ND: 10 Years Later TV Tropes

Tropes applying for the Next Generation of Norrington's Desire's Main Characters:

TROPES APPLYING TO THE MAIN TRIO:

Interspecies Friendship: The core trio includes Jonathan, the human newcomer to the Norrington household, and Yoru, a morally gray but not outright evil demon girl—both of them are children of our old friend Medea. Then there’s Juni, a hybrid of vampire, dragon, human, and wolf, entrusted to Medea by Freki. From the looks of it, Juni and Jonathan might just be moving from interspecies friendship into the interspecies romance territory.

Aristocrat Team: Members of the entire team are either of notable bloodlines or have Blue Blood.

Legacy Team: The team is a spiritual successor of the V7D, with both of Medea's children and Freki's daughter.

 JUNI'S TV TROPES (Juni Moriarty)

Happily Adopted: Juni was raised by her aunt Megan, who adopted her after her mother, Mary, passed away during childbirth. Alongside her father, Freki, Megan brought Juni up as their own, leading her to believe that Mary was just her aunt for most of her life.

Hot-Blooded: It runs In the Blood after all. She is significantly more expressive than her father's subdued form of hot-bloodedness. Not unlike her mother's demeanour.

Date Rape Averted: Juni once came to Jonathan's rescue during a night out when he was out, missing, drunk and vulnerable to potential sexual assault. She didn’t hesitate—sinking her teeth into the creep’s neck to get them off him and then hauling Jonathan back home. Once there, she stayed by his side, cuddling him until he sobered up.

Tiny Tyrannical Girl: She is noticeably shorter than the other members of the main cast and the majority of the other characters in the series owing to her height of 5'1", but because of her short temper and stubborn spirit, she still manages to scare others.

Give Her a Normal Life: Freki still keeps in touch with Juni, and they see each other at least once a week if possible. But he pretty much insisted she stay with the Norringtons because he wanted her to have a shot at a normal family life—something his nonstop duties as Tribal Chief couldn’t provide. Later on, Juni found out there was more to it. Turns out, Freki carried a lot of guilt over how he’d treated his older son, James, and was worried he’d mess things up with her too. So, he placed her with Medea’s family, knowing she’d not only be cared for but also benefit from the guidance of the one woman who’d actually managed to beat him in a fair fight.

The Nose Knows: Juni's got a nose that puts the rest of us to shame. Her sense of smell is off the charts, way better than her old man's. With just a sniff, she can tell your blood type and track you down like it's no big deal. And she doesn't even need you to be bleeding or anything. She can catch a whiff of your scent and follow it with precision. Her nose is like a superpower. She can pick up the faintest of scents that no one else can even detect. It makes her a total beast when it comes to hunting and tracking. She can also sniff out clues and make deductions that would make Hercule Poirot proud, all based on nothing but the power of her nose.

What Beautiful Eyes!: When it comes to Juni, her fiery spirit is matched only by her fiery eyes! Jonathan was first drawn to her scarlet peepers, which seemed to glow with an intensity that could light up the night sky.

Be Careful What You Wish For: She had always longed to use whatever vampire power she could have inherited. When she discovers the savage brutality of her vampiric Superpowered Evil Side, however, she changes her mind.

Rebellious Princess: Juni, being Freki's kid, could be deemed the "Princess of the du Cronos Dynasty" without any fuss, and true to her lineage as the granddaughter of Anthony du Cronos, she's a bit of a wild child.

Red Is Heroic: She has blood-red eyes, and a black sweater with a red stripe that matches her deceased mother's witch attire, and is one of the primary protagonists of the follow-up.

Wacky Parent, Serious Child: Inverted with both her parents, the upbeat, loud, Hot-Blooded, easily-distracted protagonist and her calm, straightforward and serious parents. This might be the first hint that Mary is her biological mother.

Only Known by Their Nickname: With the possible exception of her parents, hardly anyone ever calls her Juniper.

Unkempt Beauty: She is really pretty and adorable in an untamed way despite the fact that she is a she-wolf and doesn't have time to focus on her beauty. Not to mention, She Cleans Up Nicely on the one occasion when she has to dress up.

Ambiguous Criminal History: Juni brags about her willingness to kill humans, but when flashbacks show her being trained by her father to hunt in the mountains, the only instances of killing that are shown involve animals for food. Whether she’s actually harmed any humans or is just letting her notoriously bad lying skills run wild—that’s for you to figure out.

Embarrassing First Name: Well, it seems that Juni's mother was feeling pretty nostalgic about her steamy encounter with Freki under the juniper tree when she named her daughter. I suppose you could say that Juni's conception was quite literally rooted in passion! It's a bit of a twisted and darkly humorous backstory, but hey, it's all in good fun, right?

Chuunibyou: Again, not unlike her ancestors before her, she's got a major ego, always hyping herself up and boasting about her power like she's the absolute queen of the universe. It can get on your nerves at times, but there are moments when her self-assuredness and shameless self-promotion are strangely endearing. Even if you don't fully believe her hype, you can't help but appreciate her charismatic swagger.

Big Eater: This is one of her most well-known characteristics. She's a meat lover through and through, devouring any kind of meat that crosses her path. But when it comes to liver, she wrinkles her nose in disgust. It's the one exception to her carnivorous cravings, as she just can't stomach the taste of livers.

Heroic Comedic Sociopath: Juni's character often provides comic relief in the series through her lack of adherence to social and moral norms. She is a spontaneous and aggressive individual who rarely considers the consequences of her actions, which frequently leads to unpredictable and sometimes chaotic situations. Anthony clearly approves.

Annoying Younger Sibling: Although it is possible that she may have exhibited similar behaviour towards her half-brother James, it is uncertain since, by the time ND10 occurs, James is operating independently beyond the confines of the du Cronos Dynasty's territory. Therefore, we cannot confirm whether or not she was also a bratty little sister to him.

Restraining Bolt: In order to prevent her vampiric Superpowered Evil Side from gaining control, she wears a necklace/headgear that serves as a type of suppressant. By wearing this accessory, she is able to keep her dark and dangerous side at bay and maintain a semblance of control.

Animal Motifs: Wolves, for obvious reasons.

Death Glare: Invoked by Juni on occasions, she utilizes a "wolf gaze" she acquired from her father to intimidating others, albeit it isn't as effective because she isn't a 7ft tall hunk with black sclera. When she removes her necklace/headgear and changes into a dhampir, her default stare is fucking horrifying.

Animal Talk: Juni's got this ability to talk to snakes and other creepy-crawly creatures, thanks to her grandpa. It’s not quite like the full-on command her dad and Anthony have, though. When they call on snakes, it’s more like an order—no questions asked, no hesitation. But for Juni, it’s more like a polite request. She’ll ask, and the snakes will usually listen, though there’s always a chance one might just slither away or outright refuse. That said, most of the time, they go along with whatever she says, probably because they sense her lineage and respect her enough to comply.

Noble Wolf: Much like her ancestors Akane and Freki du Cronos, she's an arctic wolf, but she's also easily the friendliest and most heroic member of the du Cronos Dynasty... which is not saying much.

Hidden Depths: Juni's remarkable abilities as a detective are often on display, thanks in part to her acute sense of smell. By relying on her olfactory senses, she is able to deduce and analyze a wide range of information, which helps keep her and her associates out of harm's way. As a result, the trio is rarely caught off-guard or taken by surprise.

Cute Bruiser: This wolf pup is adorable, but she is very well-versed in self-defence courtesy of being trained by her dad, enough to push Lady of War Medea to the limit and be considered a threat.

Strong Family Resemblance: With her distinct hair and eye colour, as well as her complexion and clothing choices, she bears a striking resemblance to a feral, female wolf version of her mother Mary.

Daddy's Girl: As the proud papa wolf, Freki has got his daughter's back no matter what. He's always there to give her a boost of confidence and remind her of her inner strength and abilities.

Clingy Jealous Girl: Juni is easily threatened if it appears that someone is attempting to jeopardize her status as Jonathan's best friend.

Little Miss Badass: She might be 157 cm/5'2'', but she is a du Cronos she-wolf and isn't someone you want to mess with.

One Head Taller: With Jonathan, who is 180 cm/5'11'', while she's only 157 cm/5'1''.

It Was a Gift: Juni’s signature necklace-crown-headset isn’t just a stylish accessory—it has deep sentimental value. The unique piece was a gift from her beloved Aunt Mary, who she later discovers is actually her biological mother. Learning the truth about her real parentage makes the heirloom even more meaningful, and Juni treasures it as a link to the mother she never got to know

Badass Family: Her father is the du Cronos Dynasty's Head, her paternal grandparent is a deity, her grandmother was an alpha wolf, and her mother was a brilliant magician.

Dhampyr: Very downplayed considering that her mother is the dhampir rather than a full-fledged vampire. She doesn’t have any abilities outside her wolf lineage and is really more of a tracker and support in combat than an actual fighter. The only sign of her vampire heritage is her mother’s blood-red eyes. But if someone removes her necklace or headgear, she transforms into a full vampire.

Always Save the Girl: Genderflippped; Juni will do anything to save her boy! However, Jonathan has returned her the favour on occasion.

My Instincts Are Showing: Played with. She actually seems to enjoy letting her wolf-like side out and howling now and then but suppressed it out of fear over her other powers. Despite coming to terms with herself, she still only lets them show up in front of Jonathan, and eventually Yoru too.

Superpowered Evil Side: She inherited more power from her vampire grandfather than her strangely mixed human/dragon/wolf body can handle. Once this power is awakened by the complete fear of dying, if it's not kept sealed each time she draws upon it degrades her sanity and drives her into fits of feral Unstoppable Rage that can only be controlled by her necklace's anti-monster barrier.

Guile Hero: While not to the degree of her grandfather, Juni can think up some fairly inventive tactics to beat an opponent.

Green-Eyed Monster: Her wolf instincts make her naturally territorial, so she gets jealous pretty easily. When Jonathan returns from a trip to visit his adoptive grandparents in Italy, Juni casually asks if he made “any new best friends” over there. Even though Jonathan assures her he didn’t, she spends the rest of the day sulking and acting like a jealous girlfriend.

Teens Are Short: Given that Juni is two years younger than Jonathan, it's no surprise that only Yoru is shorter than her, by virtue of being a preteen.

Evil Mentor: Anthony is shown to be incredibly interested in Juni, and while never kickstarting the transformation into a dhampir, the sun god is always there to advise Juni to dive into the bloodlust and carnage it comes with.

Defence Mechanism Superpower: Her vampire form activates whenever she's in life-threatening danger and doesn't have the necklace created by Mary on her body.

Emotional Bruiser: Juni is a fierce, self-assured she-wolf who can withstand strikes from a true hellhound. Juni is still a very sensitive, empathetic little pup, nevertheless.

Furry Reminder: She occasionally does things that serve as a reminder that she is a she-wolf.

Anti-Hero: Classic du Cronos fashion, Juni is quite rambunctiously destructive even while being firmly a member of the protagonist trio and is generally quite interested in killing any demon or threat she's sent after. However, she's by far the least antagonistic du Cronos shown.

Cute Little Fangs: She has prominent fangs because of her wolf blood. They also suit her energetic character.

Awesome, but Impractical: Juni's necklace/headset is not just a mere accessory. It serves as her safeguard from transforming into a dhampir. However, if someone takes it off, it can awaken her dormant vampiric powers for a brief 10-minute window. The catch is that the power surge will render her so weak that she'll be unconscious for the rest of the day. To make matters worse, she can go berserk, making her a potential threat to her teammates if they come too close.

Dork Knight: On the one hand, she's a ferocious she-wolf with dragon and vampire ancestry that you don't want to mess with. She's also a huge dork, a jealous friend with her two boys, and a terrible mood reader.

Red Eyes, Take Warning: Inherited her mother's blood-red eyes, which can glow in the dark (the only dragon heritage she received).

Blessed with Suck: Recklessness in her dhampir form causes her to lose herself, being overwhelmed by her vampiric blood, which is why Mary devised her necklace to seal such powers with the necessity to remove it in order to release them.

Shipper on Deck: Almost everyone has taken it upon himself to play matchmaker for Jonathan and Juni, but it looks like he's not the only one with their eye on the prize. Nicoletta catches on real quick to the fact that her adopted son has got a big crush on Juni, and she slyly lends him a hand in scoring a date with her at school. And then there's Medea, giving Jonathan a pep talk when he starts freaking out about not being worthy of Juni, especially after witnessing her vampire transformation. It seems everyone wants those two together.

Power Limiter: Mary designed a necklace or headgear for Juni while she was pregnant to prevent her vampiric blood from emerging and causing her to lose herself. But taking off that jewellery would make her metamorphosis happen abruptly.

Waif-Fu: Despite being a very thin young cub, Juni is capable of fighting just as well as the rest of the du Cronos Dynasty.

Heinz Hybrid: Even though she mostly looks like a she-wolf, it's safe to point out that she is the daughter of a dhampir, and her paternal grandparent is a dragon. Therefore Juni is a half she-wolf, part dragon, part human, and part vampire.

Signature Headgear: Juni's necklace can change its shape to become a headgear as well, which also works as Power Limiter.

Combo Platter Powers: Juni's lineage is nothing short of complex, and as such, she possesses a plethora of extraordinary abilities. Among them are the ability to run at 70 km/h, the power to transform seamlessly between her human and wolf forms, and the keen sense of smell necessary for tracking prey. Her bloodsucking prowess allows her to extract nutrients from other creatures, while the removal of her necklace can grant her temporary vampiric powers.

Eye Color Change: Her sclera colour changes from white to black, much like her father and grandmother the moment her necklace is removed and her vampire powers are brought to light, ironically.

Deadpan Snarker: Her wit is as dry as her mother's. Her Brutal Honesty is as harsh as her father's.

Nominal Hero: Juni's a strong-willed, passionate, emotional young girl who deeply cares for the lives of her family and friends. However, during later arcs, it should be noted that the du Cronos' blood still flows through her veins. She's hardly interested in ending the feud between The House of Laurel and The du Cronos Dynasty, and is capable of such a No Holds Barred Beatdown to her opponents that it once made her grandparent appear just to voice her pride in her grandchild.

Obfuscating Stupidity: She often plays the fool to catch her opponents off guard or make them think she is weaker than she actually is.

Combat Sadomasochist: She exhibits symptoms of this when unleashing her vampire power, such as when she urges Jonathan to "do something nasty to her" or "pluck out her eyes or tongue."

Power at a Price: Her vampire form gives her complete power, but it also fills her with wrath and drives her to drain people's blood dry until she is slain.

Bad Liar: Quite surprisingly for her, given how her father and grandparent were incredibly good with words. Whenever Juni finds herself in a tight spot due to her impulsive escapades, she goes into panic mode. She'll start tripping over her words, desperately trying to shift the blame away from herself, even if they're as transparent as a glass window.

Will They or Won't They?: With Jonathan. I still haven't decided.

Unusual Ears: Wolf ears, as a reflection of her canine heritage; and much like her old man's and grandma's, they're Arctic Wolf Ears. When she goes berserk as a vampire, she loses them and her ears become human-like but pointier.

Fangs Are Evil: Her fangs are way, way more pointed and pronounced when she turns into a vampire.

Even Bad Girls Love Their Mamas: Downplayed because she's not a bad guy in any way, just a Jerk with a Heart of Gold, but she really loves her mother Megan and his Berserk Button is seeing others upsetting her. This fierce protectiveness also extends to her birth mother Mary, whom she never had the chance to meet. However, Juni is immensely grateful for Mary's selfless sacrifice that gave her a chance at life. She guards her headgear/necklace, Mary's first and last gift to her, with her life.

Tsundere: With Jonathan.

Weak, but Skilled: Downplayed. But if Freki's statement is true, Juni's strength in her entire body is equal to the strength he has in one of his legs, putting her at a level more equal to her grandma Akane in terms of sheer strength. That being said, she is still above the average human being in terms of strength.

JONATHANs TROPES (Jonathan King)

Would Hit a Girl: Jonathan has been taking advice from Medea, who's been schooling him on the fact that justice is blind to gender, and when it comes to someone deserving a good thrashing, he shouldn't think twice about landing the first punch.

Medea: ''Listen up, my boy, there are some battles in life that are worth fighting for, and you better not turn your back and walk away. When the moment comes and you know you have to take action, don't hesitate for a single second.''

Anti-Hero Substitute: At first glance, Jonathan comes off as your classic brooding anti-hero, rocking a biker vibe. Between the all-black outfits, the motorcycle, the gravelly voice, and his rugged beard, it’s easy to peg him as just another edgy loner—kind of like Medea back in the early days of Under Pressure. However, Jonathan is committed to turning his "Nero Angelo" persona into a full-blown The Cape.

90s' Anti-Hero: If only in dress code and overall appearance and aesthetic, and he only uses brutal methods against underworld creatures. Other than that, as mentioned above, Jonathan is pretty much The Cape version of the Nero Angelo.

Death Glare: One of the few signs outside his calm demeanour that tells you that he's pissed. Sometimes his eyes change colour from his natural colour to Medea's yellow to further emphasize this.

Birthmark of Destiny: He has a four-sided diamond-shaped birthmark on the back of his left hand, akin to Nicoletta's on the back of her neck.

Sour Outside, Sad Inside: Jonathan, who’d always been the steady one, finally started to crack under the weight of everything he’d been through. The pain and trauma from the past few years had left him simmering with anger, anxiety, and a storm of emotions he couldn’t keep bottled up anymore. When Nicoletta gently pointed out how much he was starting to resemble Medea, he let out a deep, shaky sigh as tears streamed down his face.

You Are Better than You Think You Are: Jonathan’s history with panic attacks and shaky self-esteem means he’s his own worst critic, no matter how hard he’s pushing himself. It got so bad that Medea had to sit him down and spell it out for him: not only is he absolutely crushing the skills she’s taught him, but he’s even outshining her in some areas. She’s given him major props for keeping solid, useful connections that could pay off big time down the road and even told him—straight up—that, unlike her, he’s got the chops to be a real leader.

Like Mother, Like Son: Although Jonathan is far more virtuous—and markedly more sociable—than his aloof, relentlessly pragmatic maternal surrogate, Medea, he is still prone to losing his temper and descending into sudden, uncontrolled rage. Medea is keenly aware of how dangerous this flaw could become as he grows older, and she therefore makes a constant effort to curb her apprentice’s more violent impulses through rigorous discipline and a strict emphasis on focus.

Master-Apprentice Chain: Jonathan is the newest link in a chain of mentorship that started with Warren Norrington teaching Medea, and now Medea passing that knowledge down to him.

Parental Substitute: Medea, hands down. She chose to foster him, recognizing his abilities and not wanting them to go to waste. Initially, she only intended to teach and guide him as the new Nero Angelo, but as they spent more time together, she grew more attached to him. Then, on his 18th birthday, Medea made it official and legally adopted Jonathan, sealing the deal as mother and son. Their bond? Stronger than steel.

Will They or Won't They?: With Juni. I still haven't decided.

Affirmative Action Legacy: Inverted. In line with the narrative theme of passing the mantle across gender lines—men inheriting from women and vice versa—Jonathan, a young British man, inherits the title of Nero Angelo from Medea, an Egyptian woman.

The Reveal: Jonathan was handpicked by Laurel to be her new champion, and their meeting wasn’t some random coincidence. Laurel made sure he crossed paths with Medea, knowing she’d be the right person to mentor and guide him. Of course, Medea wasn’t exactly thrilled at first. She told her old master, “You’re lucky I was already looking for an apprentice and someone to take over for me. Otherwise, I’d be seriously pissed about getting roped into divine drama I didn’t sign up for.”

Belligerent Sexual Tension: Jonathan is a walking bundle of belligerent sexual tension when it comes to Juni. It's like they're the protagonists of some steamy romance novel, except they're constantly snarking at each other instead of making out. Yoru, bless her heart, is doing her best to play wingman, giving them both advice and gently nudging them in the right direction. Unfortunately, it seems like her efforts are falling on deaf ears. Maybe she should try writing some fanfiction to give them a little push.

Adoption Angst: Not with Medea, for neither of them planned to get as close as they eventually did, and when it happened, Medea was willing to proclaim herself his mother, and Jonathan would call himself ''The Spawn of the Nero Angelo''. However, with Nicoletta, let's say things weren't that good initially, for the former leader of the V7D was still grieving for her stillborn son and wasn't ready to get close to a child she didn't know. She eventually got better and was, in fact, the one who created his Nero Angelo outfit.

Cloudcuckoolander's Minder: Jonathan is probably the most level-headed in the group (...well, most of the time), and he’s usually the one keeping his sister and his totally-not-girlfriend in check when they start acting more childish than usual.

''Well Done, Son!'' Guy: Since he considers Medea to be a surrogate mother to him now that his original mother and father had died, he works hard to earn her respect. When Medea gives Jonathan a compliment, his face brightens up.

Beware the Nice Ones: His opponents learn the hard way what happens when Jonathan is pushed to his Rage Breaking Point, especially after finally being able to unleash his Chthonic Umbrakinesis.

The Unfavorite: Kinda. The Norrington family welcomes him with open arms, and he shares a close bond with his mentor and mother figure, Medea. Nicoletta, on the other hand, sees him more as "family" than "a son," making it clear that Jonathan could never take Gerard's place.

Replacement Goldfish: Both Medea and Nicoletta are fully aware that Jonathan could never truly replace their stillborn son, Gerard. They don't see him as a substitute, and they carry the memory of Gerard with them. That said, over time, Medea comes to genuinely love Jonathan as her own, forming a strong maternal bond with him. Nicoletta, on the other hand, takes longer to reach that same place emotionally (and understandably so). As the one who physically carried Gerard, her grief is deeper and more personal.

Trash Talk: What do you expect from a former biker? The guy lives for trash-talking and tearing his opponents down with that icy, deadpan humor of his. He does it partly for kicks, but mostly to get under their skin and mess with their heads.

All Bikers are Hell's Angels: After losing his parents in a robbery that went horribly wrong, fourteen-year-old Jonathan ran away from home and ended up falling in with an Italian biker gang. He wasn’t exactly a major player—most of the time, he handled low-level tasks like delivering messages and doing courier work. Ironically, his very first encounter with Medea came when the gang gave him a shot at proving himself by attempting a home robbery. Unfortunately for him, he had no idea what he was doing—or whose house he was breaking into. Long story short, Medea took him in, and he ditched the gang… but hey, at least he kept the bike.

Mr. Fanservice: Not as much as Anthony or Freki, but he does have his moments where his rugged masculine bad boy handsomeness is highlighted.

Cloudcuckoolander's Minder: Is this for Juni and sometimes Yoru.

Chain Pain: Jonathan's main weapon is a chain that he either uses as a whip, brass knuckles or a grappling hook.

Happily Adopted: Although Jonathan’s legal adoption didn’t happen until he turned 18, he had already been living with the Argento couple for four years by that point. They took him in when he was just 14, treating him as part of the family from the very beginning. They cared for him, supported him emotionally, and invested in his education—doing everything parents would for their child.

Bullying a Dragon: Tried to rob Medea's house as a kid. Luckily for him, Medea admired the sheer balls it took and decided to take him in.

Adult Adoptee: Medea's gift to him in his 18th birthday was presenting him with legal adoption papers and letting him decide if he wanted to sign or not. He did.

Badass Biker: He was part of a biker gang before he met Medea, and after departing, he kept the cycle. This is a clear contrast to his predecessor Medea, who prefers her classic Dodge Charger.

Extremely Protective Child: Jonathan may not be Medea's biological son, but that's neither here nor there. He's very protective of her and won't hesitate to give anyone a good thrashing if they upset his beloved mother figure.

Shipper on Deck: Nicoletta catches on real quick to the fact that her adopted son has got a big crush on Juni, and she slyly lends him a hand in scoring a date with her at school. And then there's Medea, giving Jonathan a pep talk when he starts freaking out about not being worthy of Juni, especially after witnessing her vampire transformation. It seems everyone wants those two together.

Easily Forgiven: On orders from his biker gang, a 15-year-old Jonathan broke into the Argento household intending to steal anything that looked even remotely valuable. When he was caught in the act, instead of running away like most people would, he made the reckless decision to go after Medea herself. Of course, she had no trouble subduing him—after all, she’s a former Nero Angelo.
But rather than punishing him harshly, Medea was actually somewhat impressed by the sheer nerve and audacity it took for someone so young to even attempt something like that. She let him walk away with most of what he grabbed—except for her and Nicoletta’s wedding rings.

Desperately Looking for a Purpose in Life: Jonathan had lost all his motivation in life ever since he ran off from home after a bunch of criminals broke in and murder his parents. He rarely felt at ease again until Medea stated that Laurel had picked him to be her new champion.

Mentor's New Hope: After her son was stillborn, it seemed like passing the torch to a new generation might not be in the cards for her. But then, along came Jonathan, and things started looking up! Medea saw potential in him and took him under her wing, mentoring him like a coach would train a promising new talent. Jonathan totally lived up to her expectations and didn't let her down. He soaked up her teachings like a sponge, and they bonded so well that Medea decided to officially adopt him, all but confirming that Jonathan would live to become the new Nero Angelo someday.

Genre Refugee: Medea was never the kind of hero she admired as a child—the fearless, grinning adventurers with capes billowing behind them, swords flashing in the sun, always ready with a clever quip before diving into danger. That just wasn’t her. She was too blunt, too hardened, too steeped in the gloominess of the Underworld to ever fit into that mold. But in raising Jonathan, training him, pushing him to be better, she unintentionally molded him into the kind of hero she once looked up to. Not by example—if anything, by being a cautionary tale. She showed him, without meaning to, how not to live. How not to let anger and cynicism consume you. How not to let the past dictate your every move. And in doing so, Jonathan became something she never could be: a true, larger-than-life champion, a costumed defender who stands out in the grim, merciless world they inhabit.

All-Loving Hero: In fact, he’s even more compassionate and heroic than Medea was at her most generous. He deeply dislikes causing needless harm and avoids violence unless absolutely necessary—resorting to combat only when he’s certain that words won’t reach the other person. Unlike Medea, who—now retired—only intervenes when trouble happens to find her, Jonathan actively seeks out people to help.

Younger Than They Look: Jonathan stands almost as tall as Nicoletta, sporting a stubble and a solid, well-built physique thanks to his biker lifestyle. Honestly, he could easily pass for a young adult, even though he’s only sixteen.

Expy: Jonathan can be seen as an expy of certain characters who have taken up the mantle of Robin. Given that Medea and Nicoletta are meant to have a Batman/Superman dynamic when together, the parallels shouldn’t come as a surprise.

Teen Genius: Jonathan dug deep into Medea's old files to pick up some handy skills in first aid, fighting techniques, and detective work. Even though he's not a formal detective, the kid's got some serious brains and can make some deductions that even his mentor didn't see coming. Plus, he's got that street smarts vibe, thanks to two years of living it rough. That's why he can go undercover like a pro and talk himself out of some sticky situations.

Kid Hero: Averted. When Medea saw Jonathan's skills and potential, she knew he had that burning fire inside him to fight the bad guys, but she wasn't about to let him risk his life at such a young age. So she laid down the law and told him, "No missions until you're 20, young man." She wanted him to have some time to grow and learn before diving into the crimefighting stuff. And... It turned out to be a pretty smart move on her part. It gave Jonathan a chance to train, learn the ropes, and become a better version of the Nero Angelo, making Medea feel like a proud momma.

Humble Hero: Compared to Medea’s infamous tenure as the original Nero Angelo—marked by her manic rants, relentless trash-talking, and an almost unsettling delight in dismantling her enemies. Where Medea had once fought with the erratic, almost theatrical energy of someone who saw combat as both an art form and a personal vendetta, Jonathan carried the name of Nero Angelo with a quiet, steadfast resolve. He simply fought because it was necessary, because the symbol he bore had meaning beyond his own personal feelings. Perhaps it was a result of being raised and trained by Medea after the Atlantic War—when she had been tempered by loss, humbled by experience, and forced to reckon with the weight of all she had done. The woman who had once been the most powerful mage alive had learned that power alone wasn’t enough, and that lesson had trickled down to Jonathan in his own way.

Defrosting Ice King: As the series progresses, Jonathan's initial guardedness and aloofness towards Juni and Yoru start to fade away. He begins to open up and warm up to them, slowly but surely. Despite his reserved nature, he begins to appreciate their company and eventually admits that he enjoys being around them.

Break Them by Talking: In contrast to Medea, who would only trashtalk and belittle her opponents once they were defeated, Johnny is a total chatterbox. When he's in the heat of battle, he loves to taunt his opponents to throw them off balance.

Loner-Turned-Friend: Before meeting Juni, he never had friends close to his age, or any friends for that matter.

Stepford Snarker: During one of their first real heart-to-heart talks, Medea calls him out for always joking around and making fun of others, using it as a way to distract himself from the emptiness he feels inside. Jonathan, not denying it, just shrugs and admits, “Yeah, you’re right.”

Legacy Character: Never outright stated, but it's heavily implied and is basically accepted that Jonathan will become the new Nero Angelo, eventually.

Expy: A biker with supernatural powers tied to the Underworld? Sounds familiar...

Named After Somebody Famous: Jonathan Hillstrong King, he shares his middle and last name with Joe Hill's real name.

Improbable Age: He was chosen as the very next Nero Angelo at the age of 15. This is odd considering that Laurel handpicked Medea even before she was created.

Thou Shall Not Kill: Remarkable for being the only member of the three with a very low death toll. He even went to tremendous lengths to keep some of his enemies from dying. Contrast that with Juni, who is powerful and capable of carrying out her own executions.

The Apprentice: He is taken in by Medea, who will prepare him to take the position of the Nero Angelo.

--------------------------SPOILER CHARACTER-----------------------------

YORUs Tropes

Child By Rape: She's the product of Medea being raped by the demoness Mariya.

Bastard Angst: Over time, it becomes clear that Yoru carries a deep emotional wound tied to the circumstances of her birth. She struggles with a persistent sense of self-doubt, largely because she can’t shake the idea that her very existence is a constant reminder of what Mariya did to Medea. There’s a quiet envy in her when she looks at Jonathan—someone who was adopted out of love, not born of trauma. Yoru longs for that kind of bond, that sense of belonging, but can’t help feeling like she’s always on the outside looking inThere are subtle indications that at one point, the weight of it all pushed her to consider ending her own life. But despite how heavy things have been, she and Medea are slowly working through their complex relationship. Medea, for her part, is making a real effort to reassure her daughter—making it clear that she doesn’t harbor resentment or blame. At least, not toward Yoru.

Foil: To Jonathan.

Cloudcuckoolander: This seems to be a theme among Medea's children, biological or not. At first glance, Yoru may not come across as one, as her demeanor is not overly dramatic. At first glance, Yoru might not seem like one of those, because she's not all loud and dramatic. But under the surface, her head's a land of bonkers ideas, mostly down to her being raised by Medea and Nicoletta, with the two ex-V7D having a shared significant role in shaping her sense of practicality and common sense, or rather, the lack thereof.

Half-Human Hybrid: Her mother is a demon and her other mother is an artificial human.

Anti Anti-Christ: Medea's goal. She's determined to mold Yoru into as much of a shining example of goodness she can, while trying to break free from the chains of her dark past with Mariya. Starting by changing her name Yoru. It's no easy task, mind you. It's a bumpy road, and the only solace Medea finds is that Yoru, unlike her demon mother Mariya, shows no interest or pleasure in hurting others. It's a work in progress, but Medea's got her eyes on the prize and this time, it seems she's making progress.

Heroic Bastard: Yoru's other parent is the demoness Mariya who forced herself on Medea. Yeah, it's tragic. That's why Yoru never got the chance to visit to the Underworld while she was a preteen. But so far, she doesn't look to have any ill intentions and Medea's dead set to making her stay that way.

Emotionless Girl: Downplayed. Yoru isn’t some emotionless machine by default. Most of the time, she’s exactly how you’d expect a kid her age to be: playful, mischievous, full of energy, and occasionally just the right amount of annoying, but never in a mean-spirited way. It’s all rooted in that innocent curiosity kids have. But... whenever she’s thrown into a situation involving death—or the kind of violence that could easily lead to it—she goes eerily quiet. Her usual chatter dies down, replaced by a sharp, almost clinical focus on whatever’s unfolding in front of her. She doesn’t flinch, doesn’t panic, doesn’t even look particularly impressed. Death doesn’t scare her, nor does it excite her. If anything, it just intrigues her, like a puzzle she’s trying to work out in her head.

Almighty Janitor: Yoru is a serious powerhouse in the ND10 universe, one of the strongest in the Upper World, right behind Seraphim's mortal form. She's got regenerative abilities that let her heal in minutes, and she can manipulate her body effortlessly, shifting it in ways similar to Ahsmanet. And let's not forget about her demonic voice that can make weak-willed people succumb to her desires. On top of all that, she's got a sixth sense for spotting those elusive cthonic creatures and seems to have a special connection with certain individuals, almost like establishing a psychic link. So why isn't she ruling the world of ND10, you ask?  Well, that's because she's still in the body and mindset of a preteen girl. Plus, Medea, being the responsible guardian she is, goes to great lengths to keep Yoru out of any dangerous situations that could trigger her full demonic powers.

Irony: It's pretty ironic, actually. When Mariya first crossed paths with Medea, she seemed sweet and caring, going out of her way to help and support her. But, newsflash! It was all a big, fat lie. Turns out, Mariya's only agenda was to get Medea to have a child with her, whether she wanted it or not. Yoru, on the other hand, shows genuine affection and care towards Medea. She may the living proof that demons are not always inherently evil, giving her exactly what she thought she was getting from Mariya, minus all the lustful and rapey stuff, of course.

Adorable Abomination: Yoru is, in many ways, pretty much a demon—born from a human womb, yet overwhelmingly demonic in nature. Medea estimates that genetically or metaphysically, she’s about 90% demon and only 10% human—if that. With raven-black hair, porcelain skin, and piercing icy-blue eyes, Yoru appears at first glance to be just a quiet, ethereal little girl. Yoru possesses abilities typically associated with far darker beings—among them, grotesque shapeshifting straight out of body horror fiction, and mind control powerful enough to override the will of people her age (and even some weak-minded adults). Yet, for all her powers, Yoru herself is not actively malevolent. She doesn’t seek to harm, nor does she enjoy chaos. In fact, those who’ve met her often describe her as charming, even sweet.

Teacher: “She’s very bright, but… she made another student cry by blinking at them.”
Nicoletta: “Yoru, sweetie, what did we say about using your abyss-eyes at school?”
Yoru: “Only in emergencies.”
Nicoletta: “Was this an emergency?”
Yoru: “He was hogging the red crayons.”
Nicoletta: “…Okay, we’ll work on that.”

The Baby of The Bunch: Trying to figure out her exact age is tricky. Demons age at a warped speed, and time in Hell is a total mess, to put it mildly. But she looks, acts and overall has the temper of a preteen girl.

Mind Control:  Yoru, as a Torturer demon, has a power that works a lot like mind control. By using her voice, she can make people do what she wants. Given her age and the way she acts like a young preteen, her influence mostly works on other kids. She tends to use it for simple things, like getting someone to "do my homework" or "hand me your drink," rather than anything too sinister´.

Strong Family Resemblance: The only thing that sets Yoru apart from Medea is her pale skin and the markings on her body—otherwise, she’s the spitting image of a younger Medea, just with slightly lighter blue eyes.

The Dreaded: As an underworld demon child, Yoru’s name alone is enough to send shivers down spines and stir whispers wherever she goes. She also wields the ability to control minds—not just of those weaker or unsuspecting, but demons on her level, even those a shade more powerful. And, naturally, any mortal is a puppet waiting for her strings.

The Movie Buff: One of Yoru’s biggest passions is movies. If you catch her on her phone, odds are she’s streaming some film or another. Her room is a shrine to cinema, with posters of classic and modern films plastered on every wall, from timeless masterpieces like No Country for Old Men to underappreciated gems like Upgrade. When her first birthday rolled around in the Norrington household, she knew she wanted a theater-hopping movie marathon. To her, a perfect day meant jumping from one cinema to another, soaking in as many films as possible.

Blue-and-Orange Morality: Yoru, despite being Mariya's daughter and being able to recognize her link with her demon mother, confesses to Medea that she isn’t exactly torn up over her death. She explains that she sees life as a cycle of hunting and being hunted, as natural as sunrise and sunset—it was bound to happen eventually, and she sees no reason to get caught up in emotions over it. Whether her detached reaction comes from the fact that Mariya offered little warmth — or any presence at all — during Yoru’s first sixteen years, or whether it’s simply a reflection of Yoru’s naturally distant way of experiencing emotions, is left open to interpretation.

Nicoletta: “If you could’ve said something to her before she died… would you have?”
Yoru: “No.”
Nicoletta: “Why not?”
Yoru (tilting her head after a pause): “Because nothing I could’ve said would’ve changed what she was. And she wouldn’t have listened anyway.”

My Greatest Second Chance: Medea eventually views raising and molding Yoru into a regular, well-adjusted and good-hearted young girl as her chance to come to terms with her traumatic past with Mariya, as well as a second chance to prove her theory that demons (and by extension, herself) aren't inherently evil.

Character Tics:

Momma's Girl: Even when things start getting better with Medea, Yoru is still way closer to Nicoletta. She calls her "Mama" or "Mum" without a second thought, is surprisingly affectionate with her—like, actual hugs and clinging, which is rare for Yoru—and just seems more at ease around her. And when Nicoletta tries to teach her to value human life more, asking if she even cares about her, Yoru gives just a straight-up, sincere "Yeah, I love you." It’s clear that, out of everyone, Nicoletta’s words actually get through to her more than Medea’s ever do.

Psychoactive Powers: Yoru’s Torturer’s Command ability only works on targets whose power is equal to or lower than hers. Knowing this, Medea and Nicoletta are doing everything they can to teach her the value of mortal life—because if she grows up without that empathy, she could easily become a manipulative, Machiavellian tyrant with the demonic power to make it a reality.

Horrifying The Horror: Not as much as her mom, but, I mean, Yoru's basically a demon kid, so it's expected. But the thing is, she can totally freak out a bunch of those lower-tier demons, and even some of the heavyweight demons are quite hesitant before trying to attack her. She's that scary.

Brilliant, but Lazy: It's not like Yoru's got a built-in laziness chip, but Medea's determined to give her the most ordinary, everyday life a young demon can have. It's her way of making sure Yoru doesn't dive headfirst into Underworld drama or rub shoulders with other demons. And, let's be honest, from a storytelling perspective, it's a way to avoid making her a convenient, plot-saving deus ex machina, especially since Yoru might just be the most powerful of the bunch under Medea's wing.

Shared Family Quirks: Just like her mother and her ''aunt'' Eve, Yoru is completely face blind and can't recognize people's facial features. She recognizes people, believe it or not, by heartbeat patterns. It's not even supernatural—some people naturally have slower or faster resting heart rates, and some have distinct rhythms due to anxiety, health conditions, or personality. She simply instinctively picks up on the difference between a steady, slow pulse and a rapid, erratic one.

Animal Eye SpyMuch like how her mother used butterflies to observe people or deliver messages without being physically present, Yoru has a similar ability—except she uses moths, lunar moths to be precise. However, Medea only taught her how to use them as messengers. She deliberately avoided teaching Yoru how to spy or eavesdrop with them, believing it would be inappropriate for a child to have that kind of invasive power.

Detect Evil: Yoru has this ability to sense when something's not quite right, as she can sense there's something... off with Juni, even if she can't exactly put her finger on it. It's like her intuition is on high alert. And she's also pretty good at detecting other demons lurking around in the city. She's got a devil radar or something similar to Medea's sensor eyes. But the craziest part is that she can even tell even before the rest of the family that Juni has 'something off' within her (referring to Juni's vampiric curse everyone is unaware of at this point), she can't tell what it is but there's something in her she doesn't like.

Extremely Protective Child: No doubt about it, she and Jonathan are siblings in all but blood.

Nature vs Nurture: Yoru's character serves this purpose, and it's the main reason why Medea genuinely tries to overcome her own past trauma with her other parent. It's about giving a second chance to her theory and showing that even a terrifying and powerful level-9 demon can become a caring member of the family instead of a manipulative, deceitful and brutal serial rapist like Mariya. It all comes down to how they're raised, perhaps? Medea first tried to prove this with Mariya... to terrible results. And now we're gonna see if Yoru follows suit...

Meaningful Name:  Medea chose the name Yoru for her daughter for a couple of very intentional reasons. First, a name with Greek origins (like her own) would stand out too much in Italy, and the last thing they needed was unwanted attention. But more importantly, Medea refused to let Mariya poison her feelings or make her resent her own child, even if that child had been born out of an incredibly traumatic experienceRather than letting bitterness take root, Medea made a conscious decision to reclaim something beautiful from the pain. She named her Yoru, the Japanese word for "night"—a symbol of her belief that even in the darkest of times, there's always something left that’s worth loving.

Bad Powers, Good People: Yoru, as you’d expect from someone born while Medea was still Seraphim's vessel, came into the world with some seriously dark powers. But instead of using them for anything outright sinister, she’s found her own way to put them to good use—mostly to help her mother or for more typical preteen mischief.

Cop Killer: Averted. While being held at gunpoint and seeing the cops roughly pin her mother to the ground, Yoru started to lift her hand to aim at one of them, clearly about to use one of her Conqueror Bullets. Luckily, Nicoletta and Jonathan showed up and calmed things down. Feeling safe with Nicoletta’s arm around her, Yoru lowered her hand.

Even Evil Have Loved Ones: Yoru is naturally amoral, not because she's trying to be evil, but more due to her demon nature. She doesn’t naturally feel attachment or concern for humanity. It’s not that she actively wants to hurt people; it’s more that humans barely register to her. But when it comes to the Norrington Household, it’s different. She’s deeply loyal to them and refuses to be separated from her new family.

Trademark Favorite Food: Raspberry Sundae, it's the dessert she tends to ask for when offered.

Story-Breaker Power: Yoru, being a demon infused with the Nero Angelo's essence, is one of the most powerful beings in the future of ND10, especially considering that unlike Seraphim, due to being half-human, her abilities are not bound to the Underworld. In theory, her voice alone has the potential to bend any situation to her will, making conflicts vanish in an instant. But hey, we don't have to worry about her becoming a deus-ex-machina just yet. Firstly, she's still a kid and hasn't fully tapped into her powers or even figured them out completely. And secondly, Medea is dead set on giving her a peaceful life, far away from any kind of trouble. That means no joining Jonathan and Juni on their vigilante escapades or training.

Never My Fault: When Jonathan’s old biker gang comes after her and Nicoletta, pissed off that he left and looking for payback, she absolutely annihilates them. No hesitation, no mercy—just a complete bloodbath. And it’s not just self-defense, either. At one point, she straight-up executes one of them, even after he was already down for the count. She’d shot his leg out with her finger gun, and the guy was clearly trying to surrender. But she took him out anyway. And yet, when it’s all said and done, when she’s standing there covered in blood and facing Medea, Jonathan, and Nicoletta, she has the audacity to act like it was all an accident. It’s almost laughable—except it’s also kind of terrifying. But the thing is, she’s not doing it out of malice. She’s young, and this is just her very immature way of avoiding consequences, trying to dodge the heat for something she knows was wrong. Hopefully...

Non-Standard Character Design: In the series, most of the human-like characters have detailed eyes with irises and pupils. However, Yoru's eyes only have irises without any pupils, which gives her a unique look and creates the illusion that she might be visually impaired. It's a small but significant clue that she's not entirely human.

Ambiguous Innocence: Yoru does not fully grasp morality or the range of emotions humans classify as negative. When Medea and Nicoletta went to check the place in which she slaughtered a biker gang in defense of Nicoletta, the latter used Whisper's Pain Echo Tracing feature to measure Yoru’s hostility, aggression, and malice at the time. The result left them both stunned; Yoru exhibited none. She had acted without ill intent, seemingly incapable of malice altogether, reinforcing the notion that demons neither feel nor truly comprehend such emotions.

Coordinated Clothes: After Yoru finally accepted Jonathan as her brother, she took it upon herself to make something that symbolized their connection. Inspired by Medea's star-shaped belly piercing; for herself, she designed a sleek, fashionable choker with a small star charm hanging from the center, giving it a subtle but personal touch. For Jonathan, she made a wristband—simple but cool—with the same star design. These accessories were a quiet but powerful symbol of their shared legacy as the children of the Nero Angelo
