"Yes!" He looked Firiko up and down, trying to work out the easiest way to do this. "So… like a piggy back ride?"
"Yes!" He looked Firiko up and down, trying to work out the easiest way to do this. "So… like a piggy back ride?"
Firiko padded up next to him, moving his wings out of the way, "Slide on behind my wings.."
Jaoel carefully obeyed, gripping Firiko's shoulders and gripping his waist with his knees. "Is this alright?"
(He's in wolf form)
Firiko nodded, wings ruffling around the other as he padded off.
(oah I forgot sorry!)
Jaoel sat on the wolf's back, hands lightly digging into his fur. The movement was smooth and regular, very unlike riding a horse which was what Jaoel had been expecting. Firiko was also much faster, though Jaoel doubted if that was his human strength combined with his wolf's or the incredible speed with which they shot through the forest applied to all wolves.
(No worries! Not the first time that's happened..)
Firiko kept it to an easy lope, one he could keep up for days if necessary, his wings folded tightly against his sides, and against the other as he loped through the underbrush.
(Oof I'm sorry I'll try and keep track)
The trees flashed alongside them in spurts of green, slowly giving way to clearer paths and houses in the distance, indicating they were approaching the village on whose outskirts they had met.
(oh god is that even english)
(Don't worry, if you need a signal for when he shifts, I change wording, (Padded,) and always use the term "Shift" for a shift in form… I rarely use that word for anything else, and if I do it will be specified.)
Firiko slowed a bit when they broke free of the trees and came upon the village, "So, which way do we go?" he asked.
(ooOh I hadn't picked up on that, thanks)
Jaoel slid off of Firiko's back and looked out into the village, still teeming with people. "If you want to avoid the crowds we can go around to on of the side streets," he offered, trying to map out the way in his mind.
(Glad to help)
Firiko shifted back to human form when Jaoel slipped off, "It's alright, we should take the fastest route, crowds or not.."
"Alright." The first thing he had spotted was how wild the movement of the crowds was, and Jaoel instinctively took hold of Firiko's hand before walking into the village, so they wouldn't get separated.
Firiko blinked in surprise when the other took his hand, but didn't question as he let the other lead him through the crowds, keeping his wings close to avoid hitting anyone.
They weaved through performers and noblemen, the occasional child recognising Jaoel as the entertainer and pointing with a giggle.
They finally reached a small stone cabin tucked between to grandly built taverns spilling noise out into the streets.
Firiko studied the crowds with interest, careful to keep an eye on where Jaoel was as he kept pace with the other.
Here and there, stares were aimed at Firiko's wings, most of them heavy with judgement.
Jaoel stopped walking, sticking his tongue out at a woman who attempted to approach and scold him for bringing a creature into town.
He turned to face the stone cabin and raptly knocked on the warped wood door.
Firiko shrugged, putting up a good show of being oblivious to all the weird stares. "Honestly, anyone ever thing that maybe I didn't ask to be what I am?"
Jaoel tutted at Firiko. "Ignore them. They aren't used to physically-visible powers."
After a second knock, the door to the cabin swung open. In its doorway stood a purple-skinned young woman with frizzy white hair. "Welcome, freaks!" she greeted loftily.
Jaoel nodded a hello.
Firiko frowned, "I prefer the term, uniquely gifted" he said, not at all a fan of being called a freak.
"No one asked you, half-breed," the woman grinned brightly, tilting her head to look at Firiko over Jaoel's shoulder. "Come on in." She backed into her doorway.
Firiko shrugged, "Eh, at least it's accurate.." he said.
Jaoel led Firiko into the dimly lit, single-roomed circular cabin. The walls were lined all around with shelves upon shelves of glowing, bubbling, gurgling, metallic, colourful, transparent liquids all poured into identical glass vials. A set of comfortable-looking armchairs stood in the centre of the room and Jaoel went to sit.
But the woman stopped him with a forceful shove to his chest.
"You and your disgusting friend will not take a seat in my workplace," she said sweetly.
Firiko growled at that. "You care to rephrase that ma'am? I don't take kindly for being called that.."`
The woman looked over to Firiko with wide, innocent eyes. "Please don't address me directly, creature," she said in a childlike tone.
She then turned to Jaoel, who was staring daggers at her. "Leave him alone or I spread the news that you don't deliver."
Firiko glared at her. "I am not a creature. Halfbreed maybe, but not a creature." he growled, his wings puffing up angrily.
Jaoel held up a hand to calm Firiko down. He turned to face him. "Listen. She's the only one who can help us. Maybe you should wait outside?" he asked softly, apologetically.
"It's alright, just get this over with.." said Firiko, forcing himself to calm down.
"Alright, okay."
He turned away from Firiko, placing himself in a slightly protective stance. The woman smirked at Jaoel, all pretense of kindess gone. "What do you want?"
"A way to get to the Neric," Jaoel stated simply.
The woman's eyes widened and her smile fell. "Are you insane?" she hissed. "Is this for him?" she asked, gesturing to the halfbreed. "Are you getting him back home? Because it that's it, Jay, save yourself. He isn't worth the trip."
Jaoel shushed her, flinching at the nickname. "Not now," he muttered. "Just give me what I need, Kui. Give it to me and we'll be out of your hair."
She stared sadly at Jaoel, then back at Firiko. This time her glare was truly angry. "Get him killed and I'll come after you," she spat in his face, sending a wave of pain crashing down on him through her empath powers.
She went to shelf and, grabbing a vial of a thick chine blue liquid, tossed it to Jaoel.
"I don't want to see you again until he's gone," she told him harshly, and shoved both boys out of her cabin.
Firiko winced, and he summoned a Spirit shield to block her out. "Why the hell would I hurt him?" he asked, watching through the silvery red shield before they were shoved outside. Once outside he dropped the shield cautiously.
Gripping the vial, Jaoel stood stiffly on her doorstep. "Alright," he sighed. "That's done. Sorry about her."
Firiko nodded, "Lovely friend.." he said wryly.
