”Loser!” Copper flew to Damian’s shoulder, restlessly teasing the prince. He swatted halfheartedly at the bird.
“Do you see the abuse I take?” He muttered, glaring at Copper. His cheeks were still flushed a bright pink.
”Loser!” Copper flew to Damian’s shoulder, restlessly teasing the prince. He swatted halfheartedly at the bird.
“Do you see the abuse I take?” He muttered, glaring at Copper. His cheeks were still flushed a bright pink.
"Copper, be nice!" She bit back laughter as she scolded the bird, the entire situation somewhat amusing.
Copper flitted back to Catori, perching on the princess instead. Damian sighed and messed up his hair by running a hand through it. “Thanks, Catori.” He faked a cough suddenly. “Princess. Thank you Princess Catori.”
"Catori is just fine." Catori patted Copper, shooting another smile at Damian, careful not to entirely replicate the last one.
“Would you like to meet, Quintus?” Damian asked abruptly, desperate for the cool air to soothe the blush on his cheeks. “I can translate for you.”
"I would love to!" Her face lit up in excitement.
Damian starting walking, waving for her to follow. He strolled over to Jasper and Quintus immediately scratching the horse behind the ears and laughing at Quintus literally knocked him onto the ground by nuzzling him back too hard.
Catori laughed, watching the interaction with interest. They care a lot for each other.
Damian got back to his feet, quietly whispering to the grey stallion. “Don’t embarrass me! This is the princess who’s coming with us.” Quintus neighed in response as Damian wiped off his pants.
”You managed to get a princess?” Damian ignored this.
“Catori, this is Quintus. My father gave him to me two years ago when he was a foal. Well, technically all my brothers got one, but we spend the most time together. Because of the whole… talking thing.” He stroked Quintus’s mane, hiding his red cheeks from Catori.
”Talking thing?” Quintus whinnied, clearly amused.
"More of a friend than a steed, right?" She waved at Quintus with a friendly smile.
”How’d she guess?” Quintus looked at Damian and snorted, making the prince laugh.
“I don’t know how she guessed, bud.” Damian resisted the urge to playfully snort back, trying to remain professional in front of Catori.
”Do it.” Quintus teased, snorting again and nudged Damian. He almost lost his balance again and stumbled back a little.
“No, I can’t right now.” He argued, pushing Quintus’s head away lightly.
Catori hid her grin behind one hand. "Do what, exactly?"
By now, Ursule had wandered off, her short attention span getting the best of her, as per usual.
Damian looked back at Catori, smiling at her poorly hidden grin. “He wants me to snort back at him. It’s a stupid joke.” Damian explained, rubbing Quintus’s nose.
”It’s a handshake! But I don’t have hands!” He whined before snorting again.
“My apologies. It’s a handless handshake.” The prince translates sarcastically.
"Well in that case, why haven't you returned the…handshake? That is a very important matter, Damian." She managed to slip into a poker face she had used on many occasions, adding a funny air of seriousness to her comment.
Damian sighed in defeat, a grin slipping onto his face. “Lord help me, Catori. I can’t even tell if you’re joking or not.” Not wanting to upset the princess in case this was some weird foreign custom he wasn’t aware of, Damian let out a convincing, but rather ridiculous sounding snort at Quintus, who immediately snorted again in return.
”I like her!” Quintus neighed, snorting at Catori now.
"Am I…supposed to do the same?" She asked, the mask slipping back into her grin, now slightly confused.
“Is she?” Damian raised an eyebrow at Quintus, stifling a laugh. “I suppose, he said he liked you so I would say—“ He was cut off by a whinny.
”Yes!” Quintus snorted again, louder this time.
“Yes.” Damian translated, failing to hide his amusement.
"I-" She almost doubled over in laughter. "You'll have to give me just a second." When she finally managed to get out a snort, it triggered another laughing fit, this time indeed making her double over, clutching her stomach.
Damian joined in, bursting into laughter as well. He couldn’t quite feel it at the moment, but Catori was already causing him to soften towards her, a task Damian considered impossible for any princess up until this moment.
”She’ll be good for you.” Quintus neighed, rubbing his face against Damian’s arm.
“I agree, Quin.” The prince managed to contain his laughter, just barely at least. He looked at Catori. “Quin says wonderful job. Ten out of ten. Grade A snort.”
That just made her laugh harder, and it took a few minutes for her to calm down, face flushed. "It was a pleasure."
“Get used to it. If you decide come with us, I mean.” Damian smiled, feeling a bit confident. Catori looked genuinely happy, and at this point, he earnestly wanted her to come with him.
"I think I have decided, if it's alright with you. I enjoy the company of both you and Quintus very much." Catori smiled brightly.
“I would be honoured to have you accompany me.” Damian smiled as wide as possible and sighed in relief. “You have no idea how much stress you just alleviated.”
"I do hope I wasn't the cause of that stress." She said, worried a bit. She really hadn't meant to cause anyone stress, and the idea was stressing her out.
“Nonsense, Don’t fret, please.” Damian waved his hand dismissively. “It was just my father’s deadline of convincing a princess, possibly more than one, to like me now. With very little warning. It’s a bit overwhelming.”
"Oh." Catori visibly relaxed. "That's good. I really didn't want to be the reason for anyone's stress."
