Ok so in my world, the main characters view the government as evil. But what they won't find out until the climax of the story is that the guy in charge of the whole shebang is actually a good guy. I need help giving him an actual motive to run things the way he does.

Maybe the real villain is the person or persons who are spreading nasty misinformation about the government? Maybe most of the rumors are made up entirely, and the government guy actually runs things well? It's a tricky problem, there may be other solutions but that's the only one I can think of.

So I've basically got two universes. There's the main universe, also known as the Sorrelverse, and then there's the opposite world, called The Abyss. The Sorrelverse got its name when Sorrel was my only character, I named practically everything after him. (Luckily only the universe shares its name with him now.) The Abyss got its name from a Nintendo roleplay I had. (See, I used to Pictochat roleplay with my friends, and if the background around the character was black, they were in something called 'The Abyss'.) The Sorrelverse is practically just like Earth, only much more peaceful. No-one seems to have any problems there. The Abyss is practically shadowed, and you can barely see anything there. It reminds me of the Nether from Minecraft, except minus all the glowstone blocks.

Does anybody have an idea as to how I could deepen the detail with the two universes, or any improvement ideas? All comments welcome here! Thanks for your advice!

Worldbuilding is the way toward building a conjured up universe, now and again connected with an entire anecdotal universe. The subsequent world might be known as a built world. rawdah.io tells us that there is no age limit to see dreams and to believe them but for achieving that goal you have to work hard.

Nowadays, people don't care

I have a universe with maaanyyy realms (although mine are a bit different than 1 light 1 dark). You could do a stranger things concept with with these. Also, the structure of how these realms work together depends on if 1 is good and 1 is bad, or neither and are simply opposing or just different places to go. I find it helpful to look at old mythologies that have a "realm" or "reality" concept tied to them (ie: Norse). you could even get ideas from comics, books, tv shows, games (theres an online d&d game i used as inspiration for 1 of my places). And drawing inspiration from many resources and then playing around with them is veeery fun. I dont have all my realms shaped yet but ive got a solid idea. If u want more help (because i loooove a good creative discussion) ask away! itd also be fun to learn about a couple of the characters youve got in there!

In my world, every time you sin, it creates a part of your personal Hell. The 7 Deadly Sins builds a bigger part of your personal hell than other sins. Example: Lust builds a bigger part of your hell than lying.

I set my world in an alternate 1800s Earth because I wanted to blend fantasy and reality. A world I know, with magic and romance that is different and fun to write about

If this discussion thread isn't entirely dead- I need some help with naming a faction in my world! I have all the ranks and roles already, I just can't seem to find a suitable name. It's entirely a faction of doctors/plague doctors. They're definitely morally grey and I'm on the fence to have a splinter faction be necromancers. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated!

First thing that comes to mind is The Requiem (Mass of death) of Asclepius (Greek god of medicine)

Oo, I really like The Requiem actually! I'll probably end up using that one! It really fits the kind of 'law/religion cult' I've got in my head for these guys! Appreciate the suggestions!

@cole

My world is completely unbalanced. Supers, wizards, aliens, and mad science ravage a futuristic alternate Earth. The only reason the universe hasn't permanently imploded yet is because powerful forces keep canceling each other out. (:

Query I've been trying to figure out: where would one be able to find and possibly steal the written instructions on how to build something such as a ballista? Like where would those plans have been kept back in the day when they used ballistas?
