"I don't think there is one," Pollux replied, "That's the problem."
He placed his water bottle back in the bag, then stretched a little.
"Of course, that doesn't mean a vaccine can't be made. I've saved a few samples of the bodily fluids of infected people and zombies in some petri dishes and microscope slides. It would help if I knew someone who was better at lab research than I am. I'm alright, but it's not my strongest point. Plus, I don't have a microscope or any other technology."
She slipped off her backpack before sitting criss-cross on the ground. Jaylin took out her laptop and started typing away, her fingers flying across the keys.
"So you need the tech? I could probably get you a keycard to a research lab, but I don't think there are any around here. I do have to stick to my code of only hacking for good…but I suppose creating a cure for a worldwide virus counts as a good deed." She was silent for the next few seconds, focusing on her laptop screen.
"I guess. That's probably the best place to start," Pollux replied. "How are you going to find that though? Much less get me in?"
He glanced over at her laptop with curiosity.
"Well I'm hoping that I can find a research lab that's close, but the internet is being dumb." Jaylin complained, sighing dramatically after. "If I can actually find one I should be able to hack into their employee data base, if they have one, and you could pretend to be one of their employees. If that doesn't work, we could just make a fake keycard."
"There are plenty of doctors' offices with microscopes in them too, right? I'm sure most of those are cleared out by now," Pollux suggested, "If you could find one, that would be much easier."
Jaylin frowned. "Yeah, but those aren't as fun." She began searching for nearby doctor's offices and hospitals anyway.
"Here we go." She said after a minute. "This one says it's been closed since the virus started spreading in this area. It's a fifteen minute drive, but I'm guessing that you don't have a car."
Yo, I can jump in with my character being at the hospital if that's okay))
(Ooh or you could meet us on the way there because I don't know how long it will take to get there)
Jaylin frowned. "Yeah, but those aren't as fun." She began searching for nearby doctor's offices and hospitals anyway.
"Here we go." She said after a minute. "This one says it's been closed since the virus started spreading in this area. It's a fifteen minute drive, but I'm guessing that you don't have a car."
“No. I’m sure if we really wanted to, we could steal one,” Pollux said, “Otherwise, looks like we’re going on foot. Sorry…”
"I'd rather not steal a car for such a short drive." Jaylin replied, closing her laptop and putting it into her backpack. She then took out her phone and put in the location of the doctor's office. The zombie tracker she had been developing was on her computer but she didn't want to walk with her computer out.
“Okay. Let’s get on it, then,” Pollux said. He started to think aloud, “Maybe I can raid the hospital’s pharmacy too, while we’re there.”
"As long as no one's using anything in the pharmacy, that's fine." Jaylin replied, starting to leave the dumpster lot. "Now where did you say those zombies were? I'm not exactly prepared for any fighting."
Pollux pointed up at the parking deck’s second level.
“There were some up there, in the store. Then there were a bunch at the other side of the mall. I think we’re fine for now.”
She nodded, her face showing her relief. "Good. The only weapon I have is a screwdriver, so I'm kind of screwed. No pun intended."
Since the outbreak where most of the human population died, many hospitals had closed, such as the one Logan was currently sitting on a swivel chair in. She spent most of her time at the hospital, as it had strangely good security that the walking dead couldn't get through easily.
The red-haired girl spun the chair repeatedly before finally stopping by placing her feet on the pharmacy's counter, which she was sitting behind. No one bothered her really. Sure, there were a few living people in the hospital, but they mostly kept to themselves. Everyone else was either killed by a zombie or died from whatever they were in the hospital for. There were a lot of corpses for Logan to dispose of when she first arrived at the hospital. She ran the place, as whoever had been in charge before had run away or was dead. Once in a while, a junkie would come by, searching for their next fix. Logan didn't refuse them meds, as long as they paid her. But all the same, seeing another human being was still pretty out of the ordinary.
“I have two knives. You can take one, and we’ll find a gun for you later,” Pollux suggested, “Honestly the first thing I did was find weapons.”
"That's probably a smart idea. I'm not exactly interesting in killing anyone, human or zombie." Jaylin admitted, staring down at her phone as she followed the directions to the hospital.
Pollux looked at his feet. "I wish that were the case for me… I'm starting to question my morals."
He thought back to early October, just a couple of weeks following the outbreak. Pollux had looked one of the people he loved the most in the eye and pulled the trigger. He shuddered a little at the thought and pushed it away.
Why is there just 10 minute gaps… where nothing happens…))
(Part of it is because I was using my phone to try responding to 3 different discussions, and it was a disaster.)
Jaylin opened her mouth to question why he had shuddered, but decided that it was better to keep her mouth shut. "It's nice to be travelling with someone who can actually kill zombies. I've just been running and hiding this whole time."
(Ack I'm on my phone too and it's so annoying)
"I'm sure you can… it's just a matter of whether you will or not," Pollux said, "But of course I'll kill zombies for you when necessary. I hope I can protect us both."
He was walking a bit ahead of Jaylin, suddenly feeling a lot more stressed than normal. Maybe it was because he had another person to worry about now besides himself.
"Don't put all the pressure on yourself. We'll help each other and keep each other safe." Jaylin stated, gesturing to the right as if telling Pollux to turn here.
"Alright, good to know," Pollux replied, "Damn, I just hope that hospital isn't infested."
He kept a sharp eye out in the meantime, and kept his voice very low when he spoke.
"Well it seems to have been closed for a while. Hopefully there's no one inside so we can just find what we need and leave." Jaylin said, still not taking her eyes off of her phone. She took a right turn at a fork in the road, staying on the sidewalk.
After a while, Pollux caught sight of a blue sign with a white H on it.
"We're pretty close, yeah?" he asked, glancing down the road.
They hadn't come across any trouble just yet, and for that, he was glad.
