Jay slept for awhile in his bed, still dressed in regular clothes.

Kate pressed a number and bit her lip. Straight to voicemail. She left a message. "Matt, when you get this, call me back please." She ended the call and put the phone on the nightstand.

Jay woke up and went downstairs and got some grape juice.

Brink rested while his parents talked. after a while, his father came over to him to see if he was ok "dad, what'll happen to Vanessa if they catch her?"
"that's not going to happen brink, your kitty will be fine, I'm sure of it. now stop being so serious, you know I hate it when you look like that," he said with a grin. Brink nodded and smiled

Vanessa was almost there you could here tires screeching from a distance

Jay put down his cup grabbed some keys and drove to the hospital. He knew that Kate probably wanted to kill him slightly. But he wanted to know that she was ok. He got to the hospital got out of his car asked for Maria's room and went to it.

Brink perked up, away from his parent's conversation and looked out the window
"Stay here, I'll bring her in." Harley got up and headed towards the door with caution

Kate's forehead was resting on the bed and she was asleep, holding her mother's hand protectively.

¨This is it¨ vanessa said as she got out of her car she was limping she said crashed earlier and smadhed her leg.

Harley slipped her arm around Vanessa's back to help support her leg and walked her to the house "brinks inside, he's doing fin."

Vanessa sighed ¨Thank you Mrs. Quin¨ she said.

Kate's forehead was resting on the bed and she was asleep, holding her mother's hand protectively.

Jay walked in quietly and stood by the wall.

After about a minute, Kate stirred and lifted her head sleepily. She blinked and became alert when she saw someone else in the room, but she admittedly relaxed a little when she saw it was only Jay. "Oh, hi. I didn't think you would come."

"didn't think I would come here either." He replied still leaning on the wall.

"Then why are you here? To mock me?" she spoke slowly, her words slurred with distinct fatigue.

"nah. Wanted to see if you were ok. And you seem to need sleep." He said then sat in a chair in the corner of the room.

Kate blinked rapidly a couple times and rubbed her eyes absently with her free hand. "I'm fine."

"you sure." He asked her and sighed.

She nodded, looking at Maria's calm expression. She looked like she could sit up and go on a mission with her at any second, but Kate knew that wasn't going to be happening.

Jay walked over then stood behind her. "You are not ok. Your facial expression clearly shows it."

"This isn't supposed to happen," Kate said, her voice cracking painfully. "She's supposed to be strong. Nothing–" Her throat closed around the words and for the first time in several years, Kate broke.

"she is ok right now. So calm down a bit." Jay said and kneeled down.

"Nothing is supposed to happen to her," she sobbed. "It isn't supposed to be like this."

"hey. She will be alright. You just have to wait until she wakes."

Kate pressed her lips together and nodded, pushing away the thoughts that insisted otherwise.
