"It's not like I haven't had no say. Sometimes you are just too concerned."

Kale quietly mumbled. "I'm sorry, I'm working on it."

"no. It's fine. It's fine." Jay replied.

"You don't have to cover up the truth." Kale chucked. "I shouldn't be so concerned or protective over you all the time. You need your own space after all."

"yeah. I guess I do sometimes." Jay agreed.

"I'm sorry." Kale sighed, rubbing the back of their head. "Would you like some space now?"

"nah. I'm cool with you right here. Just sometimes it feels like I am treated differently because I am blind and it gets a bit annoying."

"I don't treat you differently because of that… It's because.. well it's hard for me to explain."

"try to explain. Pleeeeeeeease." Jay said curious of why.

"I…" Kale stopped for a moment, trying to figure out how to put their feelings and thoughts into words. "It's just a feeling I have.. a lot of people have it, where you just always want to be close to someone, and you want to make them happy because their smile is like the best thing in the world because it makes you feel warm inside, and you make it your job to make sure they're safe because it would break you if anything horrible happened to them…"

Jay nodded slowly not sure what to say or how to respond.

"Sorry, I don't know if that actually makes sense." they laughed nervously. "I'm not good at putting words to emotions."

"yeah. Your really aren't great at explaining." He replied.

"Ouch.. no need to be so blunt about it." Kale sighed. "One person may call it love, another may say obsession, while another may say it is like parental love. Truth is I don't know which of those three it is, and i'm in no rush to find out."

"um. Alright." Jay said. He really didn't know what to say or what was the appropriate response.

(Woo?)

"Sorry, I'll stop talking." Kale knew that they were making the situation awkward. A police officer came over to take down Kale and Jay's names and ages, explaining that there would be some people coming to take small groups of the children to different places, including other orphanages depending on how young the kids were. The officer left them alone to take down the details of other children.
"We'll be fine." Kale whispered, not really knowing how to feel about being taken to a new place.

"yeah. I hope so." He replied and listened around

Before long, multiple cars and minivans rolled up to the orphanage. From the looks of the drivers, they were polite, generous, but also very tired and confused. The police began assigning children to the vehicles, 4 to the cars and 8 to a minivan. Kale and Jay were directed to a dark navy car with two of the younger girls. The woman stood beside it had a kind smile that made Kale suspicious, but she took Kale's belongings and neatly tucked them into the boot, signalling for all of them to climb inside her car. Once on the road she told them that she would be taking them to a care home in the city. Kale whispered to Jay. "I'm not the only one on edge right?"

"Oh I am extremely confused about all of this." Jay whispered.

"I keep thinking she'a gonna take us somewhere that is equally as bad as Lone Pines, but she has a kind face and it throws me off." Kale glanced at the two girls, who were mumbling to each other, then back at Jay. "We are finding Jordan asap and then…well we'll have to work from there." They paused. "Do you think there will be other kids our age at this new place?"

"Well I hope so. It will be weird if we are the oldest there. But I am going to need your help. I had the old place memorized this place i have no idea about it at all. " Jay said. He honestly was scared about this place he didn't know it or where it was.

"Don't worry, I told you that I'm always here for as long as you need me." Kale could understand how Jay was feeling, they too were terrified about moving. The car turned down a road to the left and a wide building cane into view. It was three floors high and dim lights flickered in all of the windows. The car came to a halt before the woman opened the doors for them. She escorted the kids inside to a little sitting area and told them to wait.
Kale shivered, their body adjusting to the temperature. "Jay, I think you'll like it here, everything is so brightly decorated compared to Lone Pines, and it's actually warm!"

"it feels and sounds nice." Jay replied feeling the warmth.

The woman came back with a tall man. He also had a kind face like the woman. He explained that due to short notice, he hadn't had enough time to prepare rooms for all four of us and we would have to share with some of the other kids until they could get it sorted. Kale immediately tensed up, wondering if Jay would have to share with someone horrible. They were all taken to different rooms and given clean pyjamas for the night. Kale stood in the doorway to the room they had been placed in, directly across from Jay, making sure he was okay.

Jay had been guided and told where he would go to. He walked into the room slowly.

Kale sighed, knowing that they shouldn't worry so much about Jay, and quietly greeted their temporary roommate. The two of them made small talk, clearly suspicious of one another, until the other finally went to sleep. Only then did Kale get changed into the pyjamas, and sat silently against the wall, processing all the thoughts in their mind.

Jay never did change. Him and his roommate never did talk to eachother. His roommate just slept and he sat quietly.

"I should sleep, it will calm the nerves…" Kale glanced to the temporary bed and shook their head. They stood up and snuck out of the room, heading downstairs to the sitting area. Kale tucked themselves into the corner of a sofa, staring out of the nearby window.
