Mari tensed. “No!!! No way!!” Regaining her composure, she said “maybe closing it off isn’t the best idea? What if we get stuck? “
Mari tensed. “No!!! No way!!” Regaining her composure, she said “maybe closing it off isn’t the best idea? What if we get stuck? “
“Can it withstand our campfire?” Zol asked.
"I think so" said frost "my ice abilities will weaken if it gets too hot but if I make it thick enough it will hold…"
Zol looks at. Mari, his expression unreadable. “We do not need to block ourselves in. We can stand guard throughout the night. I will take first watch.”
Piper glanced at Frost. "That'll work, but I'm just worried about the ice melting from the fire," They were almost near the cavern, but she continued to speak. "I say that we should have someone on guard, just in case. We could change positions every hour."
"I was just going to suggest that…" said frost " and you dont need to worry about it melting. After all I am a fire and ice element"
Mari sighs. “Sorry, i didn’t mean to freak out. I’m a bit…wary of closed spaces! It was a good idea.”
Zol glanced at her sympathetically. “It is nothing to be ashamed of. All of us here have fears of our own.”
"Understandable" said frost attempting to make friends
“Thanks, guys” she said, looking very grateful.
Citra nodded, pulling her blackfire back into herself as they came up to the cavern. She doubted she would get much sleep tonight, so perhaps she would offer to take up watch. She had sharp enough eyes anyway.
Zol crouched as he went through the low entrance. He glanced at them and around the small space. “I’ll take first watch,” he volunteered. “You get some rest for the days ahead.”
Mari made a little cloud pillow, and pulled a blanket from her bag. “I’ve got snacks if you guys want some!”
Zol pulled out a small bag and threw it in the middle of the floor. “Bread, some meat, a little water.”
"Like I said before, I could go and get some fish from a nearby lake if needed." Artemis said
“She’s right.” said Zol, “We had better save our rations until we need them.”
Citra busied herself with building a large warm fire in the center of the cave. Her blackflame didn't offer much in the way of light, instead giving off a glow reminiscent of the moon far above them. It was warm, so she was happy. She curled up against the wall, close to the entrance and watched everyone else. Her sharp eyes catching everything they did.
Zol scooped up his sack and put it somewhere inside his robes. He walked over to the entrance. He glanced over at the remaining figures huddled in the dark. “Sleep well.” he said.
Mari sighed, and looked around. “you never know how much you’ll miss the waves until you’re far from them.” She puts a bubble of water around her head, and drifts to sleep.
Zol sat silently in the shadowy night. He let out his breath slowly and breathed in the pure, crisp night air. He let his eyes sink closed and began regulating his breathing. Soon he felt nothing. He let his senses spread out until he could feel the sleeping forms of his companions and hear their gentle snores. He smiled to himself softly. Friends?
He heard the noises of some animals in the forest nearby. Who knew what kind, everything felt so strange. Of course he had barely been out of the temple for the last twelve years. Of course the world would feel different. Zol felt the gentle rays of the moon shining down on him and sighed. He would have loved to collapse into the loving embrace of sleep, but he knew he mustn’t. He could make it through the entire night if he had too. The Brothers had made sure he was always aware of his body’s capabilities at all times. He would be fine. He prepared to wait for many hours. They had driven it into him over and over. Service to others was the greatest gift. And Zol hated to disturb the others.
After a couple of hours frost woke as she had told herself she would, she looked around and saw that Zol was still on watch, A quick glance at the moon told her it was nearly midnight. She got up and padded to the entrance "Zol?" She said,
Zol raised his head. “Yes?”
"You've been on watch way too long," she said padding out and sitting beside him, "Let me take over," she said as her tail curled over her paws.
Zol glanced at her startled, then nodded tiredly and headed into the cave and fell asleep.
Frost watched him go inside, noting his immediate state of sleep. then turning to the entrance to watch the moon, useing her ears and nose to scan the area she became one with the night… Minus her fur of course…
Piper decided not to say anything while setting up camp, as she was too tired to do so. Once the fire started, she sat down away from it, but close enough to feel the warmth. She would feel (and be) dried up if she sat too close. Seeing the others falling asleep, Piper tried to do the same, but every time she closed her eyes she just saw images of the cove. The cove had it's reputation as a perfect community, but everything has it's darkside.
The morning sunlight filtered through the narrow cave opening right onto Zol’s sleeping face. With a jerk he sat up. He immediately began to berate himself for sleeping in, then he remembered. The cave. The journey. He sat up and glanced around to see…
(Someone can pick up here.)
Piper was inching around the fire, being extra careful not to get burnt. How did this thing stay alive all night? It shouldn't be possible. She looked around then at all the hybrids and remembered how they're supposed to go on a journey together. But a lot of things shouldn't be possible.
Mari was meditating in the corner, still with a bubble of water around her head. She didn’t notice Zol, as she hadn’t expected anyone to wake up quite so early.
Had gotten around the fire successfully, she now had to figure out how to get around the huge ice block without bringing the whole thing down. She was positively starving, and she didn't want to drain the rations anymore than she had to. So Piper decided, why not summon some fish and eat it? She knew there was a body of water nearby since she could feel the aura of Her. But how to get past without waking everyone? she contemplated, lost in thought.
