"Again. No. That would be rude." Said Skye, watching as Jackson came out again.
"Again. No. That would be rude." Said Skye, watching as Jackson came out again.
Weird that he asked us to come if we can't assist him with errands or anything. Why's he want us out here?
Septima crossed her arms. Something was quite unusual about this. She looked at Jackson to see if he had come out with some sort of product, but he must've already put it away. Perhaps Arthur had seen it at least.
Hey Arthur. What'd he come out to get? asked Skye,
He just bartered for crelith. said Arthur, In other words we just found our Alchemist.
We found an alchemist. There could be more, right?
Septima bit her lip.
Although, with any luck… we could destroy part of their vital team if we take him down. Not necessarily kill, but… you know.
I doubt that. said Arthur. *our sort tend to work alone. Sure there may be others in the city, but not around the palace.,
I wouldn't know much about alchemy, Septima admitted, Aurelius' mother, Cassia, dabbled in it, but that's about all of my exposure to alchemy.
She rubbed her hands together.
But that makes our job easier. We mess him up in some way, that's a huge setback.
Arthur sighed mentally. I think we might be adjusting our game plan. he said.
Skye nodded, yeah, seeing as Arthur is the only Alchemist here, and neither of us can read the texts, or understand the potions.
What are you suggesting we do? Septima asked, Is there a way for you to remain closer to us, Arthur, so you can read the texts and whatnot?
Not really… said Arthur, Not unless I switch places with Skye
You’re joking… How would you do that? Septima asked.
He's an illusion master. said Skye, And he knows how royalty works, maybe better than I do.
I'll come by your quarters tonight, and Skye and I will switch. Skye will set up base in the city, and I'll take the role of prince. The only hitch will be the fact that I'll have to masquerade under Skye's name. explained Arthur.
Alright then. Luckily they don't know Skye that well, so it shouldn't be too difficult, Septima said.
She had become a little fidgety and restless, but she had to convince herself it was okay and not say anything about her worries.
Skye sighed, It'll be fine Septima, Like I said, Arthur and I can both do either job, and it'll be easier for me to coach him on being a royal than for us to keep doing mind swaps to investigate all the alchemy related mumbo jumbo. And it'll be less risky.
Yeah. It’s just the actual act of switching. I don’t doubt that it’ll make things easier.
Septima continued after Jackson.
Skye nodded again and went silent, watching Jackson and the people around them for the rest of the day until they went back to the castle.
Once they were back at the castle, Septima asked Skye if he wanted to take a look at the book she’d found earlier. If he was leaving tonight, it would be now or never.
Skye nodded, Sure, but wait till we're back in our quarters. he said.
(Timeskip to then?)
(Yeah)
(Your turn)
Septima made sure to close and lock the chamber door behind Skye. She took the book from her bag and laid it down on the bed, flipping to some of the more unsavory pages.
“So this is what they think of us.”
Skye looked it over, shuddering a little bit. "That is just nasty…" he said, "Where'd you find it?"
“The library. I take it this type of indoctrination is pretty commonplace around here. I didn’t have to poke my nose anywhere I wasn’t supposed to to find it,” Septima explained.
Skye sighed, "Whelp, it is a good indication as to why they fear us…." he said sadly.
“Had we realized generations ago that this kind of stuff was out there, maybe none of this would be happening.”
Septima flipped through a few more pages.
“If nothing else, there’s some detailing on the torture, though I’m not sure it’s still in practice, considering the alchemy stuff they’ve probably been doing.”
Skye flipped through it some more, when he came to one of the back chapters he nearly dropped it in shock. "That's just horrid…. and I shouldn't be surprised but…" his voice was quiet.
“Yeah… it’s unsettling…” she agreed, “Part of me hopes they’ve turned to only power draining, but part of me thinks that could be worse.”
"Not what I meant," he said, showing her the book, "There's a whole chapter on how to be a wolf hunter."
“Oh… I must’ve missed that…” Septima murmured, “You’re right though. It’s horrid, but not surprising.”
She sighed softly.
“Who let this happen? We’re so much stronger than they are.”
"Who knows." said Skye with a shrug.
Suddenly the window opened, and a guy with a cloak, and a large pair of silver and violet dragon wings flew in.
Septima looked over towards the window and stumbled a few steps back.
“Good gods, you can’t keep scaring me like this.”
