah, I did. Did you try to go over there?"
"Yup. Completely hammered."
"Jess, what happened?"
Jess sighed. He knew her too well. "I got back together with amy (the most wonderful woman in the world) earlier this week, she dragged me to a party, it didn't go well, and I ran to the safest place I knew."
"Oh Jess, you didn't."
"I know, I know." Jess was in no mood for a lecture. "But luckily, the new girl who lives there was really sweet and let me crash. She was also really really cute."
She could practically hear Micheal smiling over the phone. "She sounds like a keeper. Hey Jess, I gotta go to work, but don't talk to amy (the most wonderful woman in the world) again, okay?"
"I won't. I promise. Bye Micheal."
"Bye."
Jess sighed and watched her phone, hoping it would ring.
Crys went to her class that was all the way back on campus, it was boring as ever. After she got out of class on her way back to home she pulled out her phone and called Jess.
Jess was running when her phone rang. She felt the buzz of her phone against her hip and stopped, pulling it out. She walked over to the closest bench as she answered the call. “Hello?”
"Hi, it's Crys. I hope it's alright, me calling." She said to the phone as he walked down the street home.
“Yeah! Yeah it’s more than alright!” Jess breathed heavily, trying to catch her breath. “How are you?”
"alright, and good." Crys said smiling as she spoke though jess could not see it. "What about you?"
"Good. A little out of breath," she added. Jess was starting to get her breath back, so she stood up and started walking, not wanting her body to cool down too much.
"Why are you out of breath?" She asked questioningly.
"I was running. I do a lot of sports, so I have to run a lot. I don't know, I like it." She continued to breathe deeply. "Do you do any sports?"
"No, I don't really ever do any sports. Maybe I will someday though. But it sounds like I am interrupting you…" She said to her.
"No, it's fine. I don't have any classes today, so I can run at any time. So," her voice took on a slightly more flirty tone. "Did you call me for any particular reason?"
"Do I have to have a particular reason to call you?" She replied in an equal tone. "I just called you to call you."
Jess was speechless for a brief moment. "You don't need a reason. Not many people call me without a reason, so I was just wondering," she said, her smile showing through in her voice. "I'm glad you called, though. I was hoping you would."
"Well it seems your hope has been fulfilled." She replied smiling, "So other than working out what are you doing?" She asked.
"Well, I'm actually walking right now. Running and talking is a little difficult. I'm also talking to a really cute girl." Jess paused, chewing on her lip. Was she actually going to do this? "Um, this is kind of random, but would you want to meet me for dinner or something?" Oh man, she was doing this.
Crys blushed when she was called cute, probably because the girl saying it was cuter. "Sure, I'd love to meet you for dinner or something." She said with a small laugh.
"Really?" Jess asked, a little surprised. "I mean good. Perfect. Does tomorrow night work?" she asked, looking both ways before crossing the street.
"Yes it doesn. I will see you soon then."
"Okay meet me in front of the Starbucks at the edge of campus, the one near the Biology building. Do you know which one I'm talking about?" Jess asked. She had said it so quickly, realizing they were close to hanging up without a location in mind.
"Sounds great. I'll see you there tomorrow night, Jess." Crys said to her totally forgetting that a location to meet was needed.
