Everyone knows of Icarus' fall. How he did not heed his father's warning, soaring so high he touched the sun. How he fell, the wax of his wings burning his back as he spiraled towards the ocean. He lost the freedom he had only just won in the pursuit of touching the sky. The boy who never was free chased the freedom of the sky, and he paid so dearly.

But no one knows of the rest of his tale.

No one knows how he was saved by a pitying sea god. How the wax from his wings left no more than scars when it cooled in the ocean spray. How he was deposited on an island filled with a species humans only dreamed of. How they nursed the strange, burned boy to health, never once questioning the sea's decision. He was left to die by his father, but he did not die.

Hello, y'all! Tis' I, wanting yet another RP I don't have so much as an ounce of time for. If it wasn't obvious from the snippet above, I want an RP doing with the Icarus. Specifically with him in the twist of the idea that he did not die when his wings melted. Now, there are several possibilities for what could happen here. All of which I will explain if there is any interest here. I will heed all though, romance is almost guaranteed.

Whichever idea most appeals to whoever wants to join, there are going to be some set constants. Such as the race that inhabits the island he is brought to, and the fact that this is going to be set in a time period like ancient Greece. I will be using a basic template for characters when we get there, but I'm not picky on who I play.

The race that lives on the island is a winged species. They are creations of Apollo, humans given wings, a race he nicknamed 'the Sceres (seer-s)'. The Sceres are humanlike in appearance, all sharing some variation of sun-kissed skin and gold eyes along with naturally a toned physique and each a pair of large bird wings. Their wings are always unique in pattern and color, with no limitation on design besides the fact that they are feathered and copy birds' wings in shape.

Rules:

  • Andrews rules as always
  • Please have detailed responses. At least three to four sentences if longer.
  • I will match post lengths. If you want effort from me, I want to know that you're just as invested.
  • Swearing is all cool here, but personal preference if you prefer not to use it
  • Romance is going to be involved, but I can work with how saucy it gets. If you'd prefer to skim or leave out things like that, all good, if you'd rather go through them, works too.
  • That being said, please be mature and of an acceptable age for above.
  • Lgbtq+ are accepted, loved, and welcomed here with open arms
  • Don't be a dick. Simple as that. While our characters may occasionally fight in the rp, I will not hesitate to boot someone if you're being racist or homophobic while in the rp or just in regular chatting.
  • Post at least once a week, if you're going to be gone for longer just let me go, I can work with most schedules.
  • Same if you want to drop this rp. Just let me know, I won't be mad
  • I'll be asking for an rp sample if we haven't rped together before.
  • With that, do ask before joining, and don't get mad if I don't let you join. I promise it's not personal in the least
  • This list is subject to change and updating at any time

I think that's everything I have to add in this first post, and more will come if someone likes this idea. I am more than willing to do this idea with others too if there is several people interested.

@Meow

I don’t know much about the time period/culture/mythology, but I’m very interested! (I can do some researching if need be.)

@gracehustle

(Oooo a person! Welcome! This is really just based on greek mythology, in particular, the tale of Icarus, if you are interested in reading up on it! I don't think I've rped with you before, if you're interested would you mind showing a sample of your rp style?)

@Meow

Here’s a writing sample. The lengths of my responses on average will be about this long. Let me know if you’d like a different one.
“Thank you.”
She was used to Cassius showing up at the office, but never prepared for why. She was never one for predicting someone’s action.
“I-I just need to make sure there’s no mistakes. And, I have a lot of paperwork that still needs to be filed …”
She set her tea back down and stood. She didn’t her desk to look so messy when the other staff got here, and she especially couldn’t let herself realize how many papers there were. Rather, that was her excuse she told herself. Really, her hands needed to be kept busy before she embarrassed herself.
“Is there, …there something you need from me?” She asked, glancing up.

@gracehustle

Alrighty! Here are the possibilities, keep in mind they're very rough:

  • Icarus doesn't remember much more than falling when he wakes up on the island, and he really doesn't know what to think. He feels out of place on the island and so, but being the son of an inventor, he starts to design ways to leave the island. Mostly to try to find his father. While there, he catches feelings for one of the Sceres and it ends up becoming a whole ordeal
  • two, same as the first in the sense that he doesn't remember being brought to the island, but this time, he feels at home and essentially the island becomes his home. That is until humans do find out about it, something that has never happened before that, and he has to decide whether to stay with the new family and defend the island from them or to abandon them for freedom.
  • three, as Icarus was brought to the island by a pitying god to save him from death, the fates get all upset over him cheating death in a sense. but to the words of the gods, this is nothing more than a myth. Being interested in the drama, Apollo decides to pay a visit to the island and essentially falls in love with the young man he almost killed. This causes more than a fair share of problems in the world of the greek gods.

alrighty, so tell me what you think of any/all of these ideas and which you would prefer to go for. (All will most likely incorporate a relationship, straight or gay) I am completely fine on playing any character, I would prefer Apollo or a Scere, but I'm totally open to working with you if you want me to play icarus instead.

@Meow

I’m liking all of the ideas. Though, I think I like the first the most. Since I don’t know much about the Scere, I can just play at Icarus as well.

@Meow

Yes please! And I don’t have any preferences for relationship pairings, whatever you’d like, I’m down for.

@gracehustle

Alrighty! Here's the template!

@Meow

Thank you. It’s quarter to midnight now, so I should head off. I’ll post the template in the morning.

@Meow

(Here he is! I had to do a bit of inferring and freestyle to fill in the gaps, so please let me know if I should make changes or fix anything.)
Name: Icarus
Age: 18
Gender: Male | He/Him
Sexuality: Bisexual
Appearance: Icarus has a strong built frame, but has slim, spindly features. His skin is close to a rose beige tone, and always has a natural pink tint like he had been in the cold for hours. He’s closer to the tall side, but he also wears some kind of slightly platformed shoe. Maybe he’s not as tall as he thinks. His hair is a pale brown, appearing almost blonde in the sun. It’s rather fluffy and unkempt, with random strands of hair poking up. His eyes are an Aegean blue, close to the colour of the sea. His hands are calloused, especially around his thumbs, from the constant drawing, writing, and whittling of inventing.
Personality: Overly ambitious. He usually creates grand scale ideas, but doesn’t think about it all the way through, and is sent back to the drawing board. Though, this also applies beyond his inventing, and he’ll make decisions before really comprehending what he did. He’s quick witted, sharp as his pencils. Always willing to take risks, and always quite cheery. No concept of a schedule, when he wants, he does. Meaning he can invent all day and night, take a nap before the break of dawn, continue, have breakfast in the evening, and then sleep for 14 hours.
Likes/Dislikes: Likes nighttime, the curved structure of a fish’s bones, and the colour of sunlight filtered through cloth. Dislikes drinks that will stain when spilled, beetles, and schedules.
Backstory: Grew up constantly watching his father create things, falling in love with the prospect of taking one thing and making it into another. Made up small competitions between himself and his brother, whether it was mutually agreed upon or not. He stole supplies from his father, and often tried to copy the ways and things his father did. Through this way, his inventions improved, and his father was slowly teaching him a little more. When they got locked away, he didn’t think of it too much, and continued his usual antics. He watched his father work his way to making the pairs of wings one day. Overcome with the sudden realization, he sought over the feeling of freedom, until the worst of his tale, reaching for Apollo and melting the wax of his wings.
Other: He wonders why he’s told his eyes are like the sea, when he looks to the sky the most.

@gracehustle

(He looks awesome! Maybe aging him up a few years would be good, but he looks amazing!)
Name: Tellis
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Pansexual
Appearance: Tellis has the same sun- tanned skin as any Scere as well as eyes that are the color of honey. Overall, he's built fairly well, with a strong and muscular but naturally a more lean build. His hair is dark brown, and he wears the thick, wavy mess long enough to fall into his eyes. He's also fairly tall, standing about 5'11", which also makes his wings have an impressive wingspan. The wings in question are fluffy and well taken care of. They are various shades of purple and sea blue mostly, with hints of white tied in.
Personality: Calm and carefree, he's a happy and curious Scere, like most. Tellis tends not to take life seriously, and he lives every day like it's his last. At the same time, he wouldn't hesitate to give up everything for his people. Trust is everything to him, and all his friendships are based on it. While it's hard to gain his trust, it's even harder to lose it, and losing it will essentially make him shut anyone out. He's caring as well, and sometimes, paired with his curiousness, this can lead to…interesting situations.
Likes/Dislikes: He likes to fly and swim in the ocean around the island…even if his wings prevent him from doing so very well. He also likes the sound of wind rustling through the trees and the feel of the sun against his skin. He dislikes little bugs, planning things out, and the feel of fish scales.
Backstory: Tellis has lived his whole life on the island of the Scere. From a young age, it was clear he was going to become a guardsman of the island. He grew up in the path of this career, learning how to hone his flying skills for the say that something impossibly found their island. One day as he went on a frankly boring patrol, he found something, or rather someone washed up onshore. Being the curious being he is, he went to investigate and soon ended up bringing the burned boy to a healer on the island. He's an only child, and while his mother passed away, his father still lives on the island.
Other: He has actually met Apollo, when the god made a trip to the island when he was young.

@Meow

(I love Tellis! And I’m ready to start at any time, unless there’s something else you’d like to discuss first. I should be somewhat active for the next several hours and I’m on winter break now, I’ll just be working on a painting.)

@gracehustle

Tellis was ready to turn back as he flew along the sandy edge of the island, barely scanning the beach as he focused on the wind under his wings. He breathed in the salty air with a smile, not even focused on his assignment at the moment. It felt too good to be flying and even better in the sunlight beating down. Apollo had to be in a good mood today.

Turning his thoughts back to patrolling the border of the island, he glanced down at the beach. Rock. Rock. Sand, more rocks. It all blended together. Including the lump, he almost skimmed over. He wasn't sure why it caught his attention, but the feeling in his gut told him to see what it was, and so he flew downwards, eyes widening as he realized the lump was not a rock. He wasn't sure what it was. It didn't have wings, and it definitely didn't have the same aura as a god. But it certainly seemed injured, and thoroughly unresponsive.

He frowned at the sight, landing softly on the warm sand several feet away so he could study the thing he now identified as some living creature.

@Meow

Icarus stood in the beauty of his dream.
He was on a beach, the sun held a pleasant warmth, the water a pleasant blue. His hands felt full. They held a large handful of feathers in all sorts of colours; shades of purples and golds, blues and whites. There were shells across the beach, each with a unique curvature and design. The waves lapped by his feet, stopping after they met his ankles.
Slowly the heat on his back was increasing, as the sun was setting. Icarus was still enjoying the beach though. A person approached with a candle in hand, the waxing dripping into the sand. Icarus lost his beach, ripples of slashing heat on his back, the feathers soaked with the tide.
He still couldn’t open his eyes, despite leaving his dream-like state. Beneath his fingers, he could barely feel grains of sand. His mind could only focus on the burning of his skin, of what he could only hope was sunlight.

@gracehustle

There were several options Tellis clearly had as he studied the being. Upon closer inspection, he knew they were injured, and he couldn't just leave them here. He had to decide whether to bring it back to a healer or try to help them himself, and he knew that wouldn't end well. Caring or not, he had no skill with healing. There wasn't a chance he was leaving the being here though, and the idea of bringing them to a healer much outweighed the risk of them discovering the Scere.

With his decision to help set in stone, he crept towards the being. The sand made no noise under his feet as he did so, and he kept his wings tucked against his back, mostly to keep from frightening the being. Tellis crouched next to them, hesitantly reaching out towards what looked like feathers melted to the being with wax and a wooden frame he assumed the feathers were supposed to attach to. Maybe in some type of copy of his own wings.

This attempt clearly had failed though, and he was sure the movement had to hurt as he shifted the being out of the contraption, not daring to do more. He frowned with clear concern as he did so, tossing the wooden frame away and picking off as many of the feathers as he could. There wasn't anything more that he could do on his own. If the being was awake, he was sure there would've been more fight as Tellis scooped them into his arms, wincing as the still-warm wax stuck to his own arms.

"Don't worry, you're safe now," He murmured to the being before standing, cradling the burned creature to his chest before taking flight.

@Meow

Something was messing around. Icarus could barely feel it, the numbness of the heat stopping most feeling. Icarus could sense himself being picked up, and he begged for his eyes to open. He was still working in overdrive though, and his eyes barely opened a sliver. He could tell there was bright sun though, with even his eyes closed.
Something else touched the heat of his injuries, and his brows furrowed in pain. He flinched slightly, every time the sensation shifted.
He felt himself drifting back towards a dream-like state- a pounding starting in his head. This time, he was back flying. The sun was the same as before, but there was only sea and no beach. Or perhaps, he thought, he hadn’t quite passed out again. The stinging of his injuries still poking and prodding his conscious.
Was he being saved? Saved from what though? And who? Icarus wished to say something, but his throat was dried and his tongue would not move.

@gracehustle

Telis flew quickly, hoping the movement of flying wasn't injuring things further. Even if it was, he didn't know if it was worth flying slower. If the being was hurt badly, it seemed to make more sense to get him to the healers quickly. And so that's what he decided to do.

The island was fairly large, and there were clear distinctions of different areas of it. There was only one main city though, built into the side of the only mountain on the island. It sprawled out below as well, with homes being built into the side, shops taking up space below on the ground, and healers residing at that base of the mountain. So that's where he went. Slowly flying over the city, he made the trip smoothly, landing outside of one of the buildings gently.

It was calm inside, and entering the building seemed to be the only excitement of the day for the workers. Instantly, he was directed to one of the treatment rooms, not once letting go of the creature until instructed by a healer to set him down on the large bed. Without any more words, he was shooed out, sent to wait outside the door as the healer dealt with the injuries.

@Meow

Icarus soon found a new pairing of sensations. The numbness of the heat was melting down, purely to just pain. He was a bit surer of him being saved, perhaps brought in for treatment. He saved his curiosity, hyper-focused on removing the pain of the injuries.
He could only think he’d done something grand, and something stupid, that landed him here.
More sounds were echoing in his ears, but the pounding in his head persisted, and his eyes still refused to open. The rocking of the sea and wind set in, as Icarus lay still and half awake. His body seeming to sway with an imagined breeze, and the tips of his fingers brushing the tides. He’d just ask questions later, and returned to the sunshine that peeked through to his eyes.

@gracehustle

The healer didn't do much more than deal with the burns, treating the burns that weren't covered with wax, and gently removing the wax that was removable. By the time they were done, the being's back was free of wax, and they had treated the area that needed to be treated.

Only then was Telis allowed to enter the room again. And that he did. He stepped inside with curiosity, looking at the being that was currently laid on the bed. They looked much better now that the burns were covered, and he wondered if they would wake up. If it came to it, he wanted to make sure the being woke up, but there was only so much time left in the day, and he would most likely have to tell others about what he had found.

@Meow

Icarus opened his eyes finally. They were dry and it stung, so he blinked in attempt to clear them up. The rest of his body merely felt stiff now, and he wasn’t sure if this was that much better.
He tried looking up, the muscles of his back contracting, and he winced. He tried a second time, propping himself against his elbow. He quickly spotted another figure in the room, and his jaw went slack. The periodic stinging told him he wasn’t still dreaming, but everything else within him said otherwise.
Wings. Their feathers the same shades as those he’d seen in handfuls in his dream. Any birds wings he’d seen, or even the smoothest curve of a fish’s rib bone, could contest the beauty of the wings. Icarus soaked in the sight, before catching the eye of the being.
A god? A messenger of the gods? He could only stare, stuck awkwardly supporting himself on his elbow.
