"How so? The sneaking around part, that is? I've never felt more exposed in my life," Septima admitted.
"How so? The sneaking around part, that is? I've never felt more exposed in my life," Septima admitted.
Skye grinned, "That's what makes it fun!" He said, "besides I don't know about you, But I'm going to explore the castle grounds tonight."
“Sure, but it’s probably better if I come with you. It won’t look great just having some advisor snooping around,” Septima replied.
"Who said anything about you doing the snooping?" He said.
“I’m not saying I will, but it could… look bad, you know?” Septima said, “I kind of don’t belong here at all.”
"Your job is making friends with the servants." said Skye, "Help them out, and be nice. Technically you're supposed to be far above their rank, but they'll accept you better than a royal."
“I’m not great at the whole friends thing, but I can try,” Septima promised, “Especially if we’re just talking about befriending servants and not the bigwigs.”
"Just befriending servants." said Skye, "Just be careful you don't blow our cover."
"Of course not. There's nothing I want to say to people who want us dead that would clue in to who we really are," Septima replied, "I can pretend to be all nice and friendly without spilling crucial details."
"Good" said Skye, mmoving to inspect the suite.
"The stakes seem pretty high on this one," Septima said as she began investigating, "They find out, we go to jail or die, or maybe worse."
(It looks awesome! (I'm jealous of your abilities))
"The stakes seem pretty high on this one," Septima said as she began investigating, "They find out, we go to jail or die, or maybe worse."
"That would be why we have Arthur as backup." said Skye, "He can get both of us out and take on the guards if need be."
(Thank you!!! I had a really hard time getting an image of him down on paper, so I'm really glad to get good feedback!)
"Right," Septima said, "but it would be nice if it didn't have to come to that. Besides, if our cover gets blown before we find what we need, the mission's done for."
"Which is why you have the two of us." said Skye, "If our cover gets blown, depending on how it gets blown, the two of us combining our abilities might be able to salvage the mission,"
"Perhaps. If mine gets blown, you should be able to play it off as me being a treacherous, spying servant, but if it's you… well, that could complicate things a bit more," Septima replied.
She bent down to fix her shoe.
"So, what're we doing?"
"Well for one we need to figure out where most of the prisons for our kind are," said Skye, "Secondly we want to weaken the fighting forces of the kingdom so ours can make a stand."
"Yeah, but it's all baby steps," Septima said, "I guess for now it's all making light conversation and hoping things come up. Maybe eavesdropping when it's convenient…"
"Pretty much," said Skye, "I'll need to get a feel for the court, and remember all the lessons from Blaze and Romero….." he sighed.
Septima went to the window and peered outside.
“So, we gonna head out now or what?”
Skye smirked, "Thought you'd never ask." he said, heading over to the window and opening it with a flourish.
Septima sat on the windowsill with her legs dangling over the outer wall.
"This must be the courtyard."
She scanned the area. There was a narrow path paved with stones, running between trellises, hedges, and rose bushes. Towards the center, she thought she saw the path widen a bit.
Skye appeared in the othe window, his now dark eyes scanning the area. Soon he tested the ledge, slipping out like a cat. "I'm going to get an idea of the outside of the castle," he told Septima, "You check out the grounds, make note of any entrances, and exits." he said, before beginning to scale the wall. He climbed easily, three limbs always locked in place while the other moved.
“Got it. I’ve been keeping mental notes of every area we’ve been through so far,” she replied.
"Good" said Skye, turning to look back at her, "Make sure to be back by midnight" he said, before continuing to scale the roof.
"Right."
Septima slid out the window and started to investigate the gardens, seeing where each portion of the path led ahead of her.
Skye soon had himself on the roof, looking out over the night sky. humming to himself he began his rooftop walk, studying the view, and noting guard positions, as well as major exits.
Septima paced through the courtyard, carefully noting every twist and turn, up until she reached the center, where a large trellis formed a dome over the paved area. There were two benches positioned parallel to one another. She kept on another branch of the path until she reached a staircase that went down.
Septima slowly started to creep down the stairwell, then she heard screams from below. She reflexively pressed her body back against the wall. However, she continued forwards, making sure to check all of her surroundings to be sure she wasn't being followed. A wooden door barred with iron stood about thirty feet away. Through that door shone dim light- just enough to illuminate the silhouettes of a few guards. It looked like their barracks, probably. She focused a little more to see what was past them, and why there might be screaming. Even further across the room was a barred iron door that led into darker stone halls. It was likely a prison. Septima turned around and started back up into the garden; she had not intended to find this and would rather that no one confront her about poking her nose where it wasn't supposed to be.
(nice twist!)
Skye sighed, wandering aimlessly on the rooftops of the castle. He made sure to be silent, and out of sight, but boy was it quiet. Soon he came to the tall west tower, sighing he began scrambling up it's walls, hoping to get a good view.
