"A while ago she was kidnapped as we were walking out of this vet building. They drove her away in a van and I didn't see her until two days later, but she didn't remember me. She was brainwashed. I took her to the hospital and she slowly regained her memories. But now it's happened again."
Jess nodded slowly, thoughtfully. "And you called the police station after the first incident and reported it?"
"Yes. Nobody's been caught yet." He sighed.
She pressed her lips together and wrote something else down. "What's your girlfriend's name?"
"Katherine Mae Harrold, but she goes by Kate.", he recited.
She scribbled it down. "Okay…"
"Anything else?", he asked in a slightly rushed tone.
"Not that I can think of. Is there anything else you can tell me?" she asked. She was already planning in her head.
"They left and went that way." He pointed to where they had left and then started running in that direction.
"Where are you going?" Jess called after him.
He ignored her and run down the alleyway. There weren't much signs of people going through there. They know what they're doing.
Jess wasn't sure whether to follow him or not. She decided to get in her car and follow him. The car pulled up beside him and she put the window down. "Get in!"
"Uh… why?" Am I in trouble?
"So we can catch up to them faster," she explained. "Unless you want to keep running."
He smiled and hopped in. "You seem like you know what you're doing."
"I didn't graduate first in my class for nothing. Now did you see where they went?" she replied, returning his smile.
"Only saw them go down this alley, but that looks like a smart way to go." He pointed to the left to a space hardly big enough to fit a car.
She took a deep breath and maneuvered her car through the alley.
"I live at Stillwater so I know my way around. If you follow this alley you'll get to a small junkyard that is it of sight from most buildings.", he explained.
She nodded. "Do you expect them to be there?"
"I'm not sure. It's a good spot to look first." He didn't know if he hoped to find them or not.
She nodded in reply and fell silent as they approached.
It was silent around the junkyard, but it looked as though people had gone through. "What do you think? Should we look further?", he asked.
"Would it be a plain waste of time to look? Or do you want to keep looking?" she asked, looking over at him with an arched eyebrow.
He paused for a moment. "I want to look. You can come with me if you want.", he finally said.
"Do you think they're still here? Those tracks say otherwise, but it could just be a ruse," she remarked.
"I'm no expert, but I think we should split up in case it is a ruse. We can't let them get away or there will be more people that get brainwashed." He should have felt proud to speak like that to an officer, but he just felt empty.
Jess nodded and was about to open the door, when she stopped. "Your girlfriend wouldn't know where they are, would she?"
"No." He jumped out of the car before she could. "We'll meet up here if we don't find anything."
She sniffed a little and got out of her car. "Okay."
