Almost instantly, my face was flooded by heat and colour. “Y-Yes—“ I squeaked, hiding my flushed cheeks in the folds of his oversized shirt. “That—Um, yeah.”
Almost instantly, my face was flooded by heat and colour. “Y-Yes—“ I squeaked, hiding my flushed cheeks in the folds of his oversized shirt. “That—Um, yeah.”
I laughed, shaking my head as she flared up, flustered.
“You are so adorable,” I pecked her on her nose. “Had I known… I would not have acted so inappropriately. And that time you fed me honey…”
“Leave me alone,” I protested weakly, incredibly flustered. Maybe even more so than when he’d half-stripped in front of me for the first time….
I rolled on my back, pulling her along so her head was resting on my chest.
“All right,” I chuckled. “I’ll stop teasing you. One last question, though.”
I nodded, biting the inside of my cheek in anticipation for the third question. “Ask away..”
“Was that why you fell for me?” I teased, punching her nose. “Because of my amazing body?”
“I’m never letting you ask me questions again…” I groaned, shoving lightly at his chest. “And no, to answer your question.”
“I don’t know whether to be disappointed or happy about that,” I hugged her tightly. Just as I opened my mouth to tease her more, I felt movement in my room.
And something sprang on me.
”Cole! You stupid, idiotic fish!” Key exclaimed, slapping me with his tail. ”How dare you leave me with that bastard! Do you have any idea how much I want to chew your head off?”
I winced, removing my arms from Elle, the woman he was currently not noticing.
”Key, it’s late at night,” I sighed loudly, once again hugging Elle. ”Can we please talk tomorrow?”
That’s when he noticed Elle.
I stared at the catlike bondmate with wide eyes. Despite the fact that I couldn’t hear a word of what he was saying, his meaning was clear. But he hadn’t noticed me yet…. and I began to grow nervous for the moment he did.
Finally, our eyes locked.
Key stared at Elle with his mouth open, right before his lips twisted into a smirk.
”Oh~” he winked at me. ”I see, I see. No wonder you want me to hold this conversation off~ Don’t worry, my dear bondmate. I’ll leave you both be to your activities!”
I responded by shooting a fireball at him. He dispelled it.
”Key, shut it,” I grumbled. ”Get your mind out of the gutter. We aren’t doing anything.”
He merely winked before he noticed Scylla sleeping on a cushion. He immediately shrunk himself to fit the size of the cushion.
”Well, have fun~”
Scylla immediately raised her head when she sensed his presence, a dopey but relieved expression on her face. ”Finally,” she groaned. ”Someone to save me from these lovestruck idiots..”
Blushing furiously, I turned to bury my face in Colton’s chest.
I laughed, gently rubbing her back with my other hand. Whatever Scylla said must have been gold. I wish I could have heard.
Key responded by laying down snuggling with her. Then as if he hadn’t been asleep for a long time, he was out like a light.
“Well,” I kissed Elle’s head. “I suppose we, too, should get some sleep.”
“Mmhm..” I mumbled, stifling a yawn against his chest. An idea crept through my mind, an incredibly appealing one, but one that I wasn’t sure Colton would agree with. I prepared to ask it anyways, cuddling closer. “Hey, Colton?”
“Hm?” I curled up a little with her around me, tangling our legs together tighter. “What is it, love?”
“We’re supposed to train first thing tomorrow morning….” I murmured, “At the crack of dawn… Just this once, can we cheat? Stay in bed? Only tomorrow?”
I pulled away slightly to look at her in the eyes, an eyebrow raised.
“Are you telling me we should skip training, an important part of our lives, just for the sake of cuddling?” I inquired, fighting off the way my lips wanted to curl up into an amused smile. “… sounds like a wonderful idea.”
A soft sigh of contentment parted my lips. “Thank you…. I should probably prepare you for the fact that I’m ridiculously cheesy when it comes to romance..”
I quirked another eyebrow.
“Oh? Well then, I suppose I should prepare myself, huh?” I pulled her on to my chest, running my hand through her short hair. “You can be cheesy for the both of us. I, for one, am not the romantic one.”
“You were pretty romantic when you had me pinned to the floor in the armoury….” I muttered under my breath. Beside the bed, an audible snort could be heart from the direction of Scylla.
I let out a laugh, my body shaking. Shaking my head, I flicked her on her forehead.
“You call that romantic, I call it staking my claim,” I answered with a shrug. “I can be pretty possessive with what belongs to me, Elle.”
His choice of words made me slightly uncomfortable, but I brushed it off. “You’ll learn eventually,” I chuckled quietly, tapping my fingers against his chest.
I took her hand and gave it a gentle kiss, my eyes closed.
“Elle, you can’t let your guard down around me,” I murmured, my lips still pressed against her knuckles. “No matter what happens. Until… until this mess clears up.”
I shifted forward to place my lips over against his forehead. “Sleep, Colton. We’ll talk about all of this in the morning..”
I tightened my hold on her, cocooning myself around her, pulling the covers over us a bit more.
“Goodnight, Elle,” I murmured, exhaustion creeping up on me. “I’ll see you in the morning.”
“Goodnight…” I felt myself slipping away, burrowing deeper into his arms. Thank you, Colton….
I breathed heavily, eyes squeezed shut. Rapid breaths escaped my lungs and I felt constricted. Suffocated. Caged. It was like I was an animal cornered.
”Can’t you see what she’s doing to you? Poor Colton, you just want an escape, don’t you? To be in control? Your hope is blinding you…. you’re only making yourself vulnerable until she’s in a good enough position to hurt you…”
“Shut up…” I hissed, pain flashing across my head, eyes squeezed shut as I shot up immediately. “She wouldn’t.”
“Do you know how easy it would be for me to reach through you right now? I could strangle her while you slept, slip poison into her drink…. the first sight you’d see upon returning would be her lifeless corpse….”
Panic took over me, rivaling the intense pain shooting through my entire body. I was shaking, trembling, desperate for release. Desperate to protect. Desperate to let go. White filled my vision until the only thing I could think of was her name.
“No, you will not touch her,” I managed to hiss through clouded thoughts, but I knew she would. She would, to make me submit to her will. She would do anything to let me know who was in charge. “Don’t hurt her. Don’t make me hurt her. I’ll do anything you ask me to—just don’t hurt her. Please."
The pain only got stronger. I felt my sanity slip away just as her hold on me intensified. Her cold fingers enveloped my heart, squeezing tightly, strings of control once again wrapping around my arms. I felt like a puppet once more. I couldn't do this anymore. How foolish was I to think I could refuse her? I could never. I would always submit.
Like I was always bound to.
Soft noises pulled me out of a deep, dreamless sleep—panicked whispers. I blinked my eyes open. Colours and shapes blurred in the dim light, and when they eventually pulled together and focused, I finally registered where I was. Warmth seeped through my body, legs were tangled through mine, arms were slung loosely around my waist. Colton. Mrmories came rushing back. A smile rose to my lips.
But something was horribly wrong. The boy encasing me in his arms had stirred, letting out distressed murmurs, words that turned my blood to ice.
“I’ll do anything you ask me to—just don’t hurt her.”
And suddenly, I was wide awake. “Colton,” I whispered urgently, pushing myself into a sitting position. “Colton, look at me.”
Sweat began to pool at my forehead, wetting my hair. I could only register her words in my ears, lulling me into soft insanity. I took harsh breaths, trying—and failing—to regain control.
“Colton—“
That voice seemed so familiar, poking through the barrier around my brain. The soothing voice penetrated the walls she was wrapping me in to keep me trapped.
“Colton, look at me.”
I did. I opened my eyes and looked, hazy, dizzy, eyes spinning. I couldn’t see who was calling for me. Everything was blank—white. My eyes were completely blank. Whoever was calling for me, I couldn’t see them.

Stop itttttttt… 😭)
His eyes flew open, but it was as if he couldn’t see. For one terrifying second, they flashed black—and that was what spurred me into action.
“Colton!” I swung one leg over his hips so that I was straddling his waist, pressing both hands firmly into his shoulder. “It’s me—It’s Elle. Elle Amberly. I’m right here.” My voice began to tremble, so I stopped for a moment. “You are going to be okay. Alright? Hold onto my voice. Concentrate on it. Try and remember what I look like.”
