“Whats a… space heater?” Damian tested the new string of words on his tongue.
“Whats a… space heater?” Damian tested the new string of words on his tongue.
"Something that heats up a small area. Like I'm heating up the area around you." Catori explained.
((sksksk for a sec i forgot that this was medieval fantasy now i'm pretending they've found some way to do it in her country
Damian untangled his hands from hers, gentle replanting the rose in the ground before crawling over to Catori’s side. “I’ll exile you if you ever say a word about this.” He grumbled, pulling Catori close and resting his head on his shoulder. “More warmth.” He demanded quietly.
"I would like to see you try." Catori replied, smiling as she heated up the side he was on.
Damian practically melted, his arms wrapping loosely around Catori’s waist. “I’m really glad you chose me.” He mumbled, his eyes starting to shut.
"You were the only one who I really got to talk to." Catori joked, before adding on softly. "I'm glad too."
“You must’ve heard the others at least. What did you think of them?” Damian clung to Catori, thriving off the warmth she was giving off.
"They were…interesting. Kai was sweet though." Catori replied, happily letting him hold onto her. It felt nice, her power being helpful for once.
“He was trying to steal you from me.” Damian grumbled, jealously flashing in his icy eyes. The prince yawned afterwards, but made no attempt to hide it.
"He was simply doing the same thing you had been. He did back off when I told him I wanted to go with you." Catori huffed a laugh at his jealousy.
“He better have.” Damian scowled when Catori laughed. “What? You don’t consider me to be threatening.”
"Not at all. You're about as threatening as a puppy." Catori said fondly, reaching up with her other hand to poke his nose lightly.
Damian’s face turned a dusty pink in color as his nose was gently tapped. “Earlier you said I was strong. What changed?” He pouted, no bite behind his words.
"You are. You just don't scare me." Catori shrugged the shoulder that Damian wasn't resting on.
Damian sighed. “I was going to wait until later to tell you this, but…” He trailed off, looking at her. But I’m growing attached so fast it’s scary. He shook his head to clear the thought. “But now feels right.”
"Oh?" Catori looked down at him, confused.
Damian reluctantly pulled himself away from Catori, sighing quietly. “I suppose you deserve the truth.” He murmured, steeling himself before speaking up. “I’m uh… I’m half demon. Which sounds a bit insane… but I Can mostly control the demon half. You shouldn’t worry about it.”
"I'm not worrying." Catori stated calmly, raising an eyebrow.
“You aren’t going to panic?” Damian stared at her, stunned.
"And why exactly would I do that?" Catori asked, rolling her eyes.
“Because I’m half demon? I’ve lost control before, Catori. The wreckage was… awful.” Damian snuggled back up against Catori, this time seeking comfort.
Catori wrapped her arms around him, letting him nestle against her. "Hey, I trust you, alright?"
“Promise me you won’t try to stop me if it happens. Just run.” Damian replied, clearly trying to squash his sudden emotions.
"Alright." It was a lie, evidently. Catori didn't actually say the word promise, something she would have normally done, and her hand twitched in a tell.
Damian, distracted by vision of the past, took her word without question, nuzzling close to his heat source. His usually sharp eyes were slightly clouded, as though the murky claws of his darkest memories were blinding him to reality. He shivered suddenly, goosebumps racing across his skin.
Catori sighed and pressed a kiss to his hair, arms tightening around him. She began to hum softly, a lullaby her mother would sing her when she had nightmares.
Damian calmed slowly, his breathing evening out. “Thank you.” He whispered quietly, reaching for her hand and squeezing it.
"It's nothing." She replied, squeezing back. Her voice was soft, and just a bit sad.
Jasper peaked into the tent to make sure they both were awake. “Dinner’s ready.” He called softly, smiling at the sight of Damian and Catori cuddled up together. “It can wait if you need it to.”
"Damian?" Catori looked down at him for input, fine with whatever.
