Salaa came out. "Hello. Are you an elf?"
Salaa came out. "Hello. Are you an elf?"
Tolkalee nodded. "I'm a full elf, he's a half elf, my name's Tolkalee, that is Seth, " Seth waved at them. "What're your names?"
Salaa looked up at him with big eyes. "I'm Salaa and my sister is in the closet. Her name is Amana."
"It's nice to meet you," Tolkalee held his hand out to the small girl.
Salaa shook it with a giggle. You're so nice, Aidar observe inside her head.
"You two look cold, would you like me to start a fire. We have some bread that we can toast over it," Seth offered.
Salaa turned to him. "Thank you." She tugged her sister from the closet. "Come on, Mana."
Seth set up a fire and started trying to light it. Tolkalee gave Amana a small smile and a greeting nod. "So what brings you two all the way out here?" He asked.
Amana stared coldly at them. Salaa nudged her, then turned to the others. "We ran away," she told them.
"From what? If you don't mind my asking?" He was looking specifically at Amana.
Amana ignored him, so Salaa spoke. "Mom sold us to a bunch of people who gave us superpowers and friends, and then Mana helped me get away because my friend was going crazy and trying to kill everybody."
Tolkalee crouched down to look at Salaa. "I'm so sorry to hear that," he looked up at Amana. "I know the feeling of bad parents."
Amana scoffed at him. "You do? Do you know how it feels to be sold to perverts and assholes and have a fucking death spirit inserted into your head? Do you?"
"I know the feeling of a mother who pretends you don't exist, and a father that tried to have us executed," he stood up again.
Amana rolled her eyes. "I have a fucking spirit in my head fighting for control."
"I didn't say I can relate to you, I said I can relate to bad parents," Tolkalee said calmly.
Amana snorted and turned away. Salaa looked at the elf man. "Sorry about Amana," she said. "She's just crabby."
"No, she's fine. Do you have somewhere to go?" He asked.
Salaa shook her head. "No. The storm stopped us. We were just trying to get away as fast as we could."
Tolkalee thought for a moment, then he turned and made eye contact with Seth. He instantly knew what Tolk was gonna say. "No," he said.
"Why not?" Tolkalee asked.
"They're kids," he said. "They do not need to be pulled into that."
Salaa titled her head. "What are you talking about?" Her hands lit up, shining patterns on the ceiling.
"We might have somewhere you can go…. you're glowing," Tolkalee looked at her hands. Almost startled.
"Well, yeah," Salaa looked at him. "My hands can give off heat and light."
Tolkalee smiled. "That's a special gift you have there." He stood up again and motioned for her to follow. "Let me show you two something."
Salaa started to follow, but Amana pulled her back. "What are you doing?" She hissed.
Tolkalee stopped and looked at Amana. "I want to show you something, both of you," he explained calmly. "You don't have to trust me, just follow."
Amana scowled. Salaa grabbed her sister's hand and followed the elf.
He walked through the cabin to a carpet. He then turned towards the girls and knelt over the carpet. "What I'm about to show you is magical," he said looking at Salaa. Then he pulled the carpet away to reveal a trap door. He pulled it open and climbed down the ladder. Lifting one hand above the floor to motion for them to follow.
Salaa followed. Aidar grumbled. I'm bored. You're always bored, Salaa said.
Tolkalee stood at the bottom of the ladder and offered a hand to help them down. The room was dark, the only like coming from Tolkalee's crystal necklace.
