NICOLETTAs TROPES (Nicoletta da Firenze)
Hime Cut: Nico wears her hair with parted blunt bangs, long sidelocks that fall to her shoulders, and the rest of it straight down to her waist. Rocking a hairstyle that says "I'm in charge, and I'm still cute".
The Kirk: She keeps the emotional balance with The Spock Medea and the violent McCoy Miyuuki.
Statuesque Stunner: She's a towering beauty at 6ft tall, leaving her gal pals looking like cute little dwarves next to her stunning presence.
The Ace: She’s got smarts, speed, adaptability, skill, magic power and enough charisma to rally anyone to her side. On top of that, she’s got a heart of gold that genuinely believes in redemption, that even those who have strayed deserve a second chance if their remorse is sincere and their desire to change is real. As long as she’s breathing, she’s in the fight. Put all that together, and it’s no surprise Nicoletta’s considered one of the best battlefield commanders you’ll find anywhere in the world.
The Heart: Nicoletta is the heart and soul of the team; the kind of person whose presence instantly lifts the room. She’s got this natural warmth, always upbeat with a smile that feels like pure sunshine. And it’s not just surface-level charm: She’s open, emotionally honest, and never afraid to show vulnerability, which only makes her feel more human, more real. She genuinely looks out for the people around her, and that sincerity is magnetic. People don’t just respect her as a leader; they’re drawn to her because she makes them feel seen, heard, and important. Her crew doesn’t just take orders, they believe in her. They admire her, trust her, and would follow her into hell and back without a second thought.
Quincey raised his glass. “To the stubborn little ray of sunshine keeping our sorry asses from falling apart.”
Strong Family Resemblance: Subverted. While Nicoletta's proved to be biologically related to her parents, but you'd never guess it by looking at her. With her pink hair and eyes, she's about as far from her mom and dad as you can get! But turns out she's near identical to the goddess Laurel. Guess when you're the human incarnation of a deity, family resemblances don't mean much, huh?
Chick/Dude Magnet: Both Medea and Miyuuki have developed feelings for Nicoletta, while Quincey still seems to hold a torch for her and hasn't fully moved on from their past relationship.
Academic Athlete: Not only did she excel in her college studies, but she was also a volleyball superstar, and has kept both her brain and body in tip-top shape ever since.
White Sheep: of the women in the Argento family. Her biological mother is a total trainwreck, a neglectful jerk who can't keep it in her pants, her first cousin is a selfish con woman, and her grandmother is a cold-hearted bitch who doesn't even try to redeem herself. But Nicoletta? Despite her trolling and occasional immaturity, she's still a principled and selfless person. She may not be perfect, but compared to the rest of her family, she's practically a saint!
Wrong Genre Savvy: Nicoletta may have a love for action movies, but sometimes she needs a reality check when it comes to actual mission protocols and strategies. It's not uncommon for her to get a little carried away with her Hollywood-inspired plans, but thankfully Medea is always there to set her straight. Case in point: when Nicoletta suggested storming into the du Cronos Dynasty's base like a boss, Medea quickly shut that idea down, reminding her that they were up against an entire army and not just a few bad guys.
Family Theme Naming: She's the fourth ''Nico'' in her family. Nicoletta's dad is Nicolo and her big bro is Nicolás, and eventually we meet her grandma, Nicola, making it clear that her family was really into that name, or perhaps just ran out of ideas.
Significant Birth Date: Nicoletta is thrilled to have hit the birthday jackpot by being born on October 31, which means Halloween is always her birthday party! She gets to dress up in costumes and have twice the fun while everyone else is just getting started.
Indy Ploy: When discussing her foes' intellectual strengths, Anthony singles out Nicoletta for her exceptional talent in "reflexive thinking," which proves to be a valuable asset for her role as a leader. While acknowledging that the entire V7D is comprised of intelligent individuals... to a degree, she emphasizes that Nicoletta's forte lies in her ability to think quickly and adapt in the heat of the moment. While Mia is known for her meticulous planning and preparedness, Yuuki for her manipulative and threatening lies, Quincey for his analytical skills, and Medea for her... being all of the above, But Nicoletta? She’s the queen of spontaneous thinking. Her talent for making split-second calls and crafting strategies on the fly makes her an irreplaceable asset in high-stakes situations where hesitation just isn’t an option.
Curb Stomp Cushion: Of all the V7D members who’ve had to square off against Freki before Medea, Nicoletta’s the one who gave him something to remember and the only one who actually managed to land a hit that drew blood, even if it was just a gunshot. Sure, Freki knocked her out cold with a single well-aimed punch, but the Tribal Chief was absolutely livid. The sheer audacity of someone making him bleed in front of his wives and his people (something that hadn’t happened once in the twenty years since he became Chief) had him fuming.
- Read it again, Nicoletta made Freki lose his cool and go apeshit. She made the Tribal Chief lose control of the situation.
Competition Freak: When it comes to volleyball, Nicoletta is an absolute beast - and not in a good way. Back in college, she had a winning streak that would make The Undertaker proud. With a record of 29-0, she was known as "La Palla Demolitrice del Campo," and trust me, that's not a nickname you earn by playing nice. Whether she's spiking the ball or spiking your drink (just kidding, don't sue her), Nicoletta is not someone you want to mess with on the volleyball court.
Colour-Coded Characters: Pink.
Good Is Not Soft: Despite being full of kindness and compassion—and always prioritizing protecting innocents over beating the crap out of criminals—don’t mistake her for a pacifist. When push comes to shove, she’s not the type to stand idly by. She won’t hesitate to unleash a storm of bullets from her gun, Whisper. While the shots themselves aren’t physically lethal, the enchantment on them makes the target feel every bit of the pain as if they were.
“Even the wise tread carefully around three things: the ocean at its worst, the night at its quietest, and a kind woman at her limit.”
Good is Not Dumb: Related to the above. If there’s one thing that’s always been true about Nicoletta, it’s that she believes in second chances. No matter what someone’s done, if there’s even a sliver of real effort to change, she’s the type to give them that shot. To her, redemption’s a choice, and if someone’s willing to make it, they should get the chance. But she’s not naïve. She knows not everyone’s gonna take that opportunity. Some folks will waste it without a second thought, and others? They won’t even fake like they care. She gives the door—but it’s on you to walk through it.
''I know I am a big softie. But I give people chances, not unlimited passes.''
Awesomeness by Analysis: Nicoletta's managed to pick up her skills in martial arts and certain sciences just by devouring books like a madwoman on the topic. When she goes toe-to-toe with the Master Swordsman, Valentino Michelangelo Strafford, she holds her own. But of course, Valentino—being the cocky showoff he is—calls her out for not having that refined, flashy technique you only get from real hands-on practice. And she can't even argue with him. Nicoletta eventually admits that this was her very first swordfight since she's more accustomed to kicking ass with firearms.
Crazy Enough to Work: Nico has this crazy habit of willingly diving headfirst into danger, risking her own neck just to give herself or her crew a shot at taking down their enemies. I mean, seriously, she's like a total adrenaline junkie, always looking for that rush of putting it all on the line.
Women Prefer Strong Men: Nicoletta's taste in men, evidenced by her past relationship with Quincey and her evident interest in Freki's abs, enough to distract her, demonstrate her preference for a more robust, masculine type rather than the delicate, fair-skinned, long-haired fellows:
Nicoletta: ''I just love them brawny, rugged guys. I like a man whose appearance practically yells, "I could carry goats up a mountain." If I'm gonna be with a man, I'll need a man who can wolf down a hefty serving of stew and veggies, father a dozen children like it's no big deal, spend the entire day chopping wood, and still have enough energy to give me a sweet goodnight kiss.''
Foil: Akane and Nicoletta serve as foils to each other in their stories. Both have light-colored hair and hold the position of deuteragonists, receiving only slightly less focus than the main character, who also happens to be their love interest. One common trait is their unwavering protectiveness towards their beloved, leading them to unleash brutal violence upon those who dare to harm them. Additionally, both Akane and Nicoletta hold the position of the youngest child in their respective families, also assuming leadership roles within their groups despite not being the central protagonist. Another intriguing connection between them is their mysterious association with the goddess Laurel.
- Let's delve into the contrasting aspects of Akane and Nicoletta's characters. Although they both hold the role of deuteragonists, their paths diverge significantly. Akane embodies the role of a villain deuteragonist, gradually influencing Anthony towards darker traits such as greed, pride, and an insatiable thirst for power. On the other hand, Nicoletta takes on the mantle of a hero deuteragonist, guiding Medea on a transformative journey towards compassion, companionship, and genuine heroism.
- The contrasting dynamics of their protectiveness can be also understood in context. Akane's fierce protectiveness stems from the fact that, despite Anthony's superior physical strength, he often displays cowardice, making her feel compelled to protect him instinctively. In contrast, Nicoletta's protective instincts towards Medea stem from their deep bond as teammates and eventual lovers, where her role extends beyond mere defence.
- Akane initially presents herself as standoffish and exhibits tsundere tendencies towards Anthony, while Nicoletta consistently displays kindness, warmth, and an affectionate nature towards Medea, even before their romantic feelings develop.
- Furthermore, while Akane's connection to the goddess Laurel is rooted in her wolf nature, serving as a link between them, Nicoletta holds the unique role of being a human incarnation of the goddess herself.
- Akane's limited social skills can be attributed to a laryngeal injury that renders her mute, making verbal communication sometimes challenging for her. This physical limitation forces Akane to rely on alternative means of expressing herself and connecting with others. On the other hand, Nicoletta possesses an innate charisma that shines through her words alone. She effortlessly captivates others with her eloquence and persuasive abilities.
- Akane is clearly a tomboy with a girly streak. She embraces her inner tomboy by displaying qualities such as being adventurous, independent, and unafraid to get her hands dirty. However, Akane shows a love for dresses and has a natural talent for interacting with children, with the implication that she'd like to be a mother again. On the other hand, Nicoletta is a girly girl with a touch of tomboyishness. While she exudes a more feminine and graceful aura, Nicoletta also possesses a competitive spirit and a talent for engaging in athletic endeavors. She's got the moves and the skills to outplay you any day, whether on the field or with a gun.
Birthmark of Destiny: A peculiar diamond-shaped birthmark on the nape of Nicoletta's neck bears a striking resemblance to the pendant worn by Medea. This subtle connection serves as the initial hint of her deep connection with Laurel.
100% Adoration Rating: Because she is a kind person yet willing to be pragmatic and efficient when she has to, she is respected by other members of her family and receives Undying Loyalty from the members of her V7D.
Did You Just Flip Off Cthulhu?: She goads Broken Anthony into the Atlantic War by contacting him, showing him exactly who she is, and telling him to his face she doesn't fear him. Have in mind she has just experienced first hand how Okeanus had not much issue manhandling Asura and Velkai Freki at the same time, and she's doing that to the Sun God that just absorbed said entity's power.
Upbringing Makes the Hero: Nicoletta didn’t need some earth-shattering tragedy to shape her into the person she is today. No nightmarish event pushed her onto the path of heroism—no dead parents in an alleyway, no burning home, no violent betrayal that left her hollow inside. She was simply raised right. Raised with a sense of fairness so ingrained in her bones that ignoring injustice felt unnatural.
Nicolo: ''Go into the world with a good woman's heart, not a hero’s act. Have the courage to think for yourself, the strength to be gentle, and the wisdom to never mistake brutality for righteousness.''
Affectionate Nickname: She never stopped referring to Medea as Nero Angelo once she started. That is, until she started calling her Il Mio Nero Angelo.
Ensemble Dark Horse: During the early stages of Norrington's Desire, she was never supposed to be anything more than a footnote, just a name Medea dropped, a brief mention of an ex and little else.
- She wasn’t designed to last, and, to be honest, her original design didn’t do her any favors either. Too generic, too uninspired. The kind of character you introduce, use for a chapter or two, and then quietly shuffle offstage.
- However, one unexpected redesign later, she came back with a spark; bubblier, sharper, impossible to ignore. Suddenly, she wasn’t just Medea’s ex. She had a place, a purpose, a role bigger than I ever intended for her.
- She wasn’t just a love interest anymore; she was a Deuteragonist, the leader of the V7D, and, in a way, the heart of it all. The kind of person who embodies that classic all-loving heroine archetype but with enough bite to put a bullet in someone if they had it coming.
- And it’s not just Medea she’s helping. Somewhere along the way, she became the one guiding Quincey and Yuki too—pushing them toward something more, something resembling redemption, or at least a reason to keep going. She’s the force pulling them forward, dragging them out of whatever dark hole they’ve buried themselves in, whether they like it or not.
- She’s become so prominent, so vital, that sometimes I have to remind myself that Medea is supposed to be the main character.
Dork Knight: On one hand, Nicoletta is a skilled and dangerous gunslinger, someone you wouldn't want to cross paths with. Yet, on the other hand, she's a cheerful and lighthearted woman who loves to dance, party, and play bass.
Nicoletta is not harmless. She’s good. She’s got a heart of gold, sure. But harmless? Not even close. She’s a technical pacifist, but not because she can’t fight—she’s got more than enough firepower to tear through anything in her way. She just chooses not to. Because she’d rather heal than destroy. Because, to her, only the weak give in to brutality. She let herself go down that road once—just once. And yeah, in the grand scheme of things, it got the job done. But she hated it. Hated what it made her feel, what it made her become. So she swore she’d never let it happen again.
Amicable Exes: Despite the ups and downs they've encountered, Nicoletta and Quincey have remained surprisingly amicable throughout their relationship. Their relationship may have shifted from romantic to strictly platonic, but that doesn’t mean they’re any less tight. They genuinely care about each other and have worked through their differences, proving that sometimes a solid friendship is what really counts.
Pink Means Feminine: Nicoletta's got pink locks that perfectly match her girly, sweet, and graceful demeanor.
Underestimating Badassery: At first, Anthony dismissed her as just some annoying brat getting in the way of his plan to launch a Siege on the House of Laurel. Little did he know, Nicoletta would turn out to be one of the biggest thorns in his side, constantly standing in his way. In fact, she was the first to outsmart Anthony’s Crawling Snake Emperor ability, dodging and moving through his lair without succumbing to her fears. She even got close enough to point her gun at the dragon god by finding a loophole in his fear-inducing power.
Weak, but Skilled: The only one in the V7D that doesn't look like she can take a lot of beating and actually can't take it (Quincey looks like he can, and can, Medea looks like she can't, but can, and Yuki looks like she can't... and can't, but she can return to the fight with blood so, she can-ish).
Nicoletta, by contrast, is essentially a classic Squishy Wizard. Compared to the others, her physical durability is notably lower. However, given that her magic functions more like artillery, she has little reason to place herself on the literal front lines when facing larger threats. That said, she has demonstrated that she can manhandle opponents of comparable size and weight when necessary.
Calling Parents by Their Name: This is a justified case with Nicoletta and her estranged mother. She just keeps disappointing and abandoning her.
Power Glows: Nicoletta’s Whisper constantly emits a soft pinkish glow, its energy humming just beneath the surface. When fully powered, it doesn’t just glow—it pulses and vibrates in a steady rhythm, almost like a heartbeat.
You Are Not Alone: Nicoletta holds this belief close to her heart. She naturally gravitates toward those who have experienced loneliness or lack a strong social network, offering them comfort and a sense of belonging. In many ways, this is how she ended up forming bonds with her V7D teammates.
“They survived long enough to meet me. That means they’re not alone anymore. And I dare you to try and change that.”
Thou Shalt Not Kill: Nicoletta holds this principle close to her heart, and most of the time, she makes it work. It’s part of who she is. But Bomb Nicoletta gives us a glimpse of what she'd be like without that restraint… and to put it lightly, it’s not a pretty sight.
- There have been rare occasions where she felt forced to cross that line. As she confesses to Freki, she’s been tempted—genuinely—but she can’t bring herself to fully abandon her code, no matter how much easier it would be.
- That said, there are exceptions. She killed Mia, but only after giving her multiple chances to walk away or make things right. It was Mia’s confession to drugging and sexually assaulting Medea that finally pushed Nicoletta to act.
- She also vaporized Mariya’s wings, and would have erased her entirely if she hadn’t managed to escape. But even then, those decisions came after exhausting every attempt to offer mercy.
- Nicoletta has no qualms about using lethal force (whether through her Conqueror or Distortion bullets) when dealing with Mawborn demons as she’s seen firsthand just how alien and fundamentally incompatible they are with the Upper World and everything that lives in it. She also understands that demons can’t truly die; they can only be banished back to the Underworld. So, no matter how many times she shoots them or how many limbs get torn apart, it’s only temporary; just enough to buy time for Medea to finish the exorcism. And honestly, it’s also a rare chance for her to cut loose and push Whisper to its limits.
- Midway through Under Siege, Nicoletta starts leaning on her team for moral guidance, deciding that if someone truly needs to be put down for good, it’s a choice the V7D should make together—not one she can carry alone. Because if there’s even a shred of doubt, she can’t bring herself to pull the trigger.
Gentle Giant: Despite being about as tall as your average Italian stallion (and that's without her heels on!), she's sweeter than a cannoli and kinder than Nonna's Sunday gravy.
Messianic Archetype: Of course, not to the extent of Medea. But if the words of Laurel are something to go by, she was not ''simply'' created to be her avatar on Earth:
''Embrace the world, Nicoletta, and find where your compassion and kindness can make a difference. Remember the unique gifts and strengths you possess. The people around you have the potential to be extraordinary if only they had a guiding light. They simply need someone to illuminate the path. It is for this purpose, their inherent goodness, that I have entrusted them with you... my sweet girl.''
Hard-Drinking Party Girl: She admits to enjoying a drink fairly often, but it’s more for socializing than for any addictive reasons. She’s never seen completely drunk, maybe just a little tipsy at most. It’s possible she’s gotten so used to drinking that she can handle it without getting too drunk. After all, she proudly claims she can knock back 7 daiquiris in one sitting.
Cynic–Idealist Duo: At the heart of Nicoletta and Medea’s early relationship struggles lies a fundamental clash in worldviews. Nicoletta instinctively looks for the good in others, while Medea, deeply sceptical by nature, tends to question people’s true motives. This contrast led Medea to quietly wonder, especially in the beginning, whether their relationship could truly last. Fortunately, those doubts never came to pass
The Anti-Nihilist: While she can be a bit idealistic at times, she’s far from naive. She doesn’t buy into the idea that love and peace can magically solve everything, especially after reality starts hitting hard once Medea’s constant chaos begins to mess with the V7D. It’s a tough, unforgiving world, and she gets that now. But even as the battles get bloodier and the weight of fighting demons and other horrors bears down on her, she never backs down. Every fight leaves its mark—scars on her body, exhaustion in her bones, memories she can’t shake—but she refuses to let any of it break her. To Nicoletta, standing your ground and fighting for something, no matter how impossible it seems, will always be better than sitting back and watching the world fall apart.
“You think I don’t see it? The blood, the loss, the pointlessness of it all? I see it every time I close my eyes. But if we let that be the reason we stop fighting—if we just say, ‘This is how it is’—then we’ve already lost. So no, I’m not giving up. Not today. Not while those three are still counting on me to show up.”
Agent Mulder: Nico is easily convinced that there are plenty of demons wandering the mortal realm, making a "demon-hunter" profession seem unusual but not unheard of, unlike the rest. It's likely she thinks this because Nico's brain is wired to adapt to anything related to the Underworld, given who she is.
Deuteragonist: Medea is the main hero of the story, and her actions drive both the plot and Nicoletta’s goals. However, both of them get equal screen time in Under Pressure, and for much if not most of the story, it's actually Nicoletta who's calling the shots on the missions, often delivering the coup de grace to their opponents. She also pulls off major feats worthy of a main character, including, but not limited to, bypassing Anthony’s Crawling Snake Emperor ability.
Action Girlfriend: Medea seems to have a type with colourful ladies who can make her feel protected.
A Big Sister to Her Men: She consistently proves her willingness to go above and beyond, even risking her own life for her comrades. She doesn't feel the need to take credit for their achievements, letting them enjoy their own glory. It’s clear she’s had plenty of practice, as she’s incredibly friendly with the people in her community, who trust her deeply.
Tomboyish Ponytail: Downplayed; when she is leading the action, she wears her hair in a ponytail to keep it out of the way, but she wears it loose when she is not fighting. Personality-wise, she's more of a Lady of War than a tomboy.
Supporting Leader: Medea may be the protagonist, but as the leader of The V7D, she calls the shots on the field.
Nay-Theist: Heavily Downplayed. Nicoletta is well aware of Laurel and Anthony's rank, powers, and their status in the hierarchy, but she doesn't see them as gods. They're exceptionally powerful beings who happen to control both the Upper and Under Worlds, but to her, that doesn't make them any different from a CEO.
Genki Girl: An adult example. When she's not commanding the hunt, or blasting her firearm Whisper, she's a bit of a spaz, bouncing around like a kid hopped up on pixie sticks.
Improbable Aiming Skills: Nicoletta can control both the trajectory and speed of Whisper's bullets after firing them. Mid-flight, she can adjust their speed, making them as fast as a regular speeding bullet or slow them down to a crawl, usually as an intimidation tactic. She even enjoys firing a dozen slow-motion bullets in front of an opponent, telling them that no matter how slow they seem, once they hit your skin, they’ll pierce you just like a regular bullet—only slower, making it hurt more.
Supporting Protagonist: Nicoletta is mostly a realized main character from the get-go; her personality and her moral compass are basically complete and on track. Nicoletta's meaningful development currently is moving forward with her protection of Italy and caring for and helping her more fucked up V7D teammates, especially Medea, she is the one in need of several developments as the girl has a lot of problems and issues to be dealt with first before Medea actually succeeds in her quest. She is the V7Ds guide in moving forward towards growing as a character, slowly but surely eliminating her issues.
One Head Taller: They say good things come in small packages, but when it comes to Nicoletta, good things come in tall packages! At 5'5'', Medea is practically a shrimp next to her, struggling to even reach her neck.
How They Treat the Help: Back home in Florence, she could walk through the busiest streets, the quietest alleys, and still have a kind word for somebody. A fruit vendor setting up his stall at dawn? She’ll greet him before he even sees her coming. A seamstress hurrying by with an armful of fabric? Nicoletta will ask if she’s getting enough rest. Even the beggar by the bridge, the one most people pretend not to see—she knows his name, knows when he last had a good meal, and will probably make sure he gets another one before the day is done. But it’s not just that she remembers people. It’s the way she treats them, like each one of them matters. No one is too small, too unimportant. An important businessman, a guy struggling to get to the bus, a child selling flowers on the street—she’ll speak to them all the same way. And if you so much as lift a finger to help her or anyone else, she’ll never let it go unthanked.
Rose-Haired Sweetie: In contrast to her black-haired girlfriends, her pretty pink hair highlights her joyful, nice girl nature.
Firing One-Handed: Nicoletta has no problem firing Whisper with one hand, even while pulling off crazy acrobatics, without messing up her aim. Then again, it makes sense—Whisper’s a magical gun, and it basically has zero recoil.
Battle Couple: With Medea, her girlfriend. Although the human does the more "physical" part of a battle.
Light Feminine and Dark Feminine: Nico is a sweet-tempered and archetypal Beware the Nice Ones, making her the Light Feminine, while Medea is an aloof and imposing Lady of War, making her the Dark Feminine.
Red Oni, Blue Oni: The red to Medea's blue. She's passionate and energetic, while Medea is calm and cool.
Pink Heroine: Nico has pink hair and serves as the leader as well as most unambiguously heroic member of The V7D.
Action Girl: She's a talented gunslinger who has often saved Medea's life throughout the book. Sure, she might not have Medea's angelic grace from the Underworld, but she's got skills, precision, and a trigger finger that never misses. When shit hits the fan, Nico's the one you want by your side, guns blazing and enemies dropping.
Heroes Love Dogs: She was happily surprised to know Medea had adopted Akira, the American Akita that used to belong to Emma Norrington, Jr..
Did You Just Punch Out Cthulhu?: Nicoletta, a young woman with no (born) powers, made Freki du Cronos bleed thanks to Whisper's bullets.
All-Loving Heroine: Nicoletta is the kind of heroine who doesn’t just save people—she stays with them. She lets them cling to her, holding onto her like she’s the only solid thing in a world that nearly swallowed them whole. It doesn’t matter who they are—an old man who barely made it out alive, a child too scared to cry, someone who can’t stop shaking long after the danger has passed. She stays. If they need thirty minutes, she gives them thirty minutes. If they need longer, well, she’s never been one to pull away first. And even if she offers empathy for criminal's Freudian Excuses, she is still capable of expressing hatred. She’s also not above using Whisper to make people feel the pain of a bullet to the heart or head, especially if they’re Beyond Redemption. The bullets are magical, so while your body remains mostly unharmed, you’ll still experience the sensation of a gunshot—painful, but not fatal.
- While Nicoletta will fight to protect others, her goal is rarely to hurt the villain; it's to stop them from causing harm. She always tries to end conflicts with minimal violence, using as few bullets as possible, even when her opponent is beating on her. She’d rather take the pain herself than cause unnecessary harm, and she’ll save the villain without hesitation if it’s possible. That said, push her too far, and you might just see a side of the V7D's Conquest that’s a lot less forgiving...
Conscience Makes You Go Back: Medea ordered her to leave her and the Underworld to handle the siege of the du Cronos Dynasty. She returned to aid the Underworld, which promoted her and The V7D from simple allies to legitimate members of the House of Laurel.
Proud Beauty: A downplayed example. In a society that often places excessive emphasis on superficial qualities, she embraces the notion that true beauty extends beyond the surface. While she acknowledges the allure of physical attractiveness, she firmly believes that inner qualities such as kindness, compassion, and intelligence are equally important. She thinks it's totally cool to have the whole package, inside and out. Who says you can't have brains, hearts, and killer looks all at once? Embrace it, folks!
Fastest Gun in The West: If we consider Whisper to be a magical gun, then Nicoletta is probably the quickest magic user in the series when it comes to casting or summoning. Even seasoned opponents struggle to defend themselves when they're staring right at her, because they can’t even catch her preparatory movements. It’s a huge advantage when you can summon the gun to your hand whenever you want.
The Fettered: In stark contrast to her beloved Medea. Nico tries really hard to be like this, although her teammates (especially Medea herself) have pointed out that there are situations where it just isn't practical and could lead to even bigger problems later on. She's learning to loosen those chains a bit and is willing to compromise when it's going to pay off in the long run.
''She refuses to let power be an excuse for cruelty. If she’s going to be powerful, it’ll be for the right reasons—to protect, to heal, to choose kindness when the world gives her every reason not to.''
Big Eater: Nico likes to eat a lot, especially sweets and junk food.
Puppy-Dog Eyes: Despite putting up a tough front, Medea can't resist the power of Nico's puppy-dog face. Medea can stare down demons, make deals with creatures most people would run screaming from, and walk through the freezing winds of Hell without flinching, but put her in front of Nicoletta with those big, pleading eyes, and she’s toast. No amount of bravado or sheer willpower can hold up against it.
Good Stepmother: Claudia Castagnoli married Nicoletta's father when Nicoletta was just seven, and from the start, she had little to no trouble bonding with her new stepchildren. If anything, it felt less like she was stepping into an existing family and more like she was helping build something new. Nicoletta and her older brother, Nicolás, barely had time to dwell on the absence of their biological mother before Claudia stepped in—not as a replacement, but as someone who genuinely wanted to be there for them. And she was. Patient, kind, and unwavering in her love, she gave them everything they needed: stability, guidance, and a warmth that never felt forced. In time, any distinction between "stepmother" and "mother" faded into irrelevance. To Nicoletta, she was simply "Mum."
- Years later, Nicoletta would find herself walking a similar path—one that would make Claudia proud. Nicoletta had been understandably shaken when she first realized the disturbing nature of the child's conception. It wasn’t the kind of situation anyone could prepare for, and she had every reason to want to keep her distance. But she didn’t. Because the child wasn’t to blame. Because, even before the decision was made, Nicoletta knew one thing for certain—if Medea chose to raise Yoru, then she would be right there beside her, ready to nurture the hell out of that girl.
She's Got Legs: Skirts and skimpy dresses highlight her long legs.
Technical Pacifist: Nicoletta might stick firmly to her no-kill policy, but don’t let that fool you—she’ll make sure you feel like you brushed up against death itself. Her signature weapon, Whisper, has a special "ghost bullet" mode. These shots don’t break skin or draw a single drop of blood, but they hit with surgical precision. Each one is aimed at pressure points, disrupting blood flow and short-circuiting nerve signals. One moment, you're upright and confident—then, suddenly, your body locks up, cold and unresponsive, as if it no longer belongs to you.
- And just when you think it can’t get worse, it does—your heart stops. Just for a second. But in that suspended heartbeat, your entire system screams in terror. Your mind goes into full survival panic while your body refuses to move.
- Then your heart restarts, your limbs eventually listen again. No permanent harm. Still technically nonlethal. But the psychological trauma? That lingers. Most people walk away from the experience reconsidering every choice that led them to cross her.
- It also influences her hand-to-hand combat. When forced into melee combat, she blends gun fu with judo—a martial art whose name literally means “the gentle way.” Judo isn’t about brute force or domination; it’s about control, balance, and redirection. Its philosophy revolves around using an opponent’s own movements against them, neutralizing a threat while minimizing injury. That’s exactly why Nicoletta chose it. It aligns perfectly with her values: she wants to end fights efficiently, without unnecessary harm, and without losing control to emotion or violence.
Magnetic Hero: She's the leader of the V7D for a reason, and it's not just because she's got killer moves. It's her heroic aura that really just makes her. She's got this uncanny ability to inspire and rally the troops, making you feel like you're part of something epic. She's the one who got the whole crew, even someone as hard to deal with as Medea, to believe in second chances and fighting for a shot at redemption.
Fatal Flaw: The very quality that makes Nicoletta the heart of the V7D is also what puts her—and the team—at risk. Her unwavering commitment to her personal ideals and sense of right and wrong, while often admirable, can also be a major liability. Nicoletta firmly believes that doing what she feels is right is non-negotiable, even when others plead for caution or compromise.
- You could say she lives by a version of Mark Twain’s principle: when the whole world pushes her to back down, she believes it’s her unshakable right—as leader—to plant her feet and say, “No. You move.” And, more often than not, she has good reason to take that stand.
- But this same moral stubbornness has also escalated conflicts that could’ve been resolved more peacefully. Whether it’s clashing with allies over tactics or refusing to negotiate with enemies willing to talk, her refusal to yield—even in moments that call for diplomacy—can make her as much a catalyst for tension as she is a symbol of strength for her team.
Opposites Attract: With Medea. She is spontaneous, quick-tempered, and passionate, whereas Medea is analytical, pragmatic, and premeditated.
The Gunslinger: of The V7D. She is never seen during a mission without her summonable gun Whisper.
Disappeared Mom: Nicoletta's biological mother, Claudia, bailed on her when she was a wee little thing. But thankfully, her dad Nicolo remarried a total gem of a woman who became the mother she deserved.
Affectionate Nickname: She is usually called ''Nico'' by almost everyone... except Medea, who prefers to use her full name, Nicoletta.
Daddy's Girl: She has a close and loving relationship with her father, and wants to live up to his standards as a leader.
Weapon-Based Characterization: Nicoletta’s signature weapon is Whisper, a magical gun that can shift into any kind of handgun, though she typically shapes it into a variety of flintlock pistols—the kind used in the pirate days. This isn't just a stylistic choice, Whisper was created after Nicoletta inherited a family heirloom, a real miquelet flintlock pistol that once belonged to her ancestor, pirate captain Giovanni Adolini. When Nicoletta touched the pistol, the gun responded by literally fusing with her hand, as if it were being absorbed into her. This transformation turned it into the magical, summonable weapon we see today.
Badass Family: Her girlfriend is the Nero Angelo, her adopted son is the heir to the mantle of Nero Angelo and her whole family is full of big military names.
Even the Loving Hero has Hated Ones: It requires a great deal to make Nicoletta truly despise someone. However, despite the effort it takes, it's possible to reach that point, and there are at least two individuals who succeeded in pushing Nicoletta's limits.
- Interestingly, it's not Medea who truly hates Mia. Even though Mia's obsession is directed towards Medea rather than Nicoletta, it's Nicoletta who can't tolerate Mia. The fact that Mia is the only character who has almost pushed Nicoletta to break her no-kill policy speaks volumes, with Nicoletta having her finger on the trigger, the gun pressed against Mia's forehead, and a look of intense fury in her eyes.
You Gotta Have Blue Hair: Despite having brunette parents, Nicoletta's hair is naturally pink, which is quite unusual. The reason behind this anomaly lies in her unique identity as the human Incarnation of Laurel, a goddess. Rather than inheriting physical traits from her human parents' DNA, Nicoletta's body serves as a perfect reflection of the goddess herself, resulting in her distinctive pink hair.
God in Human Form: Laurel created Nicoletta because she wanted to experience the thrill of world-travelling and living free, without the responsibilities of being a goddess, though there might also be a different reason. She's the embodiment of Laurel's deepest dream, living out her vida loca.
Last Kiss: Nico gives Medea what seemed to be their last kiss before Laurel and her merge into Asura and she becomes the acting Ruler of the Underworld.
Ideal Heroine: Heart of Gold? Check. Nice Girl? Check. The Fettered? Check. Nicoletta has some flaws but nothing that'd make her jump to an outright anti-heroine. Yes, she may stand by and look away as her teammates slaughter all of their foes in often horrifying ways, but none of that takes away from the fact that she is working to make her whole homeland (and eventually the mortal realm itself) a safer place.
What the Hell, Hero?: When Laurel first meets Nicoletta, Nicoletta reacts to her with frustration and confrontation rather than reverence. She harshly questions Laurel for the way she treated Medea during the four years they lived together in the Norrington household. Nicoletta accuses her of being cold and hypocritical, especially in the way Laurel claimed to be “teaching Medea lessons” while emotionally neglecting her. Instead of being in awe, fearful, or grateful about being created as Laurel’s human avatar, Nicoletta is clearly uncomfortable and wary of the idea.
Willfully Weak: Armed with Whisper’s conqueror bullets, Nicoletta could theorerically wipe out virtually any opponent below the top-tier class: dragons, demons, vampires. After all, these rounds are anti-personnel warheads in disguise, packing the kinetic force of a close-range military shotgun. But she rarely ever uses them. She can't. Nicoletta operates under a rigid code: brutality is a crutch, and real strength means never needing to rely on it. In her eyes, those who resort to raw violence have already lost control.
“You say I’m holding back. That if I really wanted to, I could end it all with a single round. And you're probably right. But if ending it was all that mattered, then I wouldn’t be me. I don’t fight to destroy. I fight to preserve what little light is left in the world. Whisper’s Conqueror bullets are not my ammo. They're my reminder—of what I could become if I ever stopped caring.”
Curtains Match The Window: Her hair and eye colors are both pink, much like Laurel's when she is tapping into her true dragon form. Although different shades of pink, with her hair being bright, almost lavender pink, and her eyes being almost magenta.
Humans Are Flawed: Nicoletta's views on humanity change throughout the story.
- At first, she holds an idealistic belief that there’s something uniquely special or good about humans.
- But as she witnesses more of the world's cruelty and destruction, she starts to see that humans are capable of terrible things — that the capacity for monstrosity doesn’t come from demons or outsiders, but from within our own kind.
- By the end of the Atlantic War, she comes to understand that humanity, at its core, is still primitive, impulsive, and often driven by violence. However, despite this, Nicoletta doesn’t give up on us. She chooses to stay committed to loving humanity, not because we’re perfect, but because she believes we can be better. Her faith endures because she’s seen people — rare, remarkable people — who embody the very best of what humanity could be.
Identical Stranger: Nicoletta and Laurel might as well be long-lost twins, separated at birth! They look almost identical, except for Nicoletta's different hairstyle and eye color. And the reason for this "doppelganger" situation? Well, it turns out Nicoletta is the human incarnation of Laurel herself.
Gun Fu: Nicoletta's combat prowess hinges heavily on her mastery of the firearm Whisper, so this is no surprise. With her signature blend of Gun Fu and Combat Parkour, she’s not just some gunslinger; she’s an acrobatic whirlwind. Imagine her flipping through the air, rolling across the battlefield, and leaping off walls, all while taking down hordes of enemies with pinpoint accuracy, barely breaking a sweat.
In-Series Nickname: Once the Power Trio became a Four-Soldier Army, she decided to use the Horsemen of Apocalypse codenames, hers being Conquest.
Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Magnificent at her jobs, but it comes so naturally to her that she doesn't have the patience to actually work through hunts when she isn't instantly successful. She tends to goof off and play around at work, particularly reenacting her many favorite cowboy films.
Boisterous Bruiser: Downplayed compared to Quincey, but still there. She's got an amazing vibe, is always full of energy, and can kick some serious ass.
Cool Gun: Whisper, an elaborate, ornately-designed Hand Cannon Flintlock pistol that Nicoletta can draw to her hand so fast that it looks out of nowhere (in the manner of a Quick Draw), and with bullets she can directly control in flight.
Tomato in the Mirror: She reacts poorly to realizing that she is a human incarnation create with Laurel's essence. She went through this phase where she started questioning everything—her own choices, her purpose in life, even her own damn emotions. She got better, fortunately.
Morality Pet: Acts as this throughout the series. In all honesty, without her influence, characters like Medea, Miyuki, and Quincey would come across as far more ruthless and difficult to sympathize with. She’s the emotional anchor of the group — the one who constantly pulls them back from the brink when they’re about to give in to their darker instincts. Nicoletta reminds them of their humanity, even when they’re on the verge of abandoning it. Her steady presence, empathy, and refusal to give up on them are what make their personal growth possible.
ND10s TROPES:
Freudian Excuse: It's all but said out loud that the death of her child had a serious effect on her, which explains why she didn't accept Jonathan as her son for quite some time.
Mama Bear: Seeing Jonathan being chased by demons or threatened by muggers makes her instinctively draw Whisper and prepare to shoot, even if she’s still figuring out her feelings towards Jonathan as a son. Because he knows how much he means to her wife, and that’s enough to ignite a fierce desire to keep him safe.
Almighty Mom: Nicoletta is, for all intents and purposes, the one who keeps the Argento household running smoothly. She may always consult Medea before making any major decisions, but there’s no denying she’s the quiet center of gravity everyone orbits around. Whether consciously or not, the whole family tends to align themselves with her rhythm, what she approves of, what she expects, what she quietly encourages.
Happily Married: By the end of Under World, Medea and Nicoletta have been married for eleven years—and their connection hasn’t wavered one bit. Fast-forward to the events of ND10, and they’ve added another five years to that commitment. Sure, they’ve faced their share of hardships: the heartbreak of losing their only biological child, the challenges of raising Yoru, and adjusting to Jonathan joining their home. But despite everything, there’s a deep, unshaking respect between them. When tensions rise—as they sometimes do—they don’t lash out. Instead, they choose to talk it through. And when they can’t? They give each other the space to breathe, to cool off, to come back with clearer heads. No marriage is without flaws—but theirs? It’s built to last. Solid. Resilient. Real.
I Just Want to be Normal: Downplayed. Unlike Medea, Nicoletta doesn’t feel her duties have been fulfilled once the War was over. She’s also not sitting around wishing her magic would disappear anytime soon. That said, nowadays, she’s content just being Nicoletta Argento. No lofty titles. No crushing responsibilities—just the ones she’s chosen for herself. Raising the kids she and Medea have taken in. Building a life out of the ruins they survived. Something steady. Something warm. The world still spins, and trouble still finds its way into the cracks, but she’s not actively seeking it out anymore. That doesn’t mean she’ll ignore it if it comes knocking. If something goes down in front of her, if someone needs help, if the past tries to claw its way back into her present, well… Nicoletta’s never been one to look the other way.
Strong and Skilled: By ND10, Nicoletta’s got 15 years of crimefighting and demon-slaying under her belt—many of those battles fought solo without her team to back her up. Over the years, she hasn’t just relied on the power of her magic gun; she’s picked up a ton of technique from Quincey, too. You can see it in her fight with vampire-berserker Juni: while Juni’s throwing punches and slashing like a wild animal, Nicoletta’s using grapples, joint locks, and slick combos—showing off just how far she’s come.
Good Parents: With Yoru, Nicoletta is the ultimate doting mom.
- She’s warm, attentive, and always ready with advice or comfort. She’s the one gently nudging Medea to stay emotionally present, reminding her (sometimes more than once) that Yoru isn’t to blame for what Mariya did. The child deserves love, not the weight of someone else’s trauma.
- But with her adopted son Jonathan? Well, let's just say things were a little more complicated. When Medea brought him home without warning, Nicoletta’s first instinct wasn’t exactly maternal. She didn’t know this boy, didn’t understand his place in their lives—and after everything they’d been through, that hesitation made sense. But over time, that guardedness gave way to something quieter, something gentler. She didn’t force a connection, but she didn’t push him away either. And slowly, she found herself stepping into a maternal role again—offering advice, setting boundaries, being a presence he could count on. because let's be real, even if you didn't give birth to them, kids are still gonna be kids, and they'll still need their mom's help every once in a while.
Outliving One's Offspring: When she and Medea lost their biological child, Gerard, during childbirth, it left a massive hole in her heart. That experience was devastating. And even though time moved on, that loss made it hard for her to open her heart completely to Jonathan. There was always a quiet, nagging fear: that by giving too much of herself to this new child, she might feel like she was trying to replace the one she lost. And she wasn’t ready to forgive herself for even thinking that.
- Curiously, her bond with Yoru came a bit more naturally. Partly because Medea had no say in taking Yoru in. But also, Yoru being a girl created a bit of emotional distance from the memory of Gerard. It didn’t feel like a replacement. It felt... different. And maybe that’s what made it easier.
That Thing is Not My Child!: Nicoletta, still reeling from the loss of her stillborn child, couldn't bring herself to accept Jonathan as her son. When Medea brought him home without even consulting her first, it felt like a fresh wound was torn open. Nicoletta understood that Medea’s intentions were good, but that didn’t change the fact that the topic of children was still far too painful for her to handle.
That said, even if Nicoletta felt emotionally distant at first, she was never unkind to Jonathan. She didn’t take her grief out on him, never snapped or raised her voice. She just... needed time. Space to work through everything she was feeling. Still, she didn't want any harm to come to him and gradually started to warm up to him.
Break the Badass: Downplayed. Nicoletta was never naïve. From the very beginning of Under Pressure, she knew the world she was stepping into. But early on, there was a softness to her—a quiet warmth and compassion that stood out amid the chaos. As the story progresses, that softness doesn’t vanish, but it evolves. Experience doesn’t harden her, exactly, but it does ground her. Not hardened, but sobered by everything she's been through.
Through all the horror, the loss, the impossible choices—her compassion never fades. Her heart stays intact. But the emotional cost is undeniable. She’s seen too much. She's lost too many. And when the War finally ends, she and her comrades don’t walk away feeling victorious. They walk away feeling... exhausted. drained. Alive, yes. Together again, yes. But celebration feels wrong, almost disrespectful. Like joy would somehow erase the weight of those who didn’t make it back.
One moment, in particular, never stops weighing on her: the night she killed Mia. It wasn’t planned—it was pure rage. Mia had drugged Medea’s drink with the intent to rape her, and Nicoletta snapped. She doesn't pretend Mia didn’t deserve consequences. But the fact that she let go of her restraint—that she gave in to fury and violence—sticks with her. Nicoletta has always believed that true strength lies in the ability to stay kind in a cruel world. But that night, Mia forced her to be something else. And for Nicoletta, that wasn’t strength. That was a kind of weakness she still hasn’t fully forgiven herself for.
