Sebastian put his fork down, liking the last of the icing off his lips. He rose, looking questioninfly to Devon. “Where should I put my plate?”

And I believe you meant “licking” not “liking”. Lol.)

“Just in the sink is fine. I’ll wash all of the dishes later,” Devon said with a small smile.

The rest of the group was already getting ready to leave, having sleepy kids and tired parents. She saw them out the door, smiling and thanking them for coming.

And just like that, the two were alone again– save for Layla, of course. Sebastian didn't meet Devon's eyes, only scooped the birthday girl into his arms.

(Lol. I’m okay. Tired and sore from standing all day at work, but otherwise fine.

Layla giggled happily and patted at his cheeks. “Bahstin!”

Devon smiled over at them for a moment before heading into the kitchen. She grabbed a piece of paper and a pen, scrawled a quick note, and folded it in half with a sigh. Maybe that would clear some things up…

“I got pwesents!” Layla declared giddily, pointing to the pile of new toys on the floor.

Devon walked back over to them and smiled at her happy daughter. She really was glad that they got along so well… It was so nice to see someone newer charming her precious little girl.

"Yes, I can see that." He smiled, eyes flickering briefly to Devon. "You like them?"

“Yes! See my new baby?” the toddler asked, trying to show it to him but unable to because they were too far away.

Devon chuckled softly. “Do you want me to get the baby so you can show Bahstin?”

Layla grinned. “Yes!”

Layla giggled and reached over to boop his nose. Devon shook her head in amusement at her daughter, making her way into the living room to grab the new doll.

She picked it up and headed back to the pair, fingering the note in her pocket with her free hand. She really hoped that things would still be good between her and Sebastian after she gave it to him. Once she reached them, she handed Layla her new baby with a smile.

Devon’s heart skipped a beat when Sebastian finally met her eyed for the first time in a while that night. She really needed to show him that she still liked him. Maybe even the way she thought he liked her…

“See? New baby!” Layla declared, holding her toy out to Sebastian.

Layla paused for a moment, her eyebrows dipping cutely. “Bahstin!” she finally decided with a giggle.

Devon chuckled and covered her mouth, hiding her smile. Of course she had decided to name her new doll after her favorite person.
