"I am charged with guarding the royal body." Her unnatural eyes glitter with excitement you didn't expect. Shouldn't she be angry? "Did you really think you could kill the first prince?"

You can't stand her mocking tone; you bear your teeth. "He's a danger to the natural order. Are you really so easy that you'd look past that? I've heard he's a bit of a good fuck—" You're slammed against the wall, and your head rattles from the impact. Shit. You weren't prepared at all for this confrontation. Since when did he have a personal guard? But there she is, grinning and holding you hostage against the cold stone. Everything you own has been stripped away piece by piece without your knowledge. The guard cocks her head, and her gaze jumps all around your face. "Just kill me and get it over with."

She grins. It's slow, and self-satisfied, and you know you're fucked. "No. I have a better idea."

When she was a young girl, Aideen had two rules to follow: survive at all costs, and find the Phachao Keoa—the Old Gods. Her mother would drill the importance of that last one into her mind night after night, telling stories of those Gods while pointing to the stars, as if they resided up there. Aideen held her mother's demands close to her heart long after her family died off, one by one. Even as she lost faith in her ability to follow the second half of her rules, she repeated the stories and the mantra to herself during her trek across the land. She would never forget.

Now, years later, she lives safe behind the valley walls housing her new home. Draíochta Síoraí was shelter to people like her—witches—with royalty resembling more godlike than she had ever anticipated. Were these the Old Gods? No, they weren't nearly old enough. Not even the powerful High Witches knew what she was talking about when she asked them about it. Aideen had thought so, but being wrong still stung like rejection.

Their messengers reek of bloody purity and flavorless spice, her mother had said. What did that even mean? No one fit that description: until the night she intercepts an assassin aimed for her prince.

Hello! Long description! I am back from the dead because why not, though I do not guarantee consistency because that is never a guarantee with me. Basically this story is a means to flesh out my one character, Aideen, with a plotline I made up on the fly. You are a "hero" given a task by the Old Gods to cut down "dangers to the natural order," which is essentially just god-speak for "these fuckers are challenging my power and I'm feeling insecure." Aideen was tasked by her now-dead mother to find the Old Gods for no given reason, and meets you! When you try to kill the prince she is both involved with and in charge of protecting! Lovely meet-cute, I know.

The title will make sense along the way, I promise, I have a vague idea of what they find when they get there, but I'm pretty much going to make it all up as I go. A bit of background is necessary for this universe to make sense.

  • Draíochta Síoraí – A 2,000 year-old, old Gaelic kingdom/mini-country that resides in a hidden corner of northern Ireland and is very much removed from the rest of the world, with their own unique accent, way of life, and society. Draíochta Síoraí, meaning “Eternal Magic,” was originally a scattered and amateur safe house for witches hundreds of years before, founded and led by a man named Coileán Mac Arthfael, which bloomed into a working stronghold for witches to be safely hidden away.
  • Witches – supernatural beings that are not human but look human. The more powerful they are, either by practice or by nature, the more likely they are to have mutations due to an overflow of magic within their bodies. They are immortal, but more powerful ones are more likely to not die off from "natural" causes and therefore have longer lifespans. Witches have affinities and not all are the same; families have a higher likelihood of passing along affinities but this is not a guarantee. When they cast magic, they put off manifestations that are centered around their hands.

    • Mac Arthfael – this family is a special case as they are blessed by supernatural forces which they have a connection with. I won't go into detail because it's not essential, but their affinity is reality, and they have all sorts of abilities to mess around with reality and travel between worlds/universes/realities. They do not put off a manifestation when casting because they are technically always casting due to hyperactivity of magic
    • High Witches – uber-powerful witches revered as gods
  • Old Gods – the creators of the witches. Ancient-ancient beings of old that looked over everything they created. There is no solid knowledge on who these people were, but the legend goes as such: The Old Gods were dying. A sickness spread through their ranks, tearing through their health and power, and stripping them of their eternal youth. The youngest of them panicked and feared for their elders, but also the future of their people. Without the guidance and constant eye of the Gods looking over them, they were sure to crumble. And what of the future of their plans for the world? Would everything just halt, an eternal standstill of the past? Or would it all deteriorate, just as the Gods themselves? They deliberated amongst themselves on what they should do, but settled upon a solution: leave one last gift for the world. A final out pour of their lingering powers. Just as they died, the first witches were born, and a new dynasty of deities would reign.
    Obviously, some are still alive if heroes are being sent out to dispatch the more powerful witches. . . almost as if there are lingering Gods that didn't approve of the decision, and seek out revenge against the replacements their kin created?

This is long, I know, bear with me—worldbuilding is my favorite pastime. To break it all down into simple terms: Your character is a classic Chosen One hero that meets Aideen, a blockade in your quest to kill off High Witches, starting with the royal Mac Arthfael family. She's crafty and captures you, then blackmails you into a deal: you help her find the Old Gods, and she won't toss you into the mouth of one of the king's many beasts at his disposal. You agree, thinking that it'll be easy enough to slip away and get what you want while also giving her the illusion that you are cooperating.

Except one thing: you don't really know where the Old Gods are.

Rules are simple

  1. I reserve the right to deny you for whatever reason. Please don't make it grammar, spelling, or poor responses that leave nothing to work from. I will ask for a writing sample, preferably a roleplay response
  2. This is not a romance, do not try to make it one, I do not promote adultery
  3. That also means that this will not have smut
  4. Honestly probably gonna be a relatively chill rp with some instances of gore from battles, idk. Keep expectations with me at around 'mildly concerning' so that means I do not want minors rping with me. At all. Do not lie to me about your age. I am nearly 20 and I am uncomfortable with the idea of rping with a minor
  5. I will not respond consistently. I will admit that right now. If you annoy me I will jump ship
  6. Don't be an ass :)
  7. I also reserve the right to add more rules/requests

@ElderGod-Carrots

Do I have any self-control over how many RP's I can handle at one given time? Definitely not, but enemies to reluctant friends to buddies? I may have to bite on this one…

@ElderGod-Carrots

Of course! Here you go :)

There’s never only one word to describe the feeling that a person has when they wake up on their birthday. An ordinary person may feel excitement, joy. An overwhelming sense of love from the people they celebrate with. Those who lay outside this norm, could express feelings of dread, sorrow and simply nothing at all. Most people would presume a prince would fall comfortably into the category that was the ordinary, however extraordinary their life may be, but for one prince, he fell into the other.

Caspian Rynian. The only living heir to the throne of Eirus and the only prince on the continent to despise his birthday more than he hated waking up at dawn, or the silence that followed after an exceptionally bad joke. Dread had consumed him all day, hiding in his room from the rest of the palace, most importantly his father, knowing that the socialising he was to do at his birthday party tonight would make up for it. It was more of a ball than a party, Cas knew. Nothing was ever small in Eirus, especially when it came to celebrating him.

Being the only living heir meant growing up the day his brothers passed away. There was no time for fun, barely any time for peace and quiet and definitely no time for a good, long nap. His dreams of a quiet life out of the royal eye died when his brothers did, leaving him with no one to fill the space left in his heart, and only more royal duties he never thought he would have to partake in.

But the kingdom needed a crown prince and one that was ready for when his father passed or stepped down from the throne. The time was coming. It would be a matter of months before his father stepped out of the limelight and let Cas rule the kingdom. His coronation would be days after his father abdicated, and the preparations were already in place.

It was one of the significant things preventing him from enjoying the masked ball that was being held in honour of his twenty-second birthday.

Cas wasn’t sure what to expect when he entered the party, but from what he could tell, it would be a lot of people.

His stomach turned. Parties weren’t his forte, but he had no choice considering he was the guest of honour and everyone was here for him. At least there would be cake, and booze. Getting drunk would probably not be good for his reputation but a few drinks wouldn’t hurt—a few strong drinks at that.

Standing in front of his mirror, the delicate carving of the wood framing his body in the elegant light of the candles, Cas looked at himself and tried not to grimace at the image that he looked upon. He was dressed in a suit of navy blue satin, the colour shimming in the light and creating an image of starlight. The shimmer of the gold sash that adorned his body glistened, sparkling with specks of silver along the trim that had been woven in, patterns of stars and constellations to match. His sleeves were cuffed, showing the silver cufflinks he wore. He wore simple boots and black trousers, the boots of leather and the trousers of soft cotton. The belt around his waist was decorated with small gems to hide the thread, adding to the look of starlight Cas seemed to be portraying. Around his neck lay a simple, silver necklace with the family crest, a gift from his late mother and one he never took off. The crown atop his head was far too heavy and far too extravagant for his liking. Crystals and jewels that shone marvellously in the candlelight, reflecting into the mirror and bounding away in every direction, lighting up the gold and navy of the structure of the crown.

Piercing green eyes stared back at him, glancing between the crown, his outfit and his face, dark hair in perfect place and not a blemish apart from the scar above his left brow to be seen. All that was missing was a smile. Cas wouldn’t smile until he had to, and that was right outside the doors to the party.

okay, so i know i don't have a super solid plot set up, but i kinda wanted to leave it up for interpretation as to why the gods send out Chosen Ones, or even if it was a specific god that sent them out. I also don't have specific parameters for your character, so you're free to make stuff up that add to the story if you want! if i have any problems with that, i'll be sure to let you know, but i have such a loose plotline that i doubt i'll have issues.

here's a template you can use, and i'll get my girl up at some point:

Name:

Race: [human/witch/other, etcetera]
Looks:
Tattoos: [optional]
Piercings/Jewelry: [optional]

@ElderGod-Carrots

Name: Eurion Beddoe
Gender: Male, he/him, gay
Age: 125
Race: Fae
Looks: Eurion stands at 6'5. He is fairly lean however strong and muscled in all the right places. His skin is more on the tanned side but paler during the winter seasons. His hair is a dark brown, shorter on the sides and longer on the stop - soft and slightly wavy. He has dark eyes to accompany, practically black depending on the lightning, and he has pointed ears. He has quite a soft jawline despite his outwardly more intimidating appearance. His nose and cheeks are freckled. He makes sure that he is clean-shaven whenever he can as the sensation of facial hair annoys him. He has a naturally neutral to more angry facial expression, probably because his mouth is usually slightly downturned into a scowl or a frown.
Tattoos: His right bicep has a cat skull with a snake through the mouth accompanied by some florals to tie the piece together. The florals extend along his shoulder turning into vines that wrap around his collarbone before starting to extend down his back where the piece turns into constellations and a faceless God.
Piercings/Jewelry: He wears a necklace with a blue gemstone
Scars/Distinguishing Marks: He has a large scar across his back that cuts right through the centre of his tattoo, and one across his left cheek.
Preferred style of clothing: When working, he wears tighter-fitting clothing in order to prevent anything from snagging while slinking around places. Usually brown or leather (I've attached a photo for reference because I don't really know how to describe his working outfit). He has an array of daggers, knives, and other weapons tucked into every place possible. But when he's off the job it's loose-fitting button-ups in white or dark blue.
https://www.pinterest.fr/pin/26177241577276212/
Personality: Hardworking, dedicated, and determined. He's passionate about the things he likes and doesn't tolerate bullshit. Has a bit of a short fuse but usually, that's not an issue considering he doesn't have to talk to people, just kill them. He's softer on the inside than he appears.
Background: His parents named him Eurion, meaning 'gold' or 'golden one' as they believe that he would grow up to do great things (little did they know, they weren't entirely wrong) and it's where he gets his name from The Golden Hunter. Grew up fighting and training from a young age. Originally it was because he just wanted to defend his family, though soon it was because he was Chosen, then it became to fulfil the duty of the Old Gods. His mother and father were unfortunate victims of a disease that passed through the Fae people, leaving just him when it came to family. With no one to care about him or anyone to love, he set off and dedicated his life to the cause that he was granted.
Magic: Shadow manipulation. He is able to control them and create weapons, objects, and 'shadow men'. He can also use them to conceal himself, which is perfect for what he does.

I hope he's okay! Lemme know if you want me to change anything

@ElderGod-kirky group

Name:
Aideen an Ridire

Gender:
Female, she/her, bisexual

Age:
25

Race:
Witch

Looks:
She's not a woman that you'd ignore on the street. 5'9, lightly muscled, with rich brown skin indicative of her Southeast Asian and Hispanic heritage. From there, it becomes quite clear that she's not human. Her monolid eyes are white, the iris only visible from a black ring around the edge that bleeds into the center, and her pupils are smaller than normal, nearly a pinprick in enough lighting. She has long, naturally straight hair that falls to her waist and is a technicolor blend of black, white, and blue all throughout. From there, her features are rather distinct, but delicate, with long and thin fingers, a cut jawline, and a sharp nose. She very much looks like she's built for speed and cunning, rather than brute force, but has the muscle to back up her status as a royal bodyguard.

Tattoos:
"Fuck the prince" written in a handwriting that's not hers along her inner forearm. Down her back is what looks to be a family tree made of varying types of feathers, bones, and blades, and on her thigh is a portrait of a many-headed and many-winged dragon. All are done in grayscale, except the dragon has hints of unnatural gold that doesn't seem to be a normal ink color.

Piercings/Jewelry:
She wears thick beaded necklaces and bracelets, with a line of earrings on each ear and a simple stud nose piercing.

Scars/Distinguishing Marks:
She has splotchy birthmarks on her throat and stomach that are lighter than the rest of her skin. Tiny scars are riddled throughout her body, with a particularly gnarly one on the side of her throat that goes up her ear, more wide than a typical slash wound would cause.

Preferred style of clothing:
Within the palace, she wears her royal armor, which is a mixture of metal and tough leather fashioned into intimidating spikes around the shoulders and helmet, and a cape for official settings that is easily undone. The ensemble has golden accents, with a dark gray metal and white leather (the cape is the same color as the metal, but more golden designs). (i'm thinking something like this design-wise.
Otherwise, she likes to wear shredded shirts and ripped trousers, patterned cloaks/shawls, and clothing made from hacked up fishing net.

Personality:
True to her magic, as you'll see, she's a little shifty wench. She takes no shit and doesn’t initially) fold under the prince's demands just because he’s royalty and pretty. Will terrorize someone with no hesitation, finds glee in facing a challenge, and will square up with anyone claiming to be bigger and better than her. If she's facing a losing battle, she will fight dirty and cheat her way to victory, because life isn't fair and it's fun to break the rules. Opportunistic, obviously, and has a habit of cracking jokes when things are supposed to be serious.

Background:
Aideen's family of witches got caught up in a sort of witch trial back in her hometown, and had to flee. They knew about this supposed shelter for witches up in Ireland, so they packed as many bags as they dared and left to find said shelter. Unfortunately, the trip was hard on them, and with several young children to look after, Aideen's family fell to illness, highwaymen, thirst/hunger, and exhaustion. She made it to the hidden entrance of Draíochta Síoraí all alone: dirty, hungry, thirsty, and surviving by the skin of her teeth from sheer will alone. All she had to her name was a sword left by her parents. From there, she grew up stealing and was adopted by a group of knights who were amused by her antics and saw potential in the little hellion, and thus trained to be one herself. That is how she got her surname, an Ridire—it means "the Knight". She only became appointed a royal bodyguard after she accidentally intercepted an attempted assassination and berated the prince for being stupid.

Magic:
Magpie shifter! Pretty self-explanatory, she shape-shifts into a magpie and has some of their mannerisms which makes her all the more infuriating.

Weapon:
She carries with her a Laos daab. It is perfectly balanced, with the significant curved spine attributed to swords from Laos and a spear-like tip and has detailed inscriptions in the blade with ornate designs within the hilt. There’s a small guard not unlike a katana’s, and the hilt is made from ivory. The scabbard is made from two strips of bamboo secured by brass bands and braided rattan, rounded off at the end, and has a rope that is both decorative and functions as a belt loop she configured to let it sit at her hip rather than over her shoulder.

Other: Speaks English, Gaelic, and Lao

You're really going to hate me with these two, i'm sorry in advance

Name:
Caoimhe Mac Arthfael (pronounced Kee-vuh, like Kiva)

Gender:
Male, he/him, straight

Age:
82

Race:
High Witch

Looks:
6’1, trimmed and sleek like a proper prince. Almost fae-like with his delicate features, but that gets ruined by the sharpness of his cheekbones and hooded eyes, the clear wickedness carved into his very being. He likes to say that he ages like fine wine, only getting more delectable and desirable the older he gets. Dark red hair like deep sangria that spills down to his waist in loose curls, the sides shaved. Tanned skin. Autumn prince through-and-through. His eyes are tawney at a distance, but up close you can see the family galaxy swirling within their depts, discernible constellations that move around but keep their shape.
Raised golden freckles pepper his entire body and give off a tiny glow. Thick tusks replace his bottom canines and are large enough to do damage when needed but fit his mouth/teeth just right to look normal when his mouth is closed. He has carved horns that add another 13 inches to his height; they twist upwards a little, with the offshoots curving back and twining with each other. His vertebrae have symbols that protrude from the bone (as bone) and can be seen/felt beneath the skin.

Tattoos:
He has his vertebrae symbols tattooed black.

Piercings/Jewelry:
Just about the amount of rings/jewelry you'd expect a prince to have. Basic earrings. No other piercings.

Scars/Distinguishing Marks:
Basic battle scars, with a chip off his horn that is clearly not a natural carving.

Preferred style of clothing:
Loose, flowy fabrics that show off skin, but are clearly finely made and expensive as fuck. He goes for colors that compliment his complexion, but is also found in basic laced tunics and trousers if he's meant to do some dirty work. His armor is similar to Aideen's.

Personality:
Brash, arrogant, ready to rumble. Absolutely bites and will use his teeth to his advantage if need be, so there's too many times where you'll find him with a bloody mouth that's not due to being punched in the face. If "fiery" were a word, it'd be him. He is caring, though, if not exactly gentle. He's more likely to look for a person to punish than subject himself to being a therapist. He and Aideen torment each other non-stop, constantly getting into bickering matches after she steals his shit or makes fun of him. Trouble-maker to the max, and plays pranks on nobles, his cousin, literally anyone he can mess with.

Background:
He's the first prince of his family's kingdom, with his cousin being the current king. Before power was shifted around, the kingdom was under the rule of a tyrant not related to them, and Caoimhe was forced to go on scouting missions to put his magic to good use and create ties between foreign powers and Draíochta Síoraí. He's still a soldier through-and-through, even if he's no longer forced to go on missions, and helps his cousin with running the kingdom smoothly.

Magic:
As a Mac Arthfael, he has reality-based powers. His individual ability is accessed through his mutated eyes. He can travel through any location that he’s in because he can see through the Middle (dw about it) and get instant coordinates and directions, like a magical map that pops up anytime he needs it.

Other: First language is Gaelic, and he's got a twisted accent that can either be fluid and lovely, or absolutely indecipherable if he gets worked up or talks really fast. English too. His weapon is a war scythe which is kinda a heavy weapon but he's a master of it.

Name:
Sláine Mac Arthfael (pronounced slaw-nya)

Gender:
Male, he/him, gay

Age:
82

Race:
High Witch

Dark red hair like deep sangria that spills down to his waist in loose curls. Tanned skin. Autumn prince through-and-through. His eyes are tawney at a distance, but up close you can see the family galaxy swirling within their depts, with red starbursts and whirls.
Raised golden freckles pepper his entire body and give off a tiny glow. Thick tusks replace his bottom canines and are large enough to do damage when needed but fit his mouth/teeth just right to look normal when his mouth is closed. He has carved horns that add another 13 inches to his height; they curl back just slightly and the offshoots curl outwards and back down towards his head (handlebars baby).

Likes dangly earrings and body chains.

Scars/Distinguishing Marks:
Basic battle scars, not as many as his brother.

Preferred style of clothing:
Loose, flowy fabrics that show off skin, but are clearly finely made and expensive as fuck. He goes for colors that compliment his complexion, but also enjoys bright colors. Favors belted robes, or sleeveless tunics with pants that dip down by the hips to show off skin. His armor is similar to Aideen's.

Personality:
Trouble-maker to the max, and plays pranks on nobles, his cousin, literally anyone he can mess with. Though he's just as obnoxious as his older brother, he's just a tiny more level-headed, with less of a fight-oriented mind and more of a calculating one. Shy-ish in the face of relationships that aren't surface-level, but still cocky at times and sure of himself. If you stick him and Caoimhe together, their personalities bounce of each other to the point they're indespherable.

Background:
He's the second prince of his family's kingdom, with his cousin being the current king. Before power was shifted around, the kingdom was under the rule of a tyrant not related to them, and Sláine was forced to go on scouting missions to put his magic to good use and create ties between foreign powers and Draíochta Síoraí. He's still a solider, but also a diplomat in some cases, even if he's no longer forced to go on missions, and helps his cousin with running the kingdom smoothly.

Magic:
As a Mac Arthfael, he has reality-based powers. His individual ability is accessed through his mutated eyes. He can understand every existing language after hearing it, because he can see the words as they’re spoken, and they automatically swap to translate into Gaelic. It takes a bit of conversation until he can be passable, and actual effort to be fluent.

Other: First language is Gaelic, and he's got a twisted accent that can either be fluid and lovely, or absolutely indecipherable if he gets worked up or talks really fast. English too, and many many other languages. His weapons are twin swords that are coated in a supply of flammable liquid, so if he strikes them against each other or other objects, a spark will set them aflame.

surprise, there's a twin! i figured i'd do them both because i'm tossing around the idea of having a tag-along, but i'll run that by you. if you have any questions, feel free to ask! i'm more than happy to talk about my children lmao

@ElderGod-Carrots

Ima be honest, I read all of Aideen's sheet and skimmed the other two lmao

ima super happy if you wanted to add the twin in (i mean lowkey… a romance between Eurion and Sláine… from what you've said about Aideen I feel like she'd go nuts if they had some slow burn but, ofc, your RP, and just an idea)

I think the only bit I'm interested in hearing more about would be the twin's powers and how they worked but that's more curiosity than for the sake of understanding the plot lol

@ElderGod-kirky group

i don't blame you for skimming lmao they're twins so it's almost all the same info. she would absolutely go nuts if those two had a slow-burn, and i love that idea

the Mac Arthfael family all have the same general powers, which is where they bend reality and can travel between worlds and such through portals. in some cases it could be considered time travel, but that's more them warping the current reality and letting them move about quickly in a concentrated area. With their family mutations, some have the ability to see into the Middle, which is basically a membrane realm that ties everything together and the heart of their powers. It's not total sight, though. With Caoimhe, he sees map-markers, directions, and is basically a walking GPS on command.
Sláine on the other hand is a little more difficult to explain. When people talk, he can tap into the Middle and be fed a visual translation of the words being spoken if it's a language he doesn't understand. Think of it as, like, funky little magic words popping up next to a person showing him the language, and beneath it a translation into his language so that he can communicate with the person. It works with words he wants to say, by projecting his intention into the Middle and again having those words pop up visually for him to read.

Does that make any sense at all? it's like 2am for me lmao

@ElderGod-Carrots

Like… secret looks, quiet conversations… trying to deny it… 0.0

and yes that makes sense! that's so cool though man thank you for clarifying! and dude go to bed oml

@ElderGod-kirky group

i'm just imagining Eurion's inner angst over finding one of the people he has to kill attractive and Sláine just waiting for the boot to drop

oh good, i wasn't sure if it would or not because it's only ever been something i'd picture and haven't had to describe it yet

@ElderGod-Carrots

yes yes yes that is exactly what im thinking too! imagine when he does admit it tho like… Sláine teasing him for waiting so long to say anything and Aideen and Caoimhe smirking at them both from the side

and no it does make sense you're all good ahha, i know how it feels when you have concepts you can see but can't explain

@ElderGod-kirky group

"You owe me a family heirloom" "shh" sdflkgh they'd be so smug
ugh, the typical inn "there's only one bed" trope. so much potential there. so much trope potential honestly

@ElderGod-kirky group

Eurion off to the side, brooding
Aideen: "awww, it's the little sunshine. isn't he so cute?"

i can see many instances of these two getting into pickles and saving each other with their individual skills, bonding over their backgrounds, reluctant compliments. and also aideen stealing stuff and conveniently leaving that part out as she gives Eurion gifts that totally aren't gifts shut up

@ElderGod-kirky group

oh speaking of, how do we want to start? I can have a starter up sometime in the… reasonable morning (for me) if we want to start with basic palace happenings, or do we want to start with Eurion?

@ElderGod-Carrots

i'm happy to start if we wanted to start with Eurion sneaking into the palace right before Aideen finds him? (it's also only 5 pm for me so i am not brain dead lol)
