I don't have a specific plot in mind, but maybe for the type of universe it could be a The Giver /1984 type thing?

Ooh okay. There was this one story I started writing but never finished, maybe we recycle the idea? It wouldn't be dystopia anymore but it could still be interesting.

Alright so. You're leading a normal life. Enter a new character, who randomly gives you an object (in my case it was a rubber bouncy ball). You think nothing of it and pocket it. You forget about it.
Something happens and this object opens a portal that you get trapped in, and you're in another universe! The only familiar thing you see is the rubber ball.
That's the base idea. I had a whole plot hashed out but I guess it'll be more fun if we come up with a new one
