The small town of Fairdale has been rocked with a murder. Lauren Greene, 16, disappeared after a party. Her body was found dead three days later, and while residents don’t know the cause of death, they know it was murder.

The local police force is doing their best, but, small and overwhelmed, has had to call in for assistance from the FBI. There are no main suspects, but there are a few persons of interest. The main person of interest? A young man named Steven Wilder, who, at least in the eyes of the town, is already convicted of the murder. With a rap sheet already and a probation officer he has to keep in touch with, along with a shaky alibi for that night and a father in prison for a similar crime, the whole town has turned against him. When the news gets out that the jacket found at Lauren’s body was his, well. That only turns the tide further against him. Innocent until proven guilty? Not for him.

(Name) is Lauren’s twin sibling, and is desperate to track down their sister’s murderer. The police are floundering, and even the FBI have hit dead ends. (Name) is sure that they can be the one to find a clue that was missed. The problem? Their only lead, their only clue, is the boy the rest of the town is already saying killed her. Steven. The rumors circling town, too, have not left their sister’s reputation better; they are saying she was cheating on her boyfriend, David, with Steven. That she was pregnant with Steven’s child, and so Steven killed her so no one would find out. Or that Steven tried to force himself on her, and when she resisted, he killed her. Or that they were hooking up and it went too far. Some are even saying that Lauren, known for being a little wild and fun-loving, may have somehow deserved to die. But (Name) approaches Steven, asks for his help. (Name) has doubts that Steven really did it; after all, Steven has always been cordial to them, and was a good friend of Lauren’s. They aren’t sure that Steven would have done it, even if some of the evidence seems to point towards it already.

So they ally with Steven, and the two begin their search for the truth of that night. The truth of what happened to Lauren. As they work, (Name) finds out more and more about Steven and what happened that night, things that the police may never find out. Along the way, too, (Name) and Steven begin to fall for each other, going from uneasy allies to friends to something more.

But can they catch the murderer?

Basically, small-town murder mystery where the victim’s twin teams up with the suspect, who may or may not be guilty of Lauren’s murder, and oops they fall in love while trying to find out the truth.

I will be Steven, you’ll be (Name), whose name, gender, and sexuality is up to you (only requirement is that they’re interested in guys, because, uh, Steven is a guy lmao). You can change the last name if you want to, I just used Greene as a placeholder. I would prefer (Name) and Lauren not be identical, since it would be rather awkward, considering the plot. So.

Name: Ayra Greene (EYE-RAH)

Nicknames: Ayr (pronounced EYE-rh)

Age: 16

Gender: Female She/Her

Sexuality: Bisexual

Looks: Ayra isn't very tall for her age. At only 5'5, she is taller than her friends but at best, is average height. She has silver hair that reaches just below her shoulder, bangs and is naturally wavy. She styles it up in either a messy bun or a ponytail with a headband/head scarf. She has dark green eye with a black ring around her iris and wears glasses to read. Ayra has pretty pale skin with light freckles around her nose and eyes, a dimple on her left cheek, and a nose piercing. She isn't overly thin, weighing about 125lbs and has a slight hourglass body shoe that could be argued to be a rectangle shape

Unique features/scars/piercings: Ayra has a healing tattoo of her sister's name in cursive on her shoulder, a tattoo of 3 birds in flight in her forearm, a nose piercing, ear piercings, and an eyebrow piercing, and a scar on her leg from when she fell off her bike as a kid

Clothing Style: Ayra would describe her style as a dark cottagecore. She loves wearing loose tops/blouses tucked into skirts or loose shorts paired with boots. She doesn't like dresses and moves around a lot doing activities so she wears clothes that she can move it. Ayra will wear jeans and tank tops but only if she's going out to places like the mall or the movies. Since her sister's death, she has been wearing a dark coloured top with a beige skirt, leggings, and boots. Ayra like jewelry, especially simple rings and bracelets. She always wears a leather bracelet that her sister gave her for their 15th birthday and a silver ring

Family: Lauren Greene, her mother, her father, and her cat

Other: Both she and Lauren were allergic to shrimp and Ayra hates peanuts/peanut butter

Uhhhh. Sort of? Steven did not murder Lauren, btw, but your character doesn't know that, tho she hasn't made up her mind about whether or not she did it. I'm thinking maybe Lauren's boyfriend, David, is involved in the murder somehow, whether he was the murderer or someone in his family was, but I'm not 100% sure yet

@ElderGod-Icefire

(alright makes sense!)
(Also before I post the starter, I have two ideas for how to start: 1. They're doing like a memorial thing for Lauren at the Greene's house and Steven shows up. David flips his lid and gets into a fight with Steven since he thinks Steve doesn't have a right to be there bc everyone thinks Steve killed her. Or 2. Ayra shows up at Steven's house in order to talk to him about her sister. Which would you prefer?)

@ElderGod-Icefire

(oh btw this starts in like,, late August)

It had been two weeks since Lauren's body was found, and while her body had not yet been released by the police for burial, her parents had decided to host a small memorial for those who had known her, opening up their home. David, her boyfriend, was of course there, looking mournful and melancholic. Other friends and aquaintences were there as well, most dressed in black to show their mourning for her.

The memorial had been going on for perhaps an hour when there was a knock at the door. David, ever helpful, opened it, then frowned when he saw who stood at the door, looking ill at ease and uncertain.

Steven Wilder had never had the best of reputations, here in Fairdale. It was pretty well known around school that if you wanted something illegal, Steve could get his hands on it for you. He didn't tend to have steady relationships, and a lot of the "good" kids would hook up with him of they wanted to "walk on the wild side" for a while, since he had a policy of not kissing and telling. He had a smart mouth and a dirty one, too, far more liberal with his swear words than most kids even dared to be, and there were always slightly less than savory rumors floating around about him. But with Lauren dead, those rumors had taken a turn for the worse. After all, it was his jacket that was found with her body, and so naturally, in the eyes of the public, he was already guilty. He was dressed in black, a dark t-shirt and a black jacket on top. His jeans were such a deep blue they were nearly black, but were torn at the knees and a little in the thighs. As always, he wore a pair of combat boots and some rings on his fingers. What wasn't familiar was the uncertainty in his gaze, that conflicted look of "I'm not sure I should be here".

"Leave." David hissed, grip going white knuckled on the door. "You aren't welcome here. Murderer."

Soft whispers started making their rounds at Steven's brazenness at showing up. How dare the murderer show his face at the victim's memorial?

Steven pressed his lips together. "I was her friend too, David. I'm just as welcome here as any of the rest of you." He challenged.

@StarkSpangledMayflower

It was the sudden silence and the change in the atmosphere that drew Ayra out if the kitchen and into the drawing room. She heard some of her sister friends whispering and went to go eavesdrop. It wasn't hard to figure out what they were talking about, every fifth word they spoke was the name 'Steven'. Ayra bit her lip, contemplating going to see Lauren's supposed murderer or telling her parents what was going on. Her curiosity got the better of her, why would the murderer come to the victims memorial?

It was a nice day and that was why Ayra decides to wear a black dress, but once she made her way into Steven's line if vision, she suddenly wished she was wearing something a little more casual. Looking at the boy infront of her, Ayra felt more confused than before. The whispers of those in the room weren't helping her at all, and seeing the interaction between David and Steven made Ayra think there was something a little strange going on.

Ayra bit her lip and moved forward. "Hello Steven." She said, speaking for the first time since the memorial started. "Thank you for coming." Whatever the rest of the town thought about him, Ayra knew that he was still a guest and friend of her sister's. She may have lost a lot of things, but she wasn't going to forget her manners.

@ElderGod-Icefire

David turned to look at her, still not releasing the door or moving out of Steven's way. David, at 5'11", was shorter than Steven by a few inches, and had neatly combed brown hair, and bright blue eyes. "What, you're just going to let him in?" He demanded, incredulous. "He…that's the bastard that…" He trailed off, frowning.

Steven crossed his arms, eyes flickering over Ayra for a moment, giving her the faintest of smiles when she greeted him. While he didn't know Ayra all that well, he had always been polite on the rare occasions he had actually been invited over. Lauren and Aura's parents didn't exactly like him, which was fair; most parents didn't. He was the bad example, not the kid you invited over. David was the good guy that got invited over. Steven stayed quiet, though, not wanting to put his foot in his mouth and say something wrong.

"You know what his father did." David added. "Like father like son, and all that. You can't just…just let him in here."

"I am not my father." Was the only thing Steven said, a dark look flashing in his eyes for a moment and his jaw tightened.

@StarkSpangledMayflower

"David enough. Like the rest of you, he is a guest and was a friend of Lauren's. As for what he did or what his father did, that isn't important right now." Ayra pushed David's shoulder and smiled at him with dull eyes. She could see David having an internal battle and could feel the anticipation dripping off the other guests in waves. She sighed and crossed her arms. "If you won't let him come inside, at least move so that I may go outside and talk with him." She said tiredly.

@ElderGod-Icefire

"It isn't important?" David demanded. "Ayra, he's the one that killed her, and you don't think that's important? It was his damn jacket that was found with her body!"

Steven narrowed his eyes, hands clenching for a moment, before he relaxed them again and stuffed them in his pockets, not wanting to get into a fight right now.

David looked between Steven and Ayra, then stepped out of Ayra's way. "I'm keeping an eye on you guys, though. I'd rather not have this bastard kill both of you."

Steven squared his shoulders, giving David a narrow eyed look that promised a fight later, if David continued to talk like this.

@StarkSpangledMayflower

Ayra rolled her eyes and walked out the door. "I didnt know you were there when she died." She muttered sarcastically. Ayra walked onto the porch and looked back at David. "Please stop, it's Lauren's memorial. I know she probably doesn't want a fight to break out here." Ayra glanced at Steven and gestured to the walkway. "Take a walk with me?" She asked, it waiting for his answer and walking away.

They walked for a few minutes in silence, with Ayra glancing at Steven from the corner of her eye every so often. The silence became unbearable after some time and Ayra finally turned to face him. "Why are you here? Even if you didn't kill my sister, you know how everyone feels about you." She looked at him with furrowed eyebrows and bit her lip, trying to understand this whole situation.

@ElderGod-Icefire

Steven was quite content with the silence, walking beside her with his hands in his pockets. At the question, he hesitated, running a hand through his dark hair. "I wasn't going to come." He finally said after a moment. "But my parole officer and my mom both said it would be best if I at least showed up. It makes me look guiltier if I didn't." He replied, shrugging his shoulder a little. "Besides, she was my friend, just like everyone else in there was her friend. It's just different because I'm from the wrong side of the tracks, and my jacket was with her body." He explained, shrugging his shoulders a little bit and looking at her with those golden brown eyes of his.

(Btw, what does her dress look like? Out of curiosity)

@StarkSpangledMayflower

(Like this but in a dark grey, almost black)

A bird call above the pair made Ayra look up and stare at the sky. "That is true. There weren't a lot of people who talked about you in a good way, but Lauren never said anything bad about you." She paused and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, meeting his eyes. "I'm trying really hard to not interrogate you, you know this right? She was my best friend and I want to know what happened to her. Everything points to you, and I was fine with blaming you, but then you show up here. That doesn't make sense." Ayra looked away and and clasped her hands together behind her back.

@ElderGod-Icefire

(I can't view the image)

Steven studied her for a moment, nodding a little. "I get that." He replied. "You're welcome to question me if you want, but…I don't have anyone to back up my alibi, and that's part of why everyone thinks it's me." He shrugged his shoulders, glancing up at the sky and then over at Ayra again. "My parole officer can kind of corroborate my alibi, but…only digitally. Not physically." He sighed softly.

@StarkSpangledMayflower

(How about this?)

"If you don't mind my asking, what do you mean digitally? And if you have some form of an alibi, why don't you tell everyone?" Ayra asked him, confused. If Steven wasn't the killer, then who murdered her sister?
