Gwen had coaxed over the small fawn, scratching it behind the ears as it laid in her lap. “I really do love it out here. But I don’t like to come alone.”

"Now you don't have to."
Marla pulled back from the buck, lifting a cautious hand and running her fingers over its antlers, which were smooth like river pebbles.
“Good to know.” Gwen grew some more dandelions for the fawn to munch on. “There are other creatures too. Here in the woods, I mean.”
"Like what?" she asked, voice tinged with curiosity.
“I believe there’s a hippocampus colony in the lake. And there are some jackalopes in this area too. Unicorns are out in the fields with the pegasai. There also more dangerous one’s we’re not allowed to see.” Gwen listed, stroking the fawn.
Astonished, Marla gave a tiny nod in response. "Wait—Hippocampi? Really? Here?"
“Yeah, my roomate’s boyfriend works with them. Do you want to see?” Gwen grinned at Marla’s excitement.
Marla couldn't nod fast enough. "Can we really?"
“Of course.” Gwen, stood up, making sure to grow dandelions throughout the clearing for the perytons to eat. “It’s straight ahead. We can head there now.”
Marla nodded a second time, clearly dazed. “Alright!”
Gwen walked over to her girlfriend, taking her by the hand. “This way, Princess!” She announced dramatically.
