"Oh come on Teo, I just want to feed you and let you spread your wings."
Brom said almost pleadingly to the great red dragon. He set the reigns on a hook outside the enormous metal grate and searched his belt for the cage's keys. He snatched the key ring and inserted the copper metal into the lock. Brom slowly slid the grate open with a grunt, and left it partially open, so that only the boy could escape if need be. Teothian still huddled in the corner of the stable, snarling and flicking his wings. The Sage boy poured the water into the dragon's trough, and tossed the meat into another. The great beast still glared at him with disdain and mistrust.
"Look. No weapons." Brom said, spreading his muscled arms in the dark air.

The boy no longer having the equipment in his hand, Emberinth let his glare soften a tad. He inched his way carefully towards the food, letting his hunger take control. He took the meat only to take it between his talons and begin ripping it apart. There was the occasional crunch of bone that seemed to unsettle most. He let out a deep rumble of pleasure. That was one thing the Sage boy understood. Fresh prey was an irreplaceable taste dragons preferred. It nearly made Emberinth grin as a shiver came down Brom's spine for a quick moment. Focusing back on his meal, the fact that Brom was there to take him for a ride temporarily slipped his mind. When finished, the dragon licked his lips and carefully drank from the pool of water. It was refreshing for a much colder refill of the liquid. The only issue he had at the moment was that his attention was off of the Sage boy, giving the human a chance to do what he came for.

@CharBar

Mother Sage had always taught her children to never be crude with their work. If they had to kill someone in battle, then they should make it as quick and painless as possible. Superstition mostly, but also part courtesy on the battlefield. Obviously the dragon had no ideas of battle courtesy, and ripped the fresh meat open with his copper talons, tearing tendons and snapping bones. Brom shivered. With Teothian finally relaxing a bit to sip from the fresh trough, Brom carefully slipped his arm outside the metal grate and grasped the reigns. Maybe the dragon just needed some fresh air under his wings to get him in better spirits. Brom crept his way around Teopthian's head, careful to stay out of his line of vision, and opened the clasps on the neck brace of the reigns. The sound was a lot louder than he wanted it to be. The great beast stopped drinking.

Emberinth froze both hearing the click of the fastener and the sudden stiffness he felt. Emberinth let out a deep growl once more, eyes landing on the Sage boy. He shouldn't have let his guard down. He shouldn't have looked away. He shouldn't have trusted a human.
"Take. It. Back. Off," the dragon spoke, though it probably still sounded like more nonsense to the human. Thinking a moment, he might have scared the boy with his hostile approach. He scooted closer to the grate to block most of it. He then sank to the floor and tried to show his distaste for the material.
"Please."

(Sorry, I've been gone for a while.)

Light flashed through the dark cave, showing the dark form of a dragon, asleep on the floor, curled in a tight ball. The dragon, still and silent, would twitch every once in a while, as though in a bad dream.

Peril was flying as fast as she could. Which wasn't very fast, in the dream. She was flying from something always in her mind, something she wished she could forget. The sounds of battle echoed around, and seemed to penetrate into her very brain, ringing and rolling until it was almost unbearable. The sky, once a bright blue color, was tinged with crimson, and the fields below her were strewn with bodies.
War.
The thing most loved, and some hated.
War.
The scent of blood, shouts and screams of pain.
War.
The seed of new worlds.
The thing that had killed everyone she loved, and left her in this hole.

Mre peeked his head into the cave, having heard some sort of thrashing. "Are you okay?" He called out into the cavern, he wasn't even sure if dragons could understand him, but he was doing it anyway. "I got you some food." He added on, hoping that would wake the dragon up from her obvious nightmare. He ran out and quickly grabbed the meat he had gotten at the butcher's shop, setting it down at the mouth of the cave, maybe the smell alone would wake her up.

@PrettyLittlePyro

Peril awoke suddenly. She smelled meat, and her eyes opened, glowing bright red. She sat up, her large wings wrapped tight around her as though she could protect herself from the nightmares that plagued her. She moved towards the meat, shaking sleep from her body.

"Are you alright?" He asked in a small voice, keeping a pretty far distance from the large dragon. Mre knew that the dragon couldn't answer him, but he was going to ask anyhow. "I bought you some beef, I'm not sure what type of meat you like best so I just got a generic kind."

@PrettyLittlePyro

Peril glanced at him, then moved over and started to eat. It tasted old, and filled with grossness, as though someone had added dried grass and then left it out for birds to poop on. But it was food.

@CharBar

The world seemed to tilt. Was it just him, or was it getting a little hard to breathe? Was he the only one who’s knees had turned to pudding? When did his heart start beating so fast? Was it just Brom, or did his dragon just speak?
Teothian crouched by the gateway, blocking any escape. Instinctively, Brom reached for his twin swords, only to remember he had left them in his quarters. His breathing quickened.
Dragons don’t talk.
They snarl, growl, hiss, roar, purr, and caw.
Nothing competent, nothing humans could understand.
Brom slowly turned his head to meet Teothian’s gaze. The dragon’s brilliant green eyes bore into his soul. Anger. Betrayal. Pleading.
The Sage boy took a cautious step towards the magnificent beast, instincts be damned, and then another until he was about arms length away from Teothian’s snout. The hot breath of blood and meat caressed the boy’s face.
Brom’s heart deflated like some small balloon.
The dragon was not the monster.
He sank to his knees and reached for the clasp to the reigns.

@Painted-Iris group

Emberinth's eyes widened at the boy kneeling before him. He had expected something much worse to happen for some reason. Or rather, nothing at all. He almost felt bad for the young boy. The closer Brom was, the more uneasy he felt, but the dragon allowed him to remove the equipment.
When the harness fell, he gave the human's hand a gentle nudge with his snout. He gave a thankful hum before speaking again. "Thank you. I hoped this time my voice would reach you. It seems it has."
The dragon shifted as to not be entirely in the way. "I will not hurt you, child. I am just grateful you understand what is truly going on here," Emberinth added. It seemed that Brom was trembling almost.

(um I feel like that's a bit exaggerative seeing as it might only be like a day old… at most it would be a bit stale to Peril)

@CharBar

The great red dragon’s voice seemed to reverberate in Brom’s skull. When Teothian pressed his snout to the boy’s hand, it occurred to him that his is the first time the dragon had shown any form of affection towards him. Brom was suddenly painfully aware of his own trembling and attempted to calm himself, failed, and instead tried to occupy his shaky hands with picking at his filthy nails.
He took a deep breath, his mouth gaping like a fish out of water before his mustered the courage to speak,”I’m sorry.”
Brom failed to find his words again, seemingly losing them in the dragon’s vibrant eyes.
I’m so sorry.”

(That's okay @Cupcake-Filled-With-Thumbtacks. I'm probably going to let the rp die seeing as no one is able to be active, as well as I'm unmotivated to write due to issues in life. Sorry everyone.)

@CharBar

(darn, hey i mean it was fun while it lasted and it helped me develop the idea of Brom a little bit more. Thanks iris)
