I like all those ideas, and I'd like to add one more little one: Maybe have the ability to create a plural name in addition to a regular name for linking purposes? For instance, in one place, you may want to use the singular "pegasus" as a page link, but in another place, you may want to use the plural "pegasi." The markdown could be something simple, like adding an "s" after the final bracket. Just an idea.

A category for fashion would be neat! You could describe current fashion trends, historical fashion, the way it's affected by culture/religion/morals/etc, describe clothing/accessories by gender, all kinds of things like that!

@Sugar-Lover

I think it would be really cool if we could co write with the documents on this site. Like we can share them, and other people can see them, but only the person who created the document can edit it. If we could like send the document to someone so they can also edit it, it would be really helpful.

I’m pretty sure you can edit the categories by clicking the little toggle thing on the side of the page as you’re editing it.

I think they meant a page for fashion, like how we have pages for characters, buildings, and creatures. If that is want they mean, I agree with them. It would be neat.

Ah, ok. That would be pretty cool.

You could also possibly put "fashion" as a category in a "culture" page, which I think could be very useful. Have categories for traditional foods/mealtime, manners, fashion, art, architecture, customs, etc. Especially since, sometimes, cultures aren't necessarily connected to specific places or races.

Actually, I have a couple of other ideas. First off, let me say: I love the references functionality on the documents. I haven't played around too much with it yet, but I know it's awesome to be able to have a reference up without having an extra tab open. What I'd like to suggest is maybe adding this functionality to page editing? Oftentimes, I'll be editing one page, and will be heavily referencing another page that's connected to it, so I'll have that page open on a separate tab. Sometimes, I'll have multiple reference pages open at the same time (up to 3 or 4, or even 5 on occasion!) and it'd be nice to be able to have the reference open on the same tab, not only to keep my browser cleaner (I already have a bunch of tabs open, more often than not), but also so I don't have to keep clicking back and forth between tabs/pages.

Also, something I thought of recently, that I honestly probably should have come up with a long time ago: the ability to "pin" fields/pages that still need more editing. A lot of the time, I'll be editing a page that I don't quite have all the information for yet, but I know that information needs to be there (it often requires creating a new page or editing an existing one). Currently, when I run into this problem, I'll just write "MORE" somewhere in the field, maybe with some details on what, exactly. This works if/when I eventually go back to the page for some other reason, but more often than not, I forget it's there entirely. Being able to pin these spots, as well as possibly add descriptions as to why it was pinned in the first place, would be SUPER helpful. Then you could have a place somewhere on the site that shows all your pins, as well as descriptions if you have them, so you know what needs worked on. Maybe you could add a task list of some sort here, as well, for pages/elements you haven't created yet, but plan to in the future.

You could also integrate this into the "prompts" feature, which could also be very helpful. That way, instead of asking me what magic my Centaur Cabinets have (none, it's a cabinet), the prompts would suggest things I'd already been meaning to work on.

Oh, also, one more minor request: Could we have bullet points in documents in addition to numbered lists? Most of my documents are more idea-vomit pages (and a taxonomy list) rather than storyboarding or some such, so I don't really need numbered lists on those pages. This isn't an urgent request by any stretch of the imagination, just a little something that might be nice.

Well, this got a lot longer than I expected. Again. Oh well. Thanks again for all the work you do, andrew (Our Supreme Lord and Overseer)! I love this site!

I'm cataloging (and appreciating!) everyone's suggestions here, but just wanted to pop in and say documents do support bulleted/unordered lists now (as of last night). :)

Hello andrew (Our Supreme Lord and Overseer)!

I’d like to make a suggestion about a user’s name in general. The part when a new user is just making an account, they are asked to insert a name that has no limits but they can’t be PMed or pinged or anything.

But a user has unknowingly taken this over and made an absurdly large username that is messing up a lot of the site? It’d be nice if the name had a limit of characters as the username does.

I've been thinking, and it would be nice if page types had subfolders to tell certain bits inside apart at a glance. I would be nice if we could create and name these whatever we want, so under the food page I could create folders for meal, dessert, snack and drink and then open those up to see what pages are inside. Just an example, but it would make organizing things on a deeper level easier without overcrowding the overall page types.

Hi @sigilmancy ! This is a cool idea.

For now, I’m sort of using tags for this purpose. I have a lot of characters, but I can use tags to just look at all the kids, or all the adults, or all the bad guys, etc. The nice thing I find with the tag system is that it works like having multiple overlapping folders.

After recent…events…would it be possible to make worldbuilding pages open only to certain users?
For example, I could add one or two users to be able to see a character or universe, but only them. Sort of an inbetween of something being 100% private or public?

@crashing_praxina group

Could there be a way to filter the prompts? I know we can filter them by universe already, but it be SUPER helpful if we could filter them by page type AND tags! Like say you only want prompts for Characters and item pages, AND you also only want prompts for those characters and items marked with specific tags. It would really helpful, please and thank you.

@VictorSSkov

This is where we suggest new features, right?

I have been goofing around at World Anvil just to see what it was all about. It seems that its mostly tailored towards Dnd related stuff, and since i just want to write, ill stick with Notebook.ai :)
But one feature i absolutely loved about World anvil, was that i could upload a picture - A map of my world - and on that picture, i could link locations, cities, villages, etc. so that when i clicked on them, i would get send to those pages, kinda like a google maps feature.
Go check out World Anvil to see it for yourself.
Its cool, useful and would definetly make you a stronger competitor in the world building game!

I'd like to state that this is NOT an advertisement for World Anvil, but to better explain myself, i have to mention it to some extent.

@andrew health_and_safety flash_onAdmin

I love that feature, Victor. :) It's something I have in progress but there are a few technical issues I haven't found solutions to so it's not quite ready (and on hold while I get some feedback from other devs). I have huge plans for this though, and I'm ridiculously excited for it. Sneak peek if you're interested: right now it's on a development branch that reworks how location pages work so you can nest landmarks, towns, buildings, etc under "locations" (or however you'd like) and uses that hierarchical data to help suggest what pages to link when you click on the map (and also knows that, for example, buildings are within towns and towns are within countries, etc), but I'll probably break the two features apart so I can get one finished and released instead of waiting for both to be ready.

@TheGoddess That's also great feedback on prompts and would definitely be useful. I'm still amazed on a daily basis for all the feedback I get on how to improve the site. I originally built it for myself and it was super-specific to how I personally worldbuild, but every time I get a suggestion and think, "wow, yeah, why didn't I think of that?" it makes me super happy that I spent the time to rewrite the site so it works for everyone else, too. Thanks. :)

@HeySalay

I have a few suggestions for Notebook.ai, and apologize ahead of time if some of these have been suggested before:

  • The ability to create different templates for different universes. For example, someone might need a different character, item, or location template for a sci-fi world than they would for a fantasy world.
  • The ability to create multiple template types within a category and save them almost like presets, with the ability to mass edit templates of pages created with that template type. For example, in the Characters category, being able to create a template for magical characters and another for nonmagical characters in my universe would help keep things a little more organized, instead of creating every possible field I would need for each then only typing in the fields applicable to each character.
  • As requested by others, custom pages and field types. However, I would especially like to be able to add drop down menus to our templates with custom options to choose from, with the ability to have those options link to other pages if needed. For example, when creating a character template, you could have a Faction category with a drop down menu of the Factions in your universe, and when you select one, when you go to your character page it would link to that Faction's Group page.
  • The ability to create page breaks and bolded sub-category titles in templates to separate sections within template categories. For example, in Characters, if an Appearance category is made, you could add a small bold title that says "Physical Build" and put fields related to that under it, put a page break, then add another title that says "Character Style" and put fields under that related to that topic.

I think these are currently my top wanted features, just to keep things a little more organized. I hope these make sense ^-^''

@halfging3r Chihuahua Mom

@HeySalay I like your ideas. Just a note on your third bullet point, you can link to any page within any text field by simply typing an "@" and the name of the page. That will open up a drop-down menu of all your pages, and typing in the title directly after the "@" will narrow the search just like a normal search bar. Once you find it, click the page you want, and it'll be linked directly in the text.

Also, I really like your last idea. That could be quite handy in certain situations. You could also add a little "Table of Contents" type-thing on the left-hand side, kind of like what you see on most wiki sites.

@evastardust groupRRAAAARRL

The ability to block people from tagging you in things.

On a related note, not automatically following threads that you're tagged in.

That is an option already, I can't remember where you access it but you can change that.

@SupernaturalSyGuyIsTIred group

For the main discussions page, I think it would be nice to have a drop-down of links that link to the "world-building", "writing", roleplaying", "genre lounges", "resources", and "off-topic" portions of the same page would be extremely helpful and useful!

@Overdoneyanoveltropeyesplease

I think there should be an archive feature where you can tuck away anything you aren’t really using anymore, but you don’t want to delete it because maybe you’ll use it later. I have about 23 characters from an old story I’m no longer working on, but I don’t want to delete them because I might be able to use them for something else. They’re also taking up a lot of space and cluttering my characters page.
