Marla wanted to bang her head against the wall. Repeatedly. Because was Gwen was so cute with the blanket wrapped around her shoulders, and dear god that smile— She inhaled sharply. “Yeah. Pizza. One half cheese, the other half olives and halm? It’s delicious, I promise.”
“You don’t have to convince me, I trust you.” Gwen made herself comfortable on the floor next to her bag, looking up at the stars through the glass ceiling and trying to ignore the buzzing warmth in her chest.
(I misspelled ham what the hell
K my brain isn’t working I’m sorry)
Marla dialed the number of the nearest place and ordered, lowering herself onto her back on the floor. When she was finished, she decided to take a huge risk and curl up into Gwen’s side— an easy decision, really.
(Lol it’s okay! Mine isn’t really working either! XD)
“Cold?” Gwen laughed, trying to hide how flustered she was. She wrapped her blanket around Marla’s shoulders so they could share it. “I get cold pretty easily sometimes, I’ll be honest.” She smiled, her face beet red.
(Lol)
Marla thought she saw her life flashing before her eyes. She found herself cuddling closer, her thundering heart making it difficult to focus.
“Yeah… uh…” Gwen stammered, wrapped her around around Marla. “Sorry, if that makes you uncomfortable I can move my arm. It’s not a big deal.”
“Don’t you dare,” Marla mumbled, face hot. “Unless you’re uncomfortable, I mean.”
“No! No, I’m fine. Totally fine.” Gwen raised her head to look at the stars. Don’t panic. Don’t panic…
Marla pulled the blanket tighter around them both, certain that Gwen could hear the frantic beating on her heart from where she lay. “Aren’t the stars beautiful..?”
Gwen could hear her heartbeat in her ears. Marla is going to think I’m insane. “They really are…” She echoed softly.
But at that moment, Marla was more concerned with a rather different beautiful entity. “This— this is nice.”
Gwen stared at Marla for a moment. “Have you ever seen that scene from Tangled? With the lanterns floating on the water?” She asked, her voice hardly above a whisper.
Marla nodded once, suddenly realizing how incredibly close their faces were. “Yes— why?”
Gwen shook her head, doing a bad job of biting back a smile. “N-Nothing… Justs thought of it is all.”
Macha nodded hastily, too busy exploring the depths of Gwen’s eyes to respond. Almost in a trance, she leaned forward—— only to jump back in surprise when her phone let out a loud ding. She scrambled to her feet, face hit with embarrassment. “Pizza’s— the pizza is here. I’ll go— I’ll go get it.”
Gwen couldn’t stifle the giggle that escaped her lips. She was blushing madly, her face turned away slightly in a poor attempt to hide it. “Alright…” She cursed her voice for sounding so small.
Marla fled the room before she could do anything more idiotic than the deed her phone had saved her from, grabbing her wallet before she left. Her heart pounded all the way down to the ground floor, and by the time she’s managed to carry the huge pizza box all the way back up, it had thankfully calmed down.
Gwen had already broken another one of her rules. By the time Marla got back she had vacated the floor in favor of the squishy loveseat, still curled up with the blanket. “Smells good.” She eyed the pizza box, praying her stomach wouldn’t growl.
Marla didn’t dare to look up at Gwen, only smiled down at the floor and opened the box. “Ah….. we don’t have plates,” she realized. “Crap.”
“Well, then we have to turn to savagery!” Gwen laughed, getting up from her comfy spot.
Marla laughed too, still staring down at the floor. “Whoops. Sorry. Here, you take first.”
Gwen dropped her blanket on the loveseat and stretched, perhaps purposely (although she would never admit to it) showing a bit of the skin on her stomach. “Thanks!” She walked over to Marla and grabbed a slice of cheese pizza.
Marla almost choked— Gwen had exposed a slice of stomach the moment she’d dared to look up. Not realizing when one of her bra straps slipped down her shoulder, she reached for her own slide.
“Hey! No stripping in my good pagan suburb!” Gwen teased through a mouthful of pizza, trying to ease her racing heart. She swallowed the bite of gooey cheese laughed a bit childishly. “I’m gonna be honest with you, this bra is not staying on all night. That’s hella uncomfortable and I can’t put in that kind of effort past 10 PM.”
Macha choked on her pizza. She immediately started coughing, her face red for several different reasons as she hastily adjusted the strap. “That’s fine— yeah— sorry—“
“Do you want some water? I brought a bottle with me! I drank out of it earlier, but if you don’t mind sharing…” Gwen began to ramble nervously, now upset that she had upset Marla. She held her slice of pizza in between her teeth, grabbing a pale blue metal water bottle from the side pocket of her bag.
“It’s fine— I’m fine—“ Marla managed, struggling to remember what breathing was and how it was done. “Sorry.”
“Are you sure?” Gwen frowned, legitimately concerned. “I really don’t mind!”
“Yeah— don’t worry about me.” Marla smiled weakly. She took another bite of her pizza, forcing herself to meet Gwen’s eyes.
“Sounds fake, but okay.” Gwen continued to munch on her pizza, her gaze shifting from Marla to the stars.
